      I tested some pads last year vs my ol' leather straps...it's like 30% lighter or more depending on how old your leather goes. The material slides fast on the ice as well. Wasn't sure how I would like it on my first game. And it took like 3 games for me to see the benefits. But by the 6th or 7th game I played I was sold.

    I’m curious to know how you get your positioning consistent. I tend to use the posts to orient myself to start but as soon as I start moving I start to lose my spot and that’s when I tend to let bad goals in where I wasn’t covering part of the net.

      I know I’m not the same as a pro goalie but I play u14aaa and it just takes a bunch of reps to know where you are in the net but also I know some people that use land marks like the dots to know where the corner of the crease is and help find where they are in the net

      Playing 5 days a week to build that familiarity with your angles where you subconsciously understand how to orient yourself with the dots/boards/posts (everyone loves to have a goalie at open hockey) works great (until you go play a tournament on olympic ice or some weird smaller rink and you get scored on far side from the half boards lol)

    I’ve done quite a bit of metal work on aircraft and one of the most important things is filling and sanding the cut edges very smooth, #1 it allows you to bend without it breaking, I would think on carbon fiber hockey stick it should definitely help to keep the stick from cracking and the fibers from spreading …give that a try…👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

    Little hack for your defender to gain a second against forecheck (when he’s behind the net). Move as far forward in your crease when the forchecker (opponent) rushes your defender it will make him decide whether to go left or right one second earlier and allow your defender to take the right decision.

    Hack that I use for probably 2 or 3 years now is putting the snow u get in the crease around the post. It has bailed me out of many wraps and bad bounces with the puck. Example I went behind the net to play it and it took a weird ass bounce off the Zam door. Bounced in such a way it could've just been a tap in goal but the snow came in clutch and stopped it behind the post

    My leg pads DO fit in my bag, but wagering my gear all bagged up doesn't quite come in at >50lbs. If the leg pads are (plastic) bagged separate from your main bag, are they now _weight separately_ but still considered all _one piece_ of luggage for being sports equipment? If that's true, that's a handy hack, and I'm going to start bring my gear everywhere with me lol

    • @place_desjardins
      @place_desjardins Před 2 lety

      If the pad gets stuck in the rotated position after you get up, it's usually because the boot of the pad is stuck on top of the skate. If you have a boot strap that goes through the rear of the skate or through the bottom of the skate, you'll want to loosen that strap because that is clamping the boot to the skate in the butterfly position. Other option is to remove it. Now, the pad should rotate back easily. If it's too loose, don't tighten the boot strap, tighten the lowest calf strap.

    Yeah, will definitely try some of these out. Although one thing. What’s everyone’s problem with danglers and neck guards? I mean, if you pay attention to them all the time, you’ll notice them, but if you aren’t constantly focusing on them you will have no idea they’re even there. I feel like they’re definetely worth the extra protection. The only place where I would sacrifice a little bit of security is with the mask, with a cheater cage. Not a cat-eye, because those can be easily noticed and has much more likelihood of something getting through, but definitely a cheater cage.
