- This is a fun packing puzzle, the Chess Royal is a pretty difficult puzzle even though it only had 8 pieces.

I have an even harder chessboard assembly puzzle. 12 unique pentominoes + 2*2 square. Only one solution.
Finally, a puzzle you could actually solve theough deduction and trial and error.
Honestly that's exactly the reason I lost all interest.
Not exactly true, by knowing the exact orientation of a board you can understand where something goes as soon as you have only a few pieces in

Not only do you have to worry about strategy planning and tactics anymore, but now you have to wreck your brain assembling the board itself.

Does this puzzle have more than one solution? I have a similar puzzle called "Caesar's Calendar" that has a different solution for every single day of the year!
i would say it has 2 solutions, as a chessboard is symetrical. So you could rotate the solution by 180°.
You also could rotate the solution by 90°, but then you end up with wrong colored squares. (the bottom right corner has to be black on a chess board)

No, e1 is a dark square, and e8 is a light square. The board should be oriented with the near-right corner square being a light square.

This is incorrect. From Article 2.1 of the FIDE Laws of Chess:
"The chessboard is placed between the players in such a way that the near corner square to the right of the player is white."
Thus, both a8 and h1 are light squares. a1 and h8 are dark squares.
I'm relieved, that you put the right colors onto the squares. Explanation, the bottom right corner has to be black. But an easy rule for many countries: The white queen has to be on a white square. Also the queen has to be on the d-file. (In many language the name for a queen starts with the letter D)

The colors are correct. white queen stands on a white square and the d-file. (name for queen in several languages is dama, Dame, or similar)
Watched all the way through to see if the chess board was correct, a lot of people will try playing chess with a black square on their right, nothing technically wrong with it, it’s just not the “proper” orientation, and I had to know
