Your commentary makes your videos entertaining. I hate to say it but some of the other You Tuber's are just dull.

We love trains and all the switching!!!!! I used to take my Son when he was 5 yrs old to the FMC yard in Wayne Michigan and watched them switch out empty for loaded auto racks !!! He's 43 now !!!!

Your videos don't feel long. The engaging commentary and surprised humor.
I'm one of those people who watch and leave, but you're the one that stayed true to entertaining all the way though.
I've watched a lot layout and sessions that will make me happy instead of being bored.

@@socalscalemodels Agreed - not too long. A while back you had a survey asking about the length of videos. Like you, I am also a fan of Lance Mindheim's operating philosophy, so I find that your 30+ minutes long operating videos are simply enthralling. And I love your commentary / jabbering must better than the operation videos with words on the screen. Although Lance labeled the operating guidelines and suggestions as "modern operation", most of them apply equally well to a small switching model railroad of late '70's era, like mine. Please keep it up, I love it!

I don't know if I'm one of those that drops off within a couple of minutes but I thought to myself that hell I can watch your videos on the big screen (TV) with my wife, not sign up for Google and not connected to my phone so when we're done usually get back on my phone and either comment or give a thumbs up or both. 😊

I enjoy the real-time format of your videos. TBH, I prefer them to be longer - one, because they are informative/inspiring; and two - because they help me get through my work 'quicker.' Keep up the great work!

Another awesome video Rick. The time it takes to break up and reconfigure the consist just adds to the realism of your operations. Looking forward to your next video.

Great video Rick, I’ve never been excited about switching but you are inspiring me to build more than a big double track loop of track when I do get started on my layout . Thanks for sharing your journeys.

    Good stuff.
I'm going to highly suggest that you extend the headroom track on the switchback so that it holds at least 4 car lengths. Splitting power and getting one car in or out at a time might be fun now, but will end up being tedious and you'll not want to use the track in the future.
The switchback track on my small layout holds 4 40 footers and one engine comfortably, and the industry holds 2 cars at a time. Still gives the moves of a switchback, but isn't tedious.

Rick the separation of the consist and re-consist was great , it would take a bit of time in RL so that was great , IMO best switching of that industry to date , an I've been here a wee while.. ❤ it 😁
Cheers , great fun Rick... and hi🖐 to conductor Benjamin...

You need to hide the edges of the Athearn and United Polymers buildings with some trees to help disguise the fact that they are building flats just like you did on the Soundtraxx building.

Hey Rick.. those six spots at Edison.. what if you added some safety striped unloading areas at the center of each spot to further designate where to set them out. It would add some scenery so to speak, make the industry more interesting and actually show a designated unloading area for each of the six spots. Just a thought.

Another great video thank you. Out of interest is that switchback prototypical, is it based on a actual yard on the line you model ?
I love how you've done the concreted area. It's very realistic looking. I've always liked this yard, from the first time I saw it.

I wonder if switchbacks are found in the real thing? I have two on my layout but unless the tail track is long enough it could be a big pain.

    • @socalscalemodels

The real line only has manual switches the conductors have to unlock and throw by hand.

Look up 'speed matching locomotives' here on youtube, lots of videos about it.
