  • We visit Kirkby Lonsdale and the famous Devil's Bridge to enjoy a family walk by the river Lune. Our riverside walk includes views of Devil's Bridge itself, a 14th century bridge which is a testament to its builders. We walk up Radical Steps with its 11 landings and take in what we can of Ruskin's View despite it being closed off to the public due to subsidence. Ruskin's view was the inspiration for an 1822 painting by JMW Turner which sold for over £200,000.
Next we take a walk through the market town of Kirkby Lonsdale exploring its many 17th and 18th century buildings which now host shops and pubs along with cafes and more.
We enjoy some Local Ice Cream from the Cow to Cone Milking Parlour Ice Cream Parlour.
Kirkby Lonsdale is a small market town located between the Yorkshire Dales National Park and The Lake District. While it is technically part of Cumbria Kirkby Lonsdale is also on the edge of Lancashire and North Yorkshire making it a great base to explore the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland.
Free parking and the picnic area at Kirkby Lonsdale make it great place to go for a free or cheap family day out. You do have to pay to us the public toilets though.
