I have been there last week - horrible traffic in the main road, nearly impossible to cross it on foot. Shops close as early as 4.30/5.00, cafés not much later. When you walk the side streets, it feels like a cemetary... A had a chat with a beautiful 90 year old lady (this was my only "fairy" encounter) and she pointed at some buildings (a former textile factory, a former rubber factory), now all dead or housing pizzerias. Ah, yes, there is even a tourist information, with such an idiotic bloke inside, rude and dumb, that I stepped back out as quickly as I could.
If you went on a Sunday, everywhere has to close by 4pm. it's the Law..Pretty places are always busy, and usually have crossings nearby.. of course the buildings are used for something else these days, as for calling a idiot, rude and dumb I really think there's something amiss with yourself....
