    Thank you for this video! I spent hours looking for a good servo for my 12428, bought one servo of other size and used it with 3d printed bracket until it died 2 weeks later, then used original servo with soldered controller from that dead servo.
    After finding your video I've purchased JX PDI-2506MG and I am very satisfied. Perfect fit, budget friendly and very decent.

    I'm using the SURPASS S0025M, it's also a direct fit without any modifications and sofar does a very nice job. The big pro for me was, that it was directly available from amazon for a good price

    There's an official upgrade metal geared servo from wltoys , don't use it, it's not much better than the stock one.
    Btw: You can easily use the 3wire servos on the OG wltoys esc. Just remove the pcb from the 3wire servo. The 5 signals that go to the wltoys "brainbox" consist of 2 for motor and 3 for the potentiometer. Not really proprietary (connector is a JST 1mm or 1.25mm pin pitch and available at mouser, digikey and the like) but for cost savings sake I guess.
    Thanks for the video.

    Thanks for the video very interesting. How fast the JX servo PDI-2506MG is in comparison to the original one ?

    • @AszBall
      @AszBall  Před 3 lety

      I mean the original seems much faster with no load but when it doesn’t have the power to get the full throw to use the full turn radius, then that speed is pointless. The JX servo is so much more powerful that when the servo is loaded down with all the links, joints, steering components, wheels, tires, ground friction, etc it still functions great and will give the full throw of the servo. So essentially under no load the stock servo is noticeably faster but that speed does not translate to usable speed when in use.

    Hi. Did You made weight check how all metal upgrades increased weight of car? does it effect it's performance? Btw I very like these all your movies :-) in many cases I found answers to my questions what I had and wasn't forced to check by myself:-)

    • @AszBall
      @AszBall  Před 4 lety

      klaszczbass - Weighs 4.3lbs or just under 2Kg right now without a battery and yes I can feel a noticeable weight difference since I’ve added all the upgrades. Feel like it handles not too different but you can definitely tell it weighs more while it runs, feels a little less bouncy but that also has to do with oil filled shocks on all four corners.

  • @joshuamei7465
    @joshuamei7465 Před 4 lety

    Nice video! Subbed. Why do you use a 17t pinion? wouldn't that decrease the top speed? Also, do you know if the servo in this video and shock tower you used on the front for the standing shocks would fit on the fy03? thank you

    • @AszBall
      @AszBall  Před 4 lety +1

      Joshua Mei - This car came originally with a 17t pinion I just upgraded to an Axial 17t pinion because I kept destroying the “upgraded” metal ones from China and the axial one seemed to hold up better, the 12428 doesn’t have an adjustable motor mount so pretty much stuck with a 17t pinion unless I want to make a customized adjustable motor mount which seems unnecessary seeing as I’m happy with the low end and top end speed of my setup. No idea if this shock tower mod would fit on the fy03 never owned one, know they are built similar but dunno if it’s similar enough to create the same shock tower using the same a959 shock tower. As for the servo the FY-03 I believe uses a slightly smaller servo than the 12428 but I know they make a 3 wire servo for the feyue FY-03 and that is the FY-S3 servo. Pretty sure it will be a direct fit but I can’t say for sure, and dunno if it’s got any more power than the stock fy-03 servo but it will at least allow you to convert to 3 wire to upgrade the other electronics. That servo goes for like $8 on AliExpress and the shock towers go for pretty cheap too so you could always just order a set and test fit it, even if it doesn’t fit you’d only be out like $5 I think, if I’m remembering correctly.

      If it wanted my car to go as fast as possible but still be “safe” what would be best upgrade pinion

    • @AszBall
      @AszBall  Před 4 lety +2

      Madness Destroyer - well the motor mount has no adjustability so you can only run a 17t pinion unless you modify the motor mount to be adjustable. Even then the motor KV rating and battery you use will play a part in how much speed you get. My 3200KV on 3s with the 17t pinion goes faster than I need so ideally I’d like to drop to a 15t but I don’t feel like modifying my motor mount so I deal with being a little overpowered. I could probably just drop to 2s as well.

    • @madnessdestroyer4093
      @madnessdestroyer4093 Před 4 lety

      K Yammo what about the center gear the 62t pinion is that upgradable

    • @AszBall
      @AszBall  Před 4 lety +2

      Madness Destroyer - Yea you can find metal upgrades but I don’t know if they do different sizes. If you can find a different size then you should be able to change the gearing just need to find the right spur and pinion sizes that work together and end up with the right gear mesh with the stock motor positioning. But at that point I think it would be easier to just slot out the holes on the motor mount and make the motor positioning adjustable so you can run different size pinion gears and move the motor to get the right mesh. I’d order a separate motor mount just in case that doesn’t hold the motor well enough though so if it’s moving around too much and don’t keep the right mesh you can just go back to stock with the 17t.

    • @AszBall

    • @jdsick1
      @jdsick1 Před 3 lety +2

      No , actually you can open the servo and switch the control boards with the wiring , making the new 3 wire servo a 5 wire.

    Are there multiple revisions of the 12428? My servo is mounted 90degree rotated to yours (servo horn along the steering axis instead of yours that is along the forward/backward axis ) and the servo saver mechanism is completely different

    • @AszBall
      @AszBall  Před 3 lety

      Kinda got a Frankenstein 12428. A lot of the steering components have been customized and even found a way to attach the bellcrank steering off of a 1:10 scale Axial Yeti to it, but yea I rotated the servo myself so that my custom steering would fit right. Got more videos on this car including a video on my custom steering setup. Links should be in the description to all my 12428 videos.

      Do you have the Feyue fy03 or something like that? I know that car looks similar to the 12428 but I know it has different internals and a slightly smaller servo. On my WL Toys 12428 it was a direct fit to the stock servo bracket with no modification needed.

  • @p0gr
    @p0gr Před 3 lety

    did you measure what actually happens on the 5pins vs the 3? maybe you can just disconnect 2 and run it on 3?

    • @AszBall
      @AszBall  Před 3 lety

      I mean the connectors are completely different and I don’t see why they would make 5 wires if it would run on 3, I figure the proprietary design requires all wires for the servo to run. Either way the JX servo is not too expensive and a vast improvement over the underpowered stock servo so if you are replacing the esc and receiver anyways might as well include an upgraded servo while you’re at it.
