If you go to RC Groups and look under off road cars, there is a mod thread where a guy goes at it with 3D printed parts that greatly improves the buggy! Actually, the whole thing is shown in a series of videos that are on here too. They guy’s handle is Jim85IROC. Have a look.

@@RCinginSC After a year, have you seen wear problems with the gears you linked to in your original video? If I read their description, it says they are real metal but the color difference is a rust inhibitor, not a sign of heat treating that might make them tougher. To be honest about it, they still look like powdered metal.
@@kodak_jack the only gear problems I've had was the rear diff , mainly because I upgraded to 3s brushless. It wasn't desiged for that so the wear is to be expected.

If you are having issues flipping over, I made a DIY rear sway bar that really helped my stability. I made a running and overview video. Sweet setup though! Also if you wanted more space up front, change the front shocks to vertical mounted positions.

Haha, you're the first person to ask about that. You're very observant. All I'm doing is using them to keep the play out of the links. The links have just a tad bit of play in the ball joint and when you add them all up , it can create some steering wobble at high speed. The rubber bands simply help dampen that. If you mean the set screw for the pinion gear then the answer is ....I didn't get it out. I just replaced the original brushed motor with a new brushless motor and new pinion. The factory goes overboard on high strength loc-tite. It's usually impossible to remove them. Sorry I didn't have a better answer, but those are the facts. Thx fur watching. 😎👍
RCing in SC If I may, the grub screw at least is in the open, there are other diff and drive gear screws that are tiny 2MM flat head screws that are a nightmare to deal with because they had thread lock on them. The only way to get them out is by heating them with the tip of a fine tipped soldering iron. You have to act quickly to get a wrench on the screw as soon as you can after heating it. In the case of replacing the plastic gears that came with the buggies, many of us used electrical side cutters to cut away the gear and then try to get the screw out with fine needle nose or vice grips - terrible to deal with!
@@kodak_jack great tip. When I was an automotive mechanic, that's how we loosened exhaust bolts on manifolds. By heating them up. Same principle. Thanks again.

Fantastic modifications you've made to this car, it gives me some ideas! Just one thing I couldn't find anywhere in your playlist: these leds are 12v, do run them of 5v or do you use some kind of step-up?
@@RCinginSC Thank you, but it's not very clear to me ho you wire the leds with the rc switch. I thought it was receiver 3d channel --> rc switch --> leds and they whould get 5v from the receiver. Do you might have a link for these rc switches?
@@MrJoris666 I use the 3s balance lead to power all the aux components, fpv, lights horn, etc. I use RX controlled switches as mentioned in the video to switch power to the components. The lights use straight 12v from the 3s lipo.
I made it private because I later ran into issues even though it worked fine for a short while. I burned up two receivers and one flight controller and I never figured out what was doing it. I didn't want to be responsible for anyone else following what I did and have the same thing happen. However, if you still want to watch it, here's the link, czcams.com/video/BAQTCywxhwI/video.html I made it unlisted but , again, do it at your own risk. I can't prove it , but I think that using the esc bec was the issue. Probably too much noise on the input voltage.. If I were to try it again, I would use an isolated 5v power source for the rx and a filtered power source for the FC. Good luck.

The majority of parts I found on Amazon. But, remember, all the radio and fpv equipment was sourced from fpv vendors . This buggy is actually very fun bone stock. You can't go wrong.

@@Hrichs yes I have , and they are cool , but in my case, I almost exclusively drive mine fpv, and the modified shock tower would hinder my view. Otherwise I would do it too.

It depends on the voltage of the battery. Is it 2s, 3s, 4s or 6s ? I'm using a 3100kv motor running 3s and it's more than enough power and speed. My recommendation would be.. 2s 3000kv - 4000kv 3s 2500kv - 3500kv 4s 2000kv - 3000kv 6s 1000kv - 2000kv If you want more control then chose a motor at the low end of the recommended kv for that particular voltage. If you want more speed, then chose a motor at the higher end of the recommended kv for that particular voltage. Lastly, not all rc cars have the same final output ratio. So these recommendations apply only to the wltoys 12428. I hope that helps.

As far as video transmitters go, it honestly doesn't matter. If you have goggles or a fpv monitor that recieves 5.8ghz analog , , then you simply need a 5.8ghz transmitter . The camera you use is irrelevant. The video transmitter just needs an analog video input signal, and it doesn't care what camera it gets that signal from as long as it's analog , which the runcam split micro does output. I would recommend a video transmitter similar to this one. www.amazon.com/AKK-600mW-Mini-Transmitter-Race/dp/B01FRRV3HE It's cheap, powerful , and has an easy to read display for channel/band. @@kamiltel83 it makes no difference what vtx you connect to camera, as long as it's wired correctly. Be sure that both camera and vtx have common ground and are supplied with correct voltaged respectively. Then simply connect video out from camera to video in on vtx and it should work fine.

This not a upgrade its a rebuild and redesigned. Its no longer a WLToys 12428 or looks the same. Its just a homemade RC. A upgrade is something that looks the same but made with better parts.

I'm running 3s so it works out good for that. You may want to try to find some specifically for 5v.

What is the best motor to use the a 5200mah battery

This not a upgrade its a rebuild and redesigned. Its no longer a WLToys 12428 or looks the same. Its just a homemade RC. A upgrade is something that looks the same but made with better parts.

@@RCinginSC its not a opinion 90% mod and 10% original is not a upgrade or mod. it looks you gather bunch of old parts and threw them together. Put the original WLToys 12428 next to what you have there, it like night and day
