  • Dodge Durango SRT 2018 TestDriveNow Video Review By Auto Critic Steve Hammes. Dodge’s product portfolio might be thin but if you appreciate American muscle there’s no one doing it with more brashness. So of course, it was high time that they stuffed a 392 HEMI into their 3-row SUV. This is the new Durango SRT.

I got 2003 durango limited edition with the 4.7 magnum engine. I live in Detroit area where cars rust in 5 years. 17 years later my durango is still looking good, I think the plastic wheel well fenders prevented rust. The engine has 110,000 miles and it still runs like a top lol.

They ONLY reviewer ever to call out that the 2nd row seats in the Durango are not that roomy - I walked into a dealer hot and heavy to buy an R/T last year and took it for a test drive (OK power) and got into second row and immediately noticed that my legs (5'10") were almost touching the front seats and was really bummed out. Thanks for staying on point Steve!

Not sure where peoples reliability comments come from? I think Chrysler products are great. They get a bad a rap cause they’ll sell them to anyone with a heart beat who can sign their name. Then They can’t afford to maintain them and it drives the reliability issue up. It’s weird that if you don’t change your oil that you get engine issues. I’m not sure about the BMW guy saying the x5 50 is more reliable and better on gas. In-laws are on their 3rd x5 and it just broke down too. They haven’t managed to get one past 120k without at least 8 grand in repairs.

For 75,000, it would probably be better to go with the Rt instead. Yes, better practicality than the a Charger or Challenger, but not enough. I don't think sales will go too well with it. I see more people choosing the GT or RT. I see the price dropping to 55-60,000 quick, more on the lower end.

Just for a little Mopar muscle humor, Imagine the engine from this crammed into Canadian TV and Stand up character Red Green’s Dodge Ram “Possum Van”, just in case he needs to run away from his nerdy and annoying nephew Harold and his equally nerdy but not as annoying wife Bonnie. I jokingly like to refer to high performance SUVs like this Durango SRT as “Gotta get away escape vehicles from annoying and/or mean spirited relatives”.

Really surprised how quick they got the 0-60 on these, that 392 is dialed out! That said living with one of these is semi cool until you go to the gas station every week... that 12mpg, as much as you want to ignore it, just starts getting annoying week after week. At least it has for me in old age. My cars being “needy” in any way drives me nuts.
