I want to give credit to this show’s writing and the actors for making us care about these characters more in 5 episodes than I’ve cared for some characters on some shows after 6 seasons. So impressive.
This episode recontextualizes the earlier one when Luke asked her to take the grief of Sam's "suicide" away...at the time it seemed correct of her to refuse. But seeing as she planted the notion of Sam killing himself in the first place, that scene is way more evil on a rewatch.
The actress who plays Cate (Maddie Phillips) was also awesome in Netflix's "Teenage Bounty Hunters" which was way better than it had any right to be. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for a fun ten-episode binge, if you enjoyed Veronica Mars (unrelated but best comparison I can make).
I was just scrolling through the comments like I do, and as you said "grab them by the blood", what is the exact moment I read the comment. Like I read it in sync with you saying it. That's never happened before it's weird
@@redrick8900 So, putting Marie to sleep and her waking up to him naked standing over her wasn't "anything wrong". That was wrong, 100% wrong. Even if he didn't get a chance to assault her, he was at least exposed to her without her consent. He essentially roofied her and anyone can see he was about to take it further.
@@Skyhighatrist Who knows if he did that. If he did that is wrong but there's no explanation. Kate could have erased her memory. I don't trust Jordan either.
@@redrick8900There literally is an explanation lol. The explanation is that he is a rapist and he was about to rape her. The dude literally had her passed out in his room.
I suspected Cate at the end of last episode but I thought they asked her to block their memories so they could hide Sam or something. I still suspected even after they mentioned Rufus because he was just too convenient.
Realistically Cate IS keeping them safe by wiping them. Otherwise they also end up in the woods, or the adult holding facility, or dead. Vaught doesn’t care about 4 teenagers that much. None of them are important enough that they can’t be made to disappear.
I'm liking Gen V more than the boys... rather congratulations on the 100k subscribers, that's why I propose that you make a special video with the best reactions from the channel... My favorite is probably in episode 3. When Cate tapped the chair for Marie to sit down. The way the camera focused on Cate tapping the chair tipped me off. Then in episode 4, Rufus taps the bench for Marie to sit down (and again the camera focuses on him tapping the bench) and we see him use his powers against her. By the end of episode 4 I knew Cate was involved but didn’t know the extent until this episode.
@@BrightStick14 Pretty sure that was a genuine moment for Cate though and I'm not sure what you're implying in regards to that scene. Marie just shared her trauma stemming from her powers, which Cate was able to relate to.
@@Dark__Thoughts it’s the way Cate tapping the chair was filmed, not what happens between the characters in the scene. The same tapping motion is shown again by Rufus in the next episode. The camera zooms in and focused specifically on their hands tapping a chair/bench. From the way the both scenes are shot, I figured Cate was involved with all the shady shit somehow. I hope that makes sense!
@@BrightStick14 Dunno. That seems incredibly far fetched to me. I think they just highlighted it so that the viewer can see it since the original camera angle didn't had that area in the shot.
@@Dark__Thoughts sorry, I was a film major so everything I watch is picked apart piece by piece. I usually figure out the plot twist way before the reveal happens lol.
Interestingly, Marie not trusting Shetty despite having her memories wiped tracks with real-world science. There was a man named Henry Molaison (a.k.a. "H.M.") who as a young man was afflicted with anterograde amnesia (unable to form new memories, like in the movie Memento). He spent most of his life working with memory researchers. Henry couldn't form new episodic memories, and had to be introduced over and over to researchers that he'd been working with for years. One of the experiments was that they had one researcher introduce himself to Henry using one of those joy buzzers that shock the person shaking hands with someone wearing one. They did this over and over, and eventually, despite having no memories of these rude introductions, Henry developed a distrust of this practical joker.

Someone pointed out after watching the puppet scene that Sam's powers could be more psychic based then just pure strength and durability-- he sees them as puppets which is why he can break and tear them so easily and the bullets he sees as popcorn hence they bounce off him
Cate making Shetty forget would do absolutely nothing. We've had 3 seasons of the The Boys to figure out that just saying "I don't want to" isn't going to do anything...lol
You do know what was going on in THAT scene and what the "goo" was.... You just dont want to, like most of us when we saw it first time. Also the hole in her back was apparently a blowhole (like a whale) which is a horrific mental image

But sometime between this episode and the next, well, we all realized we had the the wrong telepath with Cate. And also that the Boys universe did something before the MCU could.
Realistically, Cate would be monitored very carefully. I doubt she'd be allowed to be in a room with only one authority figure, they'd probably want a chaperone. TekKnight (shithead though he may be) threatened to maim her immediately if he saw her take the glove off, Vought knows how dangerous she could be even to top-level supes.
I keep thinking this university needs a counselor or something, but then I remembered how awful the adults in this show are and realized they would only make it worse
*SPOILERY* considering how much the show builds up Sam so that everyone empathizes with him and ships him with Emma, they kinda did him dirty by the end.
We don't really see him personally after the big confrontation (if i remember right, been a while), so there might be wiggle room for more of an explanation than Cate removing his emotions, but I agree with him being done dirty
He's done it to multiple women on the campus. That's why Jordan ran over at full speed when she heard Marie was with Rufus. She knew damn well that Rufus would be pulling that rapey shit.
