    I did this mod with goolrc brushless and flysky transmitter. I have throttle set to 60% it's perfect, not to fast that it will break and with oil filled rear shocks it turns without rolling over. I love this mod. Thanks for posting. Fyi this mod only works with servo in his link. Normal servo is too big.

    Really neat upgrade, super fast, however, Feiyue now make the FY-07 which is the same design, comes with a brushless system. Presumably this car will address the transmission problems mentioned in the comments below. Great video.

  • @AszBall
    @AszBall Před 5 lety +4

    If anyone watching this vid is planning on upgrading their 12428 do NOT get the 2838 like this guy get the 3650 (I got racerstar but I’m sure any of the Brands off AliExpress are all the same goolrc, surpass, blmotor, ocday, etc.). I got both of the motors and the 2838 is much smaller than the original 540 motor and it gets hot when running in this car as well as the esc it comes with in the combo. The 2838 motor is also severely underpowered on the low end and will cog like crazy and won’t run right on slow start ups or when trying to crawl over stuff (ends up just sitting there cogging). The 3650 has none of those problems and is exactly the same size as the original 540 motor so it drops right in and the holes to the motor line up exactly with the motor mount holes without having to make custom holes like you have to on the 2838. Both motors have more top end power than this truck can handle well running on 3s but the 2838 has absolutely zero low end power so I highly suggest avoiding it and going with the 3650 combo that comes with the ESC.

    • @JacquesButcher
      @JacquesButcher Před 5 lety

      I wish I read your comment before buying the motor. I have very bad cogging problems now :-(
      Do you mind posting link to the motor you are suggesting? I found them but there seems to be a few KV ratings on them. Does the KV rating matter? I was going to buy the 5900 KV one from here www.banggood.com/Racerstar-3650-Motor-Brushless-Waterproof-Sensorless-110-RC-Car-Part-5900430039002300KV-p-1110570.html?rmmds=search&ID=518007&cur_warehouse=CN

    • @MrMikebeben
      @MrMikebeben Před 5 lety +1

      You’re going to get cogging with a sensorless motor. Sensored brushless is much better and get a program card to program your esc. Also buy components separate it’s much better than cheap kits. Also brushed is muchhh better for crawling because of slow speed control. Just my two cents and many years of rc fun

    • @AszBall
      @AszBall Před 5 lety +1

      MrMikebeben - kinda missing the point bro, I was just warning people that the 2838 size motor in this video is underpowered on the low end to the point where you won’t get it running in thick grass, trying to start uphill, or if you’re up against an obstacle because the cogging is so bad. The 3650 on the other hand doesn’t have that problem. Yea it’ll cog a liiitle on the low low end but it doesn’t have problems getting going like the 2838. Also the holes will line up with the mount, and it won’t over heat in the 12428 which the 2838 size motor has all those issues and bad. And yes of course sensored is better but that comes with a higher price tag and possible issues on installation. Most sensored motors run CCW and sensored is non reversible unless the esc has a reverse rotation setting (which mostly higher cost ESCs are gonna be the ones with that setting) and the 12428 needs a CW running motor. I’ve overcome that issue with my sensored motor/esc by cutting out a plastic anti reverse tab in the diff housing and flipping the diffs in the housings which essentially reversed the direction the motor needs to spin to make the car run in the forward direction. That being said I understand the concept of brushless vs brushed and sensorless vs sensored, but the point I was trying to get across is that most people are just tryin to go faster without spending too much and the absolute best way to do that is a cheap ass Chinese 3650 motor/esc combo and that the 2838 in this video is junk. The focus being on budget otherwise I coulda have also commented yea just get a $300 sensored setup it’ll run better. I mean duh but who is lookin to spend that much on a $70 car? Everything you said is correct just not sure it was 100% relevant to what I was trying to say or to the point of this video either(which is super cheap brushless power).

      If you look at the test with the upgrades the circumference of the tyre increases at higher rpm's (due to centrifugal forces). The speed at 4970 rpm is probably significantly more than 90km/h.

    i had a 3600kv brushless motor lying around, decided to install it in this rc(wltoys 12428), i had no issues with the stock brushed motor as it was fast enough.As soon as i installed the brushless motor, after a few runs my shaft broke,replaced that,then my front diff slipped,replaced that,the buggy seemed to be fast but had lagging problems so it was definitely not for rock crawling as it would jump to 10kmph directly as u can see in the video 7:44. i only used 2s lipos for the brushless and it would break my buggy. 3s lipo is just mad for this. The rc car is back to stock and is running pretty great on 2s lipo, and its way more fun then a brushless bec it doesnt lag at all and also the rc car can be driven in rocks with no fear of anything breaking. If u want a brushless so badly then buy another platform as it will save u alot of money as ive already spend more then 120$ just on spars :)

    I snapped my rear drive shaft so waiting for new one. I upgraded to oil shocks which are great for road driving but dont spring back quick enough offroad. The stock springs suck on and offroad. too bouncy or too soft. Oil shocks stopped the torque lifting the front. Metal parts are okay but i find they dont have locking nuts to prevent them undoing them selves eg. fun car for the price.
