    This is my favorite part of model railroading when you designing a section of a layout or a switching area and you put cardboard boxes, a couple of trees and kind of figure things out. Absolutely loving this. Can't wait to see the progress. You've been such an inspiration!🎉

    I'm glad that you mentioned Black Rifle Coffee Company, I just have to have them as our Coffee vendor on the Bonneville Industrial Terminal and Transfer.I also like how you have pictures above the area to be modeled. Since I'm modeling freelanced raillroad, I started to draw mine down to scale of how I envision my areas on my layout would look. Today I dree up a heli-pad for both life threatening emergencies and a place for helicopter's to fly in and grab water to fight forest fires. Then one of the Bonneville Industrial Terminal and Transfer's tow truck came in today with 40 non working rotary beacon lights for the trucks and locomomotives, then some more pallets for the heavy equiipment shop, last month I went overboard with buying 55 gallon drums from mini prints.
    Keep on with the inspiring videos, I'm always looking forward to seeing them.

    I know this is only a test run, but in the future, the UP covered hopper would not go to Westpac. It is a grain hopper, the other two are for plastic pellets. Love the new section of your railroad. Looking forward to more videos.

    I grew up NE Philly and I remember hanging out Holmesburg JCT where the Bustleton Branch connect to the Northeast Corridor. The one big industry was Stone Containers where paper bags and cardboard boxes are made. There was also CW Thomas Injection plastic moldings received plastic pellets in covered hoppers.

    For that bakc industry that goes across the road, a fun scenic idea, would be to lay ties, and leave the rail off as though the track got removed, like a lot of track did after the 96 merger with SP.

    Nice video, as always Rick. Might I give you a suggestion? Don't do too much work on the end of the new section before you add the second level. Construction of the second level will drop all sorts of dust and debris onto the "finished" section. Suggest you build the top section first and then compete the lower section. Just a thought to consider. As always great video, thanks for your time and effort. I enjoy watching.

    heya, Timber9705 mentioned the UP grain hopper, I thought I'd just add to the info. The Raty old CNW 5150 hopper should have the small round hatches on the roof if it's in Plastic pellet service. (see the bottom gates) hope you still have those.
    Note that as a CNW car it's more likely for milled products or grains. Here's the problem with these. Athearn offered both
    roof hatches, but not the proper bottom gates. A grain car should have trough roof hatches and slide bottom gates; not
    the pneumatic ones for plastics. There is an aftermarket gate set for these cars to correct that. Let me know if you want
    the part #.
    Note: this is just some information I learned and wish I'd had shared with me at an earlier date. So would have more
    correct models. That said, It's your RR! I have a friend, with a really nice, huge layout we operated on. He treated all
    his covered hoppers the same. So a jumbo pellet car, might be as likely to show up at a cement plant; as the proper little 2 bay cars. Drove me nuts, and we had some good laughs with that. I don't know if he's ever fixed/changed that. Anyway
    just passing the info along.
    Stay cool, just along for the ride!. really enjoying to process of making scenes photogenic. (my layout is all operations)💨🏄‍♂

    Nice video, Rick! For crossing the Santa Anna river, check out Central Valley Model Works. They make some very nice bridge kits. They are not beginner kits, by any means, but an experienced modeler such as yourself shouldn't have any trouble with them. I built their 1901 truss bridge kit. It was work, but it came out really nice! Check 'em out!

    You might need to put some bumpers on the ends of those tracks so you don't take a chance of your trains running off the end.

  • @chipset2900
    @chipset2900 Před rokem

    2nd guessing, I wonder if laying the main track diagonally down the length of the 8ft would look and work better... Could have omitted the joggle in the middle. FXI could be called "FIX" or "" FIXY" if you're dyslexic.

  • @mikerooney7928

    Are you going to bring back your staging tracks? Just do a cross over 45 degree type? Will add even more operational features.

  • @jasonweir6345
    @jasonweir6345 Před rokem

    You place a "no longer rail-served" industry on the end of that industry spur, then put either an OOS spur, or the remnants of one. Would give reason for tracks to extend through a road... help tell a story of local history so to speak

  • @David-yo5re
    @David-yo5re Před rokem

    Awesome. Everything worked out perfectly.
    But, I have a question. Doesn't WesPac receive or ship tank cars too? Maybe a second spur for a couple tankers at WesPac would really give you some operational challenges. That's just my thoughts. Otherwise it's looking great.

    Operations can hinder progress on scenery. A thought will you have any spurs generally above street level. I do know that much of the area you’re modeling is flat.

  • @beeble2003
    @beeble2003 Před rokem

    I don't understand how your second level is going to work. You say the trains will climb behind the backdrop, which is fine, but then you need to do a 180-degree turn and your boards aren't wide enough for that. Even with an absolute-minimum 18-inch radius, you need three feet in width to turn around; with a more comfortable 22-inch radius (a lot of cars and locomotives won't go around 18"), you need more like four feet, which is basically double the width of your baseboard.

    Totally Dig your idea of using mock ups and running some trains before the finished product.
    One problem I'm having is trying to manipulate topography.
    I do not want any grades on my layout, so I'm fighting with perspective.
    As I have said before! Your videos are very inspiring, not sure if you have instagram but I have been posting layout updates on mine @boommanpaddy cheers!
