You're listening to the birth of Southern Rock, not that the Allman Brothers fit into any one category. Blues, country, rock and jazz were all incorporated into one of the very best jam bands of all time.
I 2nd that emotion.
Amen. Fitting description. IMHO the greatest fusion, jam band of all time. There 1971 phenomenal, Live At Fillmore East, double LP, I think proves this.
Exactly Nancy
They actually didn’t like to be categorized as southern rock. They were from the south, but they referred to themselves as a rock, blues, jazz fusion jam band.
That's what we called Allman Joy back in the day.
I might be old, but I lived through the best generation of music! 😁
Why are you boomers like this? 😂😂😂
@@healing344 Like what? Trying to gas-light a boomer? Silly, silly girl. 🤣
@@willowvons oh wow a boomer being sexist. Go to sleep boomer it’s past your bedtime
@@willowvons it’s past your bedtime boomer. Take your heart meds and go to bed.
@@healing344 Actually many, though maybe not a majority, boomers could explain to you the unfair problems generations face, when it comes to making music. Clue: It has to do with copyright.
"Live at the Filmore East" is without doubt THE greatest Allman Bro's record and a must hear on anyone's playlist.
The long live version will break your chair.
Agreed, the live version is even better
No argument here!
Well Said. In my humble opinion, the almost 24 minute, Live at Fillmore East 1971 version, that I believe you must be referring to, is there best. I also believe that is the Holy Grail, and or Pinnacle, of a progressive blues/rock jam. It just doesn't get any better, at least to my ears.
He was 19 when he sang this!😳
Allman Brothers are essential to the SOUL ! (CAN I GET AN AMEN ?)❤❤❤
Amen!!!❤️🤗🐝
@@deborahdanhauer8525 THANK YOU 😊
“Not my cross to bear” rocks too.
Smiling! Raised on southern rock and the blues, I’ve enjoyed this music for over 50 years. You’ve opened a door of enlightenment. Keep walking through and enjoy. Suggestions: The entire Live at Fillmore East will have your hairs standing up from the first note to the last. You must not leave this world without experiencing it at least once; some others include It’s Not My Cross To Bear; Don’t Want You No More; BB King Medley; and the more commercial end of the band… Rambling Man, Midnight Rider, Melissa, Blue Sky and In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. Read the story of Duane and Gregg Allman. Both self taught musicians. It’s unbelievable that Duane started playing guitar at 14 and died at 24. Only 10 years of experience and he is considered one of the greatest guitarists in history. He also played guitar for many artists you may already know and don’t realize. Try Aretha Franklin’s “The Weight”. I could go on and on…lol. Can you tell I’m a fan?
Macon Georgia band playing in 5/4 time. Blues and rocking. These boys had it from the beginning. This version is the GOAT. THANK YOU, MMB.
I always wait for it after “feels like I’m dying” in that descending arpeggio that starts the little instrumental between verses. Catches the ear so hard.
They recorded a lot in Macon and had places there but that's not where they're from. They formed in Jacksonville Florida.
Intro is 11/8 or 11/4 - count it out 12312312312 - it's 11 then go to 6/8 or 12/8
Gregg Allman is the singer here, and he was 22 years old when they recorded this in 1969. My favorite band for 50+ years.
We absolutely wore out our copy of Live at Filmore East. Lots of blues, but also some southern rock verging on country courtesy of Dicky Betts. They were fantastic and one of my greatest regrets in life is I never got to see them live (although I did see Greg).
Greg and Duane Allman had such a great impact on rock music. Duane is the main guitar on Layla. His death was such a major blow. Unfortunately, both are gone now and we just lost Dicky.
Welcome to the greatest rabbit hole in rock music imo. Statesboro Blues and Stormy Monday is some of the best blues/ rock recordings I’ve heard… and I’ve heard a lot. Dive deep 🔥
Also "Ain't But One way Out".
add soulshine to that! ❤️
Jessica, Revival, Midnight Rider, Melissa, Ramblin Man…..
All SOUTHERN ROCK is the blues. CCR is the blues. ALL ROCK, COUNTRY, RnB, and hip hop, are all BLUES!!!!!! This band invented SOUTHERN ROCK.
And jazz don’t forget jazz. Blues and jazz are the only two purely American forms of music. Rock, R&B, hip hop all sprung from that well.
The Allman brothers didn’t considered themselves a southern rock band. They described themselves as a rock, blues jazz fusion jam band.
They were a Southern band that played blues.
But, , , CCR was from, , , California! 🤨
CCR is fascinating in how they sounded southern yet were from the West Coast. Intriguing band.
Third cost rap isn’t bluesy as a rule. It’s way too braggadocios.
Greatest band ever and i live in Ireland.
Great reaction. You can't go wrong with the Allman Brothers band. They're a national treasure.
Allman Brothers had two drummers!
And was intergraded in the South before it became vogue!
@@MrT5mustang Yes and jai johanny johanson is the only member left.
"This right here."
I feel you, buddy. We've all been there, but not all of us can express it.
I miss the days of great music everywhere.
The Allman Brothers were blues, southern rock, country, jazz, and world music, but always amazing.
Gregg Allman's soulful vocals are 🔥
This is one of the greatest albums ever.live
Absolutely.
Can't go wrong with The Allman Brothers!
When you said "Lawd Have Mercy," I felt that down in my soul!!!!!
This is my favorite Allman song too! It just doesn't get any badder than this!!
This is the song I recommend for first time ABB listeners. Check out *Blue Sky* or *It's Not My Cross to Bear* next.
Next- live from the Fillmore- One Way Out. You gotta see 21 year old Gregg Allman singing like an old blues shouter. He wrote Whipping Post.
Yeah, man!! I loved your reaction to this classic. I saw this lineup of the band over 20 times and they were phenomenal every time. The first time was in 1969 in Florida. We heard 'Whipping Post' on the radio in New York and we drove to Florida to see them live. We were knocked out!!
This is definitely my favorite Allman Brothers song. I highly recommend their first album and Idlewilde South! 🏄♂️
At 69 I've heard this song what seems like a million times. Not once have I ever been less than pumped up through the whole song. True greatness.
You got it man. That’s the reaction!
All right, we're back to the classics. You're going to love this group. They're amazing
These guys invented a genre. It doesn't get any more legendary than that.
Really enjoyed your reaction to this great song. IMHO The Allman Brothers are the greatest blues rock band. Gregg Allman is the greatest blues rock singer. And his brother Duane is one of the greatest guitar players (best slide guitar player). The original band had a second top tier guitar player in Dickey Betts who recently passed. If you have not, I highly recommend you react to Black Hearted Woman (studio version) and One Way Out from their Fillmore East album. I think you will enjoy them.
The Allman Brothers were born in Nashville and their mother moved them to Daytona Beach in 1958, they were playing here in Pensacola when Greg wrote Sweet Melissa from an encounter in a supermarket
Great music.. My generation, when people didn't brag in songs about their cars, hos and $. They sang about themselves and the wrong. A pride free song is the best
'Dreams' was an excellent song by this band, so relatable
One of the best bands ever. It’s quite the rabbit hole! We want MORE!!!!
I heard this song @ 12 yrs old in 1969, You did not hear this song on AM radio . The song was so powerful because Gregg's vocals came from the heart. You recognizing that incredible crescendo is the climax of the song for me. I'm 66 now and I never ever get tired of hearing this song.
I loved this band. You should check out this from Live at Fillmore East. It's one of the best live performances ever
MMB, just want to say how much we appreciate you. A lot of reactors make a big polished production of what they do, and some ham it up for effect, and many are enjoyable. But you keep it real, and it's obvious that you're authentic and bona fide, so keep on keepin on!
Please look at the live version. It's amazing. Kind of disappointed that you didn't get a chance to see that with us, but I hope you watch it on your own..
I take it back. I'm really glad you got to listen to the original recording first. You'll really enjoy the live one too, but this is just classic. You had to hear it first
The Brothers have a Lot of The Ones! The A Brothers, Molly Hatchet, Lynard Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, Wet Willie, Kansas, CDB, I could go on. What a Great Era and a Great time for Music!
In their early days they considered themselves as mainly a blues band that played some rock and jazz. The term "Southern Rock" didn't even come into existence until months after Duane died.
You are exactly right. They didn’t like being put into the southern rock category. They described themselves as a rock, blues, jazz fusion jam band
America has created some amazing artists, each with their own unique sound. Rock on dude. ❤
The true essence of this band comes out in their Live at the Fillmore recordings. Only so much can be squeezed into a slab of vinyl. Their live performances are truly mesmerizing and lightning in a bottle.
This is just so perfect on every level. A true work of art
This is southern rock straight from the original source! It is a mix of rock, blues, soul and gospel presented by musicians of unparalleled skill and emotion. Welcome to the ABB!
Check out the extended version on Live At The Fillmore.
Greatest vocalist Greg Allman playing the piano too. These guys were in their 20s!
When this song hit the radio waves my buddy came to my house and was all excited about this song. When I heard it I was blown away. Midnight rider is another one. Buddy Miles killed this rendition!
I happened to find myself in Atlanta, as a street kid the year "People Can You Feel It"was playing everywhere. The vibe in that city at that time is something that you can't describe, Atlanta was a happening place then, kind of like San Francisco South, and you heard the Allman Brothers music everywhere.
Legendary stuff right there. One of the best bands of all time. Thank you so much!
It's hard for me to imagine any vocal performance that could be more passionate, more soulful, more sincere than Greg's on this song. I like your rating of #1 and #1A with Roundabout and Whipping Post. And that comparison is a good representation of how great music was in the early 70s. Keep going!!!
Absolutely gets a man's attention. Yes? 😎. Southern Rock!!!!
I miss those boys. Dickie Betts (lead guitar) just passed and Gregg Alman passed some time ago. One of the greatest southern rock bands of all time.
THE original Southern Rock band. Women make us men feel this way sometimes. But God love em❤
You should definitely listen to the Allman Brothers Band's song Soulshine.
Check out The Allman Brothers - Melissa!!
Check out Evening with the Allman Brothers version of Blue Sky. Or just the whole album.
As mentioned they had 2 drummers, Jamoie and Butch Trucks, 2 lead guitars Duane Allman and Dickie Betts, Gregg Allman on the Hammond B3, and Berry Oakley on a Fender Tractor Bass
Yes, the earliest whipping post known in history was utilized in Egypt. It was carved into stone, in the form of Hieroglyphs.
Most countries stopped using the barbaric practice, however in a few countries such as China, the practice is still currently used, with canes, it is referred to as caning.
The Allman Brother's Band, and the Doobie Brothers Band were often seen on tour together.
I was stationed with the Army in 1974 in Colorado. I was lucky enough to see these guys at mile high stadium that summer.
You have to watch this live, Fillmore East. Some music just has to be experienced live.
You have to watch the live version. This was written by Gregg Allman. He sings and plays keyboards.
I got to see them in '69 or '70 in Sarasota Municipal Auditorium. The old Quansit hut.
I never had heard of them but I was already a concert rat at 14.
I realized this was going to be the best band ever.
You want Southern Rock/Blues? Try “Don’t want you no more”/“It’s Not My Cross to Bare” by these guys. As “blues” as it gets!
When I was growing up….both this AND Roundabout were on the radio
Long live southern rock. We hope you enjoyed today’s service! You just went to church 👏🏻🙌🏼🥳🎊
So many years later, and this is still on my playlist 🔥
My favorite band 2 guitars a bass ,keyboards TWO drummers
You would love Stormy Monday by them.
Yes , that was , The Allman Brothers ! Now you know !
Very heavily blues influenced pure southern rock! Allman Brothers Band is my favorite Southern rock band of all time! Check out anything they’ve ever done and it’s amazing. They always played with two lead guitarists and two full drum kits. And Gregg
on keys with that amazing voice! ♥️
RIP Duane Berry Butch Gregg Dickey 💔🪽 What an angel band!! Jaimoe’s still with us. May God bless and keep him!
CZcams reviewers need to learn that when doing old groups like this always do the LIVE versions. Live lets you know what a group is really about and their abilities.
One of my all time favorite songs. They make us feel the pain of his suffering relationship! Wait till you react to Perpetual Change by YES!
This is the song that runs through my head, most often, at work. I'm a middle school teacher.
This is one of the best and most genuine reactions I have ever seen!!
YEAH it IS! 😎💯
I hear you’ve been living under a rock. Congrats for coming out to some of the best music ever, set back and enjoy.
Yasssss!! My favorite band ever, now you see why. 🤘🤘✌️
Allman Brothers🔥-Midnight Rider -Ramblin' Man -Can't Take It with You -Melissa -Blue Sky -Thank You!
Pure joy watching your reaction, my man. Pure joy.
Our generation got to experience the birth of rock forward...😀
Yeah, this is an outstanding song and this band was absolutely amazing. Unfortunately most of the members have passed on. I really love this song and I love this southern blues rock band. Greg and Duane Allman were brothers who founded this band.
Welcome to the Allman Brothers Young man. We will miss Greg for along time.
Their live double album was my introduction to the Allman Brothers band. I have been hooked ever since.
You absolutely, absolutely, need to listen to Alman Brother's song "Jessica." Entirely instrumental. Duane Alman and Dickie Betts. This isn't dueling banjos. This is two guitars playing back/forth in response to, and harmony with, one another. Best double-lead guitar song every done in rock. Entirely epic and there is no comparable song in rock music. You must audition it. Begging you.
As soon as I saw the thumbnail you were reacting to this song I already knew this was the 1
This is one of my top 10 favorite songs ever.
Best Jam Band in the whole damn land! ❤️🍄🎶
The Allman Brothers Band had a number of hit songs. In the 1980s, Gregg Allman had a modest hit song/music video for his song, “I’m No Angel”. After you have reacted to some more Allman Brothers Band songs, you will want to check this one out.
No flash in the pan here. These guys were one of the very top acts in the world for a long long time.
Gives me goosebumps every time he gets to "Tied to the Whipping post."
Music transcends all barriers. Bro, you have me laughing tears in my eyes.I This is a great song.
great reaction bro. one of the all the time killers.
The whole 71 album is FIRE!!!
Duane & Gregg certainly gave them the strong blues rock feel. Dickey, not so much, but he still had great soul. This one makes my list of top 100 songs of all time.
When the AB''s were still just a local band, our guitar players brother played Bass guitar for them.
You are the first reactor i have seen that understood the “ba ba BAM ba ba Bam” represented the whip.
The lead singer, Gregg Allman, is also the keyboard player. He is amazing at both.
And, they were even better live.
Midnight Rider is 🔥 too!!
Was lucky enough to have seen them in concert in Saint Louis (Kiel Auditorium) in the early Seventies. Epic...
There's a pre civil war whipping post in downtown Augusta Ga Just down the street was a nite club called the Whipping Post Allman bros would jam there and that's where Gregg Allman got the idea from MAN, I LOVED THAT PLACE
