      Thank you!!! Idk if it was because i was skating throughout the 2000's-2010's that it just engrained into me that FS overcrook WAS a grind! Overcrooks were so awesome to me growing up. I loved the board control of tweaking out ur grind either FS or BS. Both are beyond awesome and I'm so glad to hear people talk about this like this. • @mattd1659
      @mattd1659 Před 2 lety +13

      I think that’s the thing - it’s to do with the angle of the tweak. Too many people over rotating a fs nosegrind by like 5 degrees and claiming overcrook. If it’s gonna be counted as overcrook, and a standalone trick, it needs to be really tweaked.

    I've always thought FS 5-0 was cool as a ledge trick. I think it is elegantly simple and surprisingly versatile. I actually think it looks great all ways, whether balanced, with tail dragging, tweaked out a little, popped out from, or some combination of those. Ledge fs 5-0s are not too common in pro skateboarding so it almost always sticks out to me when some plaza shredder or whoever does one. They are boldly simple in a pleasing way, kind of like doing a flatground kickflip mid-line.

    My biggest problem with frontside nose grinds not existing is that the main argument is it’s difficult. I have shown people several examples of a straight frontside nose grind on a round rail and the main rebuttals are, “yeah but do you know how hard that is??’ It just seems silly to me to say something doesn’t exist or to not distinguish tricks solely because they are difficult not because they are actually the same.

Basically doesn’t feel like any other grind because your entire truck is grinding and a wheel power sliding to be a proper overcrook. Also I differentiate on the rail depending how the truck is pinched. If you’re on top the rail - nose grind. Some how get the pinch like in example picture - overcrook

Why have they randomly applied that logic to that one trick? 5-0s are easier that 50-50s in a lot of cases do we start calling them 50-50s? No because the whole point in naming things is so you can describe it to another human.

    front overcrooks exist, when you ollie all the way over and lock in pinched it’s a perfect ollie over to backside crooked. especially distinguishable on ledges and square rails. on round rails it has to be pronounced, no drifting to the side later allowed that’s a nose grind, gotta ollie alllll the way over and smack it in crooked and hold it pinched and ride it out

    Some controversial takes here but that's why we're here, lol. Plenty more grinds left for a follow up video too. I grew up skating in the late 90s and for me fs nollie switch crooks or fakie ollie switch crooks were the pinnacle of dope grinds on a ledge.

    I have seen one backside willy on Chicago chase bank ledges and It might have to do with the filmer but I never felt the need to go back and watch a backside Willy until i saw that clip

    19:30 this is gonna be very controversial but i actually prefer how nose grinds look when their nose is scraping, same thing goes for 5-0’s. it looks more aggressive which makes it look cooler to me

  • @letsplayclassicgames5024

    I guess this shows how things change in era's of skating, but I never thought that a fs 50-50 would be held above a bs crook. With that being said lots of valid points and a fun video. Definitely agree on the BS Nosegrind, if you can't do em proper like Wenning, just don't.

    My logic on the fs overcrook: if it looks like it’s pinched well enough to get on daspinch, then it’s a fs overcrook
