I think the funniest thing about the cg Jabba scene is that Han still says "you're a wonderful human being"
I think that to myself literally every time I watch ANH! 😑
It was superfluous since Greedo said everything we need to know and this was just a repeat.
Tbf you could say it’s Hans sarcasm
i think the voicelines were reused from the deleted scene
I love that part. It's hilarious. I always thought it was intentional when I was a kid.
I hate it when people try to dumb EVERYTHING down for kids. First of all, not everything is solely for children. Second, kids are not nearly as dumb as adults often think they are. Seriously, making Greedo shoot was the only change that genuinely bothered me. I literally pause the movie when I am watching it now, go online, find the clip where Han shoots first, then go back to my movie when I watch A New Hope.
It's a stupid change that basically is for kids who can't handle the fact that the hero might 'break the rules'. The same kids that read Batman comics and know that they're heros aren't perfect do gooders all the time.
That scene just looks ridiculous... Even the first time I watched the films I thought something looked odd with that scene. Not only does it look terrible, but it makes no sense... >.>
+KingLink95 That's why everything is PG 13 now. It's all about money nowadays. Even if you're gonna make something PG 13ish, at least do it without diluting the original work of art so much. I mean, why not make Greedo be on the verge of taking a shot and Hans beating him to it---which is what the original implies already; but if you wanna alter anything, all you gotta do is emphasize that and make it more obvious (NOT CHANGE THE ENTIRE ACTION SEQUENCE!). Sigh... sorry for the long comment.
+KingLink95 totally agree...kids aren´t that stupid, and especially if parents take the time and explain them how han solo changes from a ruthless thug to a more or less honorable warrior over the course of the trilogy... it shows that even a thug can change, best moral aspect in a movie that can be shown...
GuildBankLooter It was just an example.
Wow. I can't believe how much Hellogreedo has changed since this video
Disney money changers people
@Richard Sutton okay pal
@Richard Sutton no fucker
@@Swervemendit i see someone is still immature.
@@anthonytrashboat I'm sorry, you must be the supreme gentleman. My bad
It’s crazy to look back and see how far HelloGreedo has come back from this to now.
It's crazy how 12 years later people forgot what Lucas did to Star Wars and want him to come back.
The greedo shooting first thing really sucked. The whole point of han solos character was that he was a badass, a rogue, a guy who *wasn't* inherently good.
+Bart Homer It's spelled canon. With one n.
+Hank Wimbleton But it has nothing to do with being good or bad, when only Han shot in the original. It is self-defense in every way. Greedo pointed a gun on him, threatened his life, who else wouldn't have shot?
It was really stupid to change it that's for sure.
+Hank Wimbleton this is the only thing that bothers me but actually I don't see Greedo's shot because the original scene is in my mind :D other than that I don't mind much about the other changes.
+Hank Wimbleton Iam glad he hasnt done something like that in the SwordFight/GUN Scene at Temple of Death. Imagine that the Swordfighters Throws his Sword :-)
+GAMBIT Slacklines In E.T. they changed the Police guns to walkie-talkies.
Wouldn't want to offend the sensibilities of non-gun-owning parents.
What the fuck is that first Jabba? xD
+AlphaLineGaming I was there, in 1997, seeing that ugly blob of CGI-goo on the big screen... TWICE!
+Schwatvogel man, i'm so fucking sorry about you :(
+EPIC DVORF they should have used and made the jabba the hutt puppet from episode 6 in episode 4
+AlphaLineGaming that was the original
+AlphaLineGaming I stilll didn't understand, the first prequel was just one year after, and it had the same Jabba as the 2004 version of the first...George is stupid sometimes

Omg 😭
True
Greedo didn't shoot first
Also Han DID NOT shoot first
Han just shot and killed Greedo, no more, no less
Dan Johnson I say it doesn't matter because Greedo missed. Whether or not you shoot first, if the shot misses, it doesn't matter!
Han shot first is the same as Han only shooting. Because Greedo was planning to shoot him, but didn't get the chance to. It's not incorrect to say "Han shot first" since Greedo wanted to shoot him whether he got the shot or not.
PR&NJ RR it does matter it as it shows you a lot about Han as person that he would shoot first
@@prnjrr1783 It also matters because it makes greedo seem like a complete and utter buffoon for missing at point blank range
@@prnjrr1783 Shut up, special edition defender.
That moment you realize this was greedo's first ever video.
This video is what introduced me to him
Why does Han get away with stepping on Jabba's tail? The biggest crime lord in the Galaxy! And Jabba lets him get away with it, it's the equivalent of going up to a mafia crime boss and punching him round the face in-front of a group of armed men; Han would be shot on the spot!
Alastair Millar why don’t you look at the original version ?
@@rayvega3163 ? What? why?
@@rayvega3163 your 4 years late mate
Killing Me Will Not Bring Back Your Apples first of all, Jabba was ORIGINALLY to be human but since this is the deleted scene, and plus since CGI barely existed, you can guess why Han stepped on Jabba’s tail...
@@rayvega3163 I already knew all of that and the guy who posted originally probably did too, so I was asking why you were telling a rando to look up a scene that he has probably already seen.
"I have altered the movie. Pray I don't alter it further."
Though apparently the original versions are being released.
+Mike Williamson Star Wars anti-cheese edits look them up on CZcams.
If only it were true
NOT being released officially. They were produced by fans and made avaialable to download. NO blu ray or anything official. And watch out once Lucas finds out....
He’s changed so much in 8 years, he has a kid now dang
I have the original trilogy in DVD. It was a limited edition from 2006. All three movies come with 2 discs: Disc 1 Edited version and disc 2. The ORIGINAL THEATRICAL version!!!
It has bad sound quality though. I still rather watch it on a VHS.
+JeremyPredator I have that one too, but the quality is poor, the remastered has better sound and clearer picture
well, i like to watch them like we were in the 70s, 80s. XDD. But you are right about that, specially the sound quality
@@JeremyPredator They did not look and sound like a laserdisc when they were projected onto theater screens from 35mm film. Those crusty old non anamorphic transfers do not represent what these films were like when they were originally released in theaters.
Hello Greedo: "I can't think of a bigger waste of time than debating art"
Also Hello Greedo: Debates art
I think Lucas has a fetish for bad CGI
Bad by todays standards. Bake then they were probably top of the line.
TheMadnessOfMadara
In 2011? That was the last time there was a special edition release with more changes. There was plenty of technological advancement in 2011 to work in quality CGI. George Lucas just didn’t know what the fuck he was doing. He’s a great imaginateur and concept builder, but he can’t direct, write dialogue, or produce worth shit.
You think there would be good looking CGI today if it wasn't for what ILM created for Terminator 2, Jurassic Park and The Phantom Menace? Some of the CGI might look dated today, but that's the way special effects work. George has always been a pioneer who pushed the limits on special effects, paving the way for effects we now take for granted.
He has a fetish for Jar Jar, WOAH DID I SAY THAT OUT LOUD
@@ffjreviews9029 Well Jar Jar Binks is in Return of the Jedi 2004 Blu-Ray special edition. Wow Jar Jar Binks is in the Original Trilogy since 2004.
Disney needs to release the films on Blu-ray completely unedited just as they were originally shown on the big screen.
+SOCAL3800
I think that once FOX's distribution rights to Empire and Jedi expire in 2020, Disney will likely try to sue the guy behind the Despecialized Edition. Though there is a chance they could use the Despecialized Editions to sell on Blu-Ray and stuff, like as a *Millennium Set* Edition. I mean, one there would be people who would buy it, and two the same thing happened with Raising Cain where the director loved the fan edit so much the fan edit ended up being used as the Director's Cut.
Let's hope they do this. After they've completed the third trilogy would be the best time do this. A box set of all nine Star Wars movies in Blu ray with ANH, TESB and TLJ in their unaltered original form.
I've been saying that since 1997
Unauthorized 'Despecialized' versions of the trilogy on blu-ray are available on ebay. I picked up a 3-Disc set 2 yrs ago, and they are awesome. Elements from DVD and laserdisc releases were remastered and integrated with newer blu-ray versions of the 'Specialized' versions, and they look fantastic. What you get are the original versions in reasonably stunning blu-ray quality, w/ nothing from the new shit except the nice little touch-ups here and there. It's like watching remastered versions of the original trilogy...warts and all.
Harmy’s Despecialized edition is a great success. ;)
But I LOVE Adywan Star Wars Revisited
better, because he hates some of the
Special edition changes like the
Jabba The Hutt scene for example.
Adywan Revisited likes some of the
Special edition changes, but he also edited and made new better special effects because some of the special effects how they were originally don’t look very well.
He heavily re-edited the continuity of the film, fixing all goofs and movie mistakes, creating new CGI effects and recut scenes all together!
Adywan puts his own flair and vision to the original Star Wars trilogy!
In The Empire Strikes Back Revisited
there are more than 200 changes!
Some changes are small and some are big. Some are made for restoration from the theatrical version and some are made for the editor’s artistic vision!
He spent 9 years in the making, Adywan went deep with that one, building entirely new miniature sets, models, landscapes and even big load of Dagohba Trees by hand to improve the various scenes!
I'm hoping Disney releases the original theatrical versions. They know there is money to be made by doing so, and they KNOW we want to see it. It'd be stupid not to let this happen.
Oh no a rock has been added the entire movie is sooo different now.
***** I can see you're point but its just my opinion. I Don't care i even like them. But not greedo that one i hate.
How did R2 get in there if there is a rock in the way???

A legend was born.
0:00 a legend was born
You call this guy... a legend!?! Just wait till you move out your mothers basement kid. Maybe then you'll see real legends
Unfortunately, the first time I watched Star Wars was the Special Edition, I was only about 7 or 8 at the time, and I can safely say that having Greedo shoot first does absolutely nothing for kids. For me, it was just confusing. It seemed pretty obvious that Han was planning to kill Greedo and escape when the camera showed him reaching down for his weapon. So, seeing the laser firing towards him and MISSING just made me think: "What the hell was that?" I was wondering if the laser bounced back at him or something. It never really occurred to me that Greedo tried to shoot him because it didn't make sense, as it was too quick a response and they were at point-blank range.
omg, are you me? :oo
I saw the special editions first as well...I never really noticed who shot first, all I noticed was that there was a shot and Greedo was dead, so Han killed him, end of.
I just watched the Despecialized edition and i highly recommend it for anyone who wants to watch the original Star Wars in true unaltered HD glory. I must have seen this film about 50 times in my life and it totally craps over any remastered version that was ever officially released, i honestly can't say enough good things about it!

+jayhartRIC i had literally just bought the usual suspects to watch it for the first time today, and had purposely avoided hearing the ending for years..... >:(
Isreal Centeno sorry about that. I nearly had it spoiled for me as well before seeing it. Idk why but a lot of people seem to want to spoil that movie vs any other.

When Greedo mentions that "the groundbreaking special effects... baffled moviegoers" at 0:38, it made me realize that back then, audiences had no idea how these special effects were created, whereas now people often assume that special effects were accomplished using CGI. I feel like getting that peek behind the curtain makes people assume that it's only ever a short little bald man back there.
"How dare Lucas spoil the surprise"
*Spoils the fuck out of The Usual Suspect
I’m the only one going back and watching these over and over again, I love this video
The older George gets the more he looks like Jabba the Hutt

"I like that boulder! That is a nice boulder!"-Donkey
There are some changes that I do like. The stormtroopers in the hangar is one of them. It doesn't make sense for solo to charge a squad of soldiers, and then turn and run away when he comes upon... a few more. But a hangar full of them? Perhaps the amount of soldiers added was overkill, but the idea is the same.
i like the ships scenes too... like when millenium falcon fly away from tattoine
Actually, a stormtrooper hangar was one of the very few changes that is actually justified. I mean, when I saw in the original version of the movie a Han that charged at those few troopers only to shoot at one of them and then run away like a complete pussy. However, it can now be explained that Han simply didn't expect that shit ton of soldiers. And honestly, amount is indeed Overkill, but that's what you expect from a death star, a thing that is capable of destroying a planet.
Damn this video is old, greedo is so much more enthusiastic now lol
notice that they photoshop Han up and over Jabba's Tail in the Special Edition, 1:35

+Eren Jaeger they dont use photoshop to edit a movie smart one

@HelloGreedo I remember when this video came out. Feels like I've grown up with this channel.
Same here. This channel was so cool back then. It has great things now, but there was just something genuine about this little Star Wars community. I really miss when HG was more honest and raw with his opinions. It’s obviously more mature the way he does it now-digesting other people’s thoughts too-but, I felt that back then he was purely talking from what he was passionate about. His older videos are definitely still my favorite.
0:55 - 1:06, Oh, boy. The nostalgia is coming back to me already... (I knew I would stumble upon this video eventually!)
A masterpiece can't be improved. It only can be ruined.
The axiom is for all the time.
I have never agreed with everything HelloGreedo says, but his take on Han Solo is spot on, and in my opinion, marked the beginning of the "disnification" of this franchise.
2011 HelloGreedo kinda feels like the Cybershell of Star Wars
I miss THIS HelloGreedo
Me too...good old times...now He become a Disney shill.
One word: Macklunkey
Even as a child in the 90's, I always thought it was odd how Greedo missed at point blank range, and it never looked right when Han jerks his head to the side.
Omfg, I saw all of these like 9 years ago. I'm so glad I found them again. Came full circle.
ahhhh like the good old day
It's only natural for every artist to go through a phase where they look back on their earlier works and think they're not good enough. But it's important to get a second opinion from your audience, and see what they think. I could understand polishing up scenes that had to be trimmed in the 70's, but sometimes it's better to leave things as they are.
Luckily I've already seen the usual suspects, that was a dick move for anyone who hasn't though
Society has ruined it for anyone who hasn't seen it anyway. Most people know that Kevin Spacey was Keyser Socey.
Tommy Carr I actually watched it without anyone spoiling it. Made it 16 years someone recommended the film so I decided to watch it without having any clue of the end. Star Wars however I knew Vader was Luke's Dad by age 4 and I didn't even watch them until I was 9.
I hate Kevin Spacey, there are better movies
Tommy Carr ha, but i have no idea how kevin spacey looks. checkmate, society!
Bertolt Hoover what do you gave agains kevin spacey
Putting in "What is Love" by Haddaway in the analysis of the head movements of Solo and Greedo was a hilarious inside joke and a nod to A Night at the Roxbury. Great great stuff. You get a "like" just for that.
I watched this video when it first came out. I didn't realize 8 years later he would become one of my favorite youtubers
WARNING! THIS GUY SPOILERS A MAJOR PLOT TWIST OF "THE USUAL SUSPECTS" (WITHOUT WARNING AND FOR NO GOOD REASON)!
Patrick Bateman
Just that Vader found his way into pop culture, making sure everyone knows about this, and The Usual Suspects is still seen as quite the twist ending. Most people I know of that watched it were blown away by it, and a single second in this video could completely ruin that. Just because you don't care doesn't mean no one else does.
+Black Box I watched _The Usual Suspects_ for the first time a year or two ago. I wasn't told that there was a plot twist. I was genuinely surprised, and pleased. I hate to break it to HelloGreedo, but even though he's allowed his opinion, ruining that wonderful experience for people who haven't seen the film definitely makes him a hypocrite.
Anyway, it's a false equivalency. I think it was safe to say that Jabba the Hut was going to be a weird looking alien. We had a lot of weird looking aliens in _Star Wars_. His appearance isn't necessarily a plot twist. Nor did it ever strike me that his appearance was supposed to be a big reveal or mystery. To me, that was supposed to be the Emperor. But whatever, that's just my opinion.
(Oh, and most people I know aren't familiar with Keyser Soze, but they're definitely familiar with Jabba the Hut)
+John Hooyer Whoever wants to keep the mystery alive, won't watch this video. This video is bound to contain spoilers. Why would someone who cares enough to want to know the story, open this video before watching the movies? The video is titled, "Star Wars Changes"...of COURSE there will be spoilers!
SylentEcho I don't mind that he gave away spoilers for STAR WARS, because the STAR WARS storyline was the subject of the video. What I think is an issue is that he brought up spoilers for something not related to STAR WARS without warning.
John Hooyer I agree. A lot of people don't know about that, yet. There's tons of people still discovering that awesome movie.
Back when this was the most controversial thing about star wars
I had recently stumbled on your channel. Man, you put out some top notch videos. Subscribed. Brilliant work, sir.
It is amazing to watch how you have improve the quality of your channel. Congrats from a peruvian follower.
The newer editions are much better than the original. Simply, because it improves quality and overcomes that horrible 80s' effects experience.
...with a horrible 90's special effects experience.
Just to illustrate my point. The added shot from 1997 of the Millennium Falcon passing over Cloud City: It looks exactly like what it is: 100% CGI, it looks like a playstation cut scene. Whereas I really struggle to find anything wrong with the model shots used just prior to this which remain in glorious contrast next to the awkward, jarring CGI.
No doubt there have been huge improvements in CGI since 1997, but in my opinion it's the work carried out in 1997 which is starting to date the films the most.
As a "purist" of course, I love the originals as they were. I don't think the hard work and craftsmanship from the 70's and 80's should ever be eradicated and when watching Star Wars I want to revel in the culture that they were made. I want to admire the work as it was and not have greedy George Lucas patronize me by assuming everything he does further immerses me in the Star Wars universe. What am I, 3 years old? You think a new voice on Boba Fett (particularly with a New Zealand accent) is gonna distance me any further from reality? Get real.
I have however NEVER heard of a fan of the "redux" versions who is completely happy with those newer versions. Greedo shooting first, Jabba's dance sequence, wacky robots in Mos Eisley, Vader now shouting "nooo"... the list goes on. So, you tell me who is unsatisfied. At least purists have versions they are 100% happy with (if only they were released properly on modern formats of course.)
That pretty much sums it up, thanks for reading.
Nobody's saying the improved effects are neccessarily bad we hate the random shit Lucas adds on for no reason
If you didn't like this 10yrs ago when you made this video. I can only imagine what the sequel trilogy has done to you.
Greedo can't believe 4 years since this. I've been a die hard fan of this channel and I'm watching The Force Awakens tomorrow with the hope of any fan.
God damn that had to be one of the better freaking vids on the subject I have seen in awhile! I really would love an original release of the theatrical versions on blue ray or any modern media that can do it justice. I am not talking about the ones with digitally added crap, not the "we have to put in certain actors to maintain continuity" and the biggest freaking one of all, we have to tone it down or change it for kids. I'm saying the ones with the true version we all grew up with and saw in theaters that was produced. Han shot first, it establishes he is a space cowboy and a rogue, anything else is a cheap trick for modern audiences who never saw the originals. I'm all for artistic control but this is insane, give viewers the option otherwise done produce anything if all u do is keep changing it. Your fans and future generations like it for their own reasons, be glad that your work is so appreciated and timeless, it does not need to be updated and messed with every few years.
I don't think George is lying when he says he's doing things that he couldn't do back then technologically. I think that was at least part of the original idea when he set out to do the re-release in 1997. You can see it in how they clean up a lot of the compositing and add some digital creatures here and there to just flesh out the atmosphere. I think putting the Jabba scene into the movie was just one of those "Let's do something fun for the fans" things, you have to remember these films weren't marketed to people who were going to watch Star Wars for the first time, they were marketed to people who had only seen it on VHS. Myself ironically since I didn't get the chance to see them in the cinema, my parents slacked off and never took me to any of them. But then I think what sort of happened is doing all of this started to show George the possibilities of what could be done. George then started thinking "Well what if I change this, or that". Greedo shooting first is an interesting thing because Steven Spielberg did something similar with E.T. with the 20th anniversary edition I think. He was a parent and suddenly said, "Wait a minute! I can't have my hero shooting a guy in cold blood, what kind of message does that send to kids?" so he changed the scene. Spielberg's reaction to the fans was to say "Oops, I was wrong" but George's reaction was to double down and justify his actions by revising it over and over again like he did with other changes along the way. Whenever he got the opportunity to change things he'd suddenly on a whim make changes because he can. What if Bobba was voiced by Tim Morrison who played Jango. What if Vader said No! in defiance to the Emperor, let's do it because I want to.
if you like the old versions watch them
You can't idiot they don't sell them anymore and the few left people won't sell and the few left that people will sell which is close to 0 are all on VHS

+HelloGreedo Wow. Just wow. He doesn't even know what a *video tape* is.
overhillmaster brah.... I still have the first DVD vcr combo player to first come out in Australia :3 still don't have a bluray player :P
Alistair Pace Well at least you can play the unedited versions. I still have a vhs player. In theory if you don't mind the quality difference there is no need to change to blu ray if the first ever combo to ever come out *still works*, and also they still make dvds. I can see the quality difference between vhs, dvd and blu ray.
that bit where Han moves his head to the side and 'what is love?' played in the background cracked me up
You have come a long way since this HelloGreedo!
Am I the only one around here who thinks that a good 60% of the special edition edits actually IMPROVED the film? No? I'll just go back to my dark corner then...
I do i like the special editions better to it keeps the movies relevant and makes then better to watch because of thr changes. The kids don't care about who shot first or who jaba is they watch it because of the adventure. The only people who hate for the changes are id
Joseph Tafoya There are some changes that I like. Such as the Hoth battle. When the film was being made, it was difficult to use CGI because it created a noticeable black outline around all CG objects. In space, you can't see it, but during the Hoth battle, the makers did everything they could to make the black line harder to see. One thing they did was that they increased the transparency of many objects, for example, the inside of the cock-pits, where you can actually see THROUGH the controls. This was fixed in the special edition.
TheMamsies ya true
Some of the changes were really good. But making Force Ghost Anikin's face look like he has never aged after 15 years is really weird.
Why don't they just do what Ridley Scott did with Blade Runner and release a multi-disc edition featuring all different prints of the film? I don't mind the updated effects (except Jabba, he looks terrible), but the "Han shot first / second / same time" thing is just stupid.
I really hate the updates to the Vader "Noooo" and ghost Anakin in the third film too. I'm indifferent toward the Sarlacc pit monster. The Jabba's palace song sequence I can't really comment on since I've never seen the original. Either way the singing aliens looks ridiculous.
I know! I have Blade Runner 30th Anniversary Blu-Ray and it contained all 5 versions of the film:
US Theatrical Cut
International Theatrical Cut
Director's Cut
Final Cut
Workprint
If Blade Runner can do that, Star Wars should do the same!
when I was a kid our Star Wars tape would always say "The ORIGINAL trilogy, unaltered on VHS ONE FINAL TIME". I didn't even know what that meant as a kid but thank God
You are so right! These changes don't add to the movie, they sometimes subtract from it.
The whole Greedo shot first change issue can be best explained as this:
Han Solo starts off as a mercenary looking out only for himself (and Chewbacca) but gradually finds a better cause worth fighting for. The problem with George Lucas changing things in the movies is that he tries to edit the characters to have them start off as what they end up being. It's like he doesn't understand that characters can change over the course of a story or that he doesn't know how to show it, which is probably why Anakin in the prequels is portrayed as being whiny rather than "a good friend".
I am not trying to be mean to George Lucas. Good for him for sticking up to Hollywood and starting his own massive franchise. Being the creator of STAR WARS will always be George's title, but he is by no means a god. He is a human being, and the thing about human beings is that they are prone to make bad decisions.
Or he's just a no nonsense smuggler who doesn't take shit from a bounty hunter who threatens to shoot him
Too many films, TV shows and games are dumbed down for children. I want to say that children ruin entertainment, although that would be a bit harsh. It's just I remember nothing being made easy when I was a child, we had to use our brain and figure things out. We had to re-watch and re-play things before they made sense. Sometimes it was left to interpretation, like the han and greedo shooting scenario. On second thought.....now I think about films today......yeah, young audiences ruin entertainment.
+TotallyToonsTV Young audiences don't ruin entertainment. Idiots that don't respect their capabilities and intelligence do.
People who produce entertainment with money on their minds are terrible. Go do something else if you want to make money.

The beginning of a great youtube channel, not to mention a high quality video too!
This is such a great series, I applaud you for making this. And I wanted to ask, are the steelbook blu ray Star Wars movies that were just released the same as the older blu Rays or are they different?
Maybe since Disney now owns Star Wars, maybe they could release the originals. The only thing Disney ever does is just touch up their films by restoring and increasing the resolution*
Well other companies like Fox own some of the unaltered edditions so unless they sell them to Disney...
In the future, they will be sold to Disney. None of the extra crap will be kept in the originals, fortunately maybe some but Disney has always done a food job remastering movies.

how in 8 years has he only got 200k subscribers? he needs way more
I’m glad I own the theatrical versions on DVD. I didn’t even know I had those cuts with my Blu-Ray copy when I was older because I got the DVDs as a 6 year old.
there are better versions online now some are 4k
Oh yeah the 2006 GOUT dvds.
My brother marathoned the original trilogy recently on DVD. I looked on the back of the cases and they said " Includes Digitally Altered and Original Theatrical Release" or something like that. And this from like 5 years ago. So it means they weren't destroyed!
I wish the term "remastered" simply meant digitally cleaning up the film to be on par with modern visual displays, not adding more crap that didn't need to be there. All of the digital scenes were totally out of place and you could tell straight away that it wasn't part of the original story. Lucas seemed to give us all the rope we needed to hang the suspension of disbelief.
That is what remastered means. The fact that people like Lucas throw it around when referring to revisionist bullcrap has mislead people into believing that remastering has to do with adding and changing crap.
we owe it to future generations
I agree with HelloGreedo's points here 110%
The only scene change in a new hope that i think is an improvement - IF George really felt the need to tinker with the movie, is when Han Solo is chasing the Stormtroopers down the passageway and gets caught out when he runs into a bay full of them - original being just a handful of Stormtroopers.
I totally agree with you! It's nice to see I'm not the only fan dissapointed
I'd rather have Greedo as an terrible shot over Han as a cold blooded murderer.
but the fact that he is a cold blooded murderer makes his redemption arc so much more meaningful
hazonku Tah dah
"Cold-blooded murderer"
No. That phrase means Greedo would have been UNARMED. But, since he wasn't...
But that's who Han is. That's why it's the worst change of them all.
Michael J. Caboose I've always viewed Han as being a dirtbag/sleazball mostly before he met Luke and Leia, but that's just me.
I'll say this about the changes,
Unnecessary? Yes
Ruins The Movie? Sometimes.
Are they still good movies though? Yes.
The Star Wars I grew up with was the 2004 DVD versions, but I did often watch the second disc which had the original unaltered versions. Either Way, I loved the original trilogy and I have a bit of a soft spot for the prequels too. Just Not Episode II, that one kinda sucked.
Furthermore, I have complete faith in Disney and their handling of the Star Wars license. I'm excited for the new trilogy and the force is strong with the House of Mouse.
Same with me.
What are you talking about? Phantom Menace was the most boring fucking thing ever put on to screen.
Micheal Polant
No, Episode II: attack of the clones is worse, hell The Star Wars Holiday Special is probably the worst thing ever.
Mr.Dr.Professor Toaster Unquestionably the worst. But we both agree that they're bad, correct?
Micheal Polant
I can agree that they don't live up to the originals, but bad...
I enjoyed Episode I for setting up the story of Star Wars and explaining some things. I can agree that the Gungans were horrible parts, but almost everything else I enjoyed.
I would give Episode I a 6.7/10
I only can only consider Episode II bad, and the Holiday Special as an atrocity. But the best thing to come out of the prequels was the TV show.
Everytime I watch one of these it makes me grateful that I have the original unaltered versions.
Omg this feels like a new video, not a video from 10 years ago for some reason
I can't believe it's been almost 6 years since this was uploaded, good god I feel old now.
@John Marston Yep
@@willwunsche6940Now it’s almost 12 :(
@@charlietheanteater3918 it's wild but Hello Greedo still uploads so that's sweet at least
I honestly don't care too much about the changes. I've watched both "versions" and It doesn't really bother me to be honest.
I still love the movies.
You're definitely right as long as it doesn't detract from the story it's fine
NOOO! Lucas changed the color correction by 6% on a filler scene and so he RAPED MY CHILDHOOD! :D
+Foxy 2k15 exactly!
I was 10 when these videos came out, crazy ..
Great job and amazing analysis of Lucas's ridiculous changes to his movies.
You’re wrong about the first one, people who watch it in order will see Jabba The Hutt in the Phantom Menacd
I really think that Disney will remaster the original 1977 movie with the upcoming JJ Star Wars :)
In JJ we trust :)
Be careful what you wish for
Well, since Disney bought Marvel we had nothing but good or entertaining movies... I really think that Disney will give us something good for Star Wars.
Unfortunately, 20th Century Fox owns distribution rights to the original 1977 Star Wars movie in perpetuity, I think. Although Disney did buy LucasFilm, they didn't acquire distribution rights to the first one. There's always a possibility that Disney can make a deal with Fox, but I don't think Lucas would want that for some reason.
Damn it!!! I was just about to watch Usual Suspects for the first time after this.... (had heard for years there was a great twist ending to it, and had completly avoided hearing what it was for years... until now)
These videos are nostalgic for me even though they’re only a couple years old
I'm glad I have the unaltered trilogy on VHS.
what vhs granpa
creadcharles XD
Laserdisc is by far the best unaltered version
Actually, the trilogy was altered a bit getting even on VHS, the only way you could ever watch the real unaltered versions is if you had the very original 35 mm films which was used for cinemas in 1977, 1980 and 1983.
what laserdisc granpa
Starwars was George Lucas's idea but it was the production set, art and costume designers, set builders, special effects people etc. who helped him make Starwars a great cinematic achievement. If George Lucas had complete control over the project like he did with the prequels C-3PO would have been a 7 foot reptile like green alien. Im not joking either, look it up.
*****
Wait a minute. Where did he say that?
i never hear of this for i know he wanted the third indiana jones movie to take place entirely inside a hunted house, but steven spielberg didn't listen to him.
Thank's HelloGreedo
This scene explanation 1:08 is what i'm looking all the time, until i found this video :)
(i guess i search with a wrong keywords. Thats why i didn't found this 2011 video)
I never watch the 1977 version.
In 1997, i was a kid, Star Wars remake was happening. My local TV station airing about review and preview of Star Wars digital enhancement all the time, that makes me likes Star Wars.
What i remember in '97, Harrison Ford was interviewed and he said he was regret for walking around the Jabba The Hutt.
Now you make me curious about the Beginner quality of Jabba The Hut 3D modelling of 1997 version :D
I hope i can find and buy VHS of Star Wars 1977 and 1997 version in eBay.
i love star wars and hellogreedo
han stepped on jabba's tale that's why
you guys act like you created star wars that it came out of your head you have no right to ask George to change HIS ideas this isn't your movie its his creation and he has the right to change what ever he wants no matter how bad it is and you say he has no right to change his creation lol? are you kidding me? did you have any input in creating the movie that has become this iconic? no right? then shut up and don't buy the new movies and just keep the movies you enjoy
says one who knows nothing about the original star wars before the special edition
and he is saying his own opinion
Going back and altering the films like he does is just insulting to the fans, along with his constant need to turn Star Wars into a money-making kids franchise when most of the fanbase are adults. 1313 looked like the first attempt at catering to the actual fans who made his films such a success, but then it was scrapped. Instead we're getting new films to butcher the existing universe written over 30+ years, a new kids tv show (because we need another, clearly) and a 10 year deal with EA (the greediest bastards in the gaming world).
So there's a few damn good reason why people don't care much for GL's shit anymore.
butthurt?
Again with this insane belief that if you didn't make it or can't make something better you are not allowed to criticize...
Lol watching Greedo without the stormtrooper mask and his old greedo mask is amazing 😂👌🏻
Love the sarcasm on the edited effects
