Having just assembled this great grill over the past weekend, I have a couple of pointers to share.
This is a time consuming process. It took the two of us 7.5 hours to complete! And it's best to have three people when lifting the grill head onto the base.
As many others already commented, the paper assembly instructions are close to useless. Seriously Napoleon, invest a few bucks and redo this manual.
Do not attempt to take the door hinges off the cabinet, attach them to the doors and then try to reattach the hinges to the cabinet, as done in this video. Instead, simply hold the doors in place while attaching the hinges to the doors. Simple. Quick. Not frustrating.
You will end up with a pickup truck load of materials after the build. We had the 4x5 wooden pallet that it was shipped on, several large plastic bags, a bunch of random pieces of plastic and a ton of cardboard.
We were very impressed with the quality of materials used in this grill and the way everything fit so precisely when assembled. That's a good sign of a well made product.
And now to actually start grilling!

@@NapoleonProducts I thought manual was awesome if you take the time to figure it out. At first I was confused but once I got what you guys were trying to do I took my time and carefully digested the drawings (every drawing has a purpose). That point on it was a breeze. I guess you can make the angles and the gap in certain drawings more profound so people can understand it better? It's way better than word based manual.

I just purchased the Pro 500 grill and finished assembly a few minutes ago. I did 100% of the assembly by myself other than my wife helping me set the main grill on the stand and it took just under 2.5hrs to complete. The instructions look overwhelming at first but just jump in and start and within 5 minutes it will all make sense. Yes, adding a few words would have been very helpful in the assembly manual but if you don't get in a hurry, it will go together just fine. I was very happy with the precision of the build and I can't wait to start throwing some meat on the grill!

About a week ago, I visited the Berrie, Ontario Factory Store and left with a Phantom Prestige 500 natural gas grill. It is still in the box, as I have been studying the noteless/written instruction-less Assembly Guide. I have been searching the Net for How to Assemble videos and found this one the most useful. I also found the comments below very useful. I believe I am now ready to assemble the Phantom based on what I have learned from these two ladies' assembly of a similar grill. I agree with Steve that the quality of the assembly information does a disservice to us customers - a $2500.00 grill should have a more useful 'how to assemble' booklet, complete with notes, instructions and CAUTIONS! My Prestige Pro500 natural gas grill is almost 7 years old and is still in very good working order, although the side burner is showing signs of needing replacement soon. Instead of repairing, I decided to buy the new limited-edition Phantom and am excited to finally getting it up and running. The reason I buy Napoleon top of the line grills is because they are made here in Canada.

In Connecticut i called a few appliance centers and most were out of the Prestige Pro 500, but one in particular, SK Lavery said it did not come with the Rotisserie unit but was charging $2199 which appears to be MSRP. So found a dealer in Norwich CT that did have the Prestige Pro 500 at $2199. Asked about the rotisserie but he had not idea. Ordered it and will pickup Monday to find out for sure. But could not find any listings from anyone online that shows different variations of the grill and what you get with it. Would imagine at this price point it would be just one version.

The two screws that hold the plate need elongated holes to fine tune the logo lens. Why they didn't think of this i don't know. So I am considering buying a Napoleon Prestige 500 RSIB. I'm replacing a Weber Summit that's comparable and loved it but it's over 12 years old and I'm ready for a new one. My one main issue with the Summit is the "Drip Tray", I'm not against them in general but the Weber tray gets flooded with any rain whether you have their cover on or not. It makes it full of nasty greasy water and emptying it will result in it filling up quickly again.
Does this grill also have this problem with any rain filling up the drip tray? If I use the cover will it still flood with water?

    • @NapoleonProducts
      @NapoleonProducts  Před 2 lety

Thank you for reaching out! We completely understand your concern regarding this. The cart does have a rear panel at that back to keep the elements out. The drip pan also slides out from the front of the grill. As long as you are keeping your grill covered during rainfall (and it isn't raining sideways!) Your drip pan should not flood with water. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out at webcare@napoleon.com 🔥🙂

in a lot of cases I think it might be stress over looking at the instructions without actually trying to assemble. i looked at all the parts and at all the pictures without written instructions and i panicked a little at first. Once I actually laid everything out and started step by step it was rather simple and everything went together very easily. It is obviously quality construction with everything fitting together easily. The only thing i had a concern with was how much i should tighten the bolts. I would have liked some written guidance on that. However i have a fair bit of experience in assembling things i buy. someone who hasn't done much assembly might not find the pictures as easy to follow.

I had that lying around inside the grill when I received it, with no instruction or assembly manual, and the PDF ones I downloaded from your site don't show that part and don't mention it. I had no clue what to do with it, and the assembly videos for the PRO665 never show that step.
It's not normal for customers to have to watch all the videos for all the products you sell in order to be able to put a specific grill together. It's not normal to have such poor documentation (and that's for the lucky customers that get a manual in the box, unlike me). You can't tell people that you care about their feedback if the same horrendous documentation is still used after many years of customer complaints. I want to believe that you build well engineered products, but in the end you don't care about your customers if you expect them to take a day off work just so they can call in to your Technical Support during business hours to solve issues that every single customer will face. I mean it's ridiculous, get the documentation right the first time, have proper quality assurance so that said manual ends up in the box as it should, and then your technical support team will be able to focus on the real, hopefully exceptional issues that are bound to creep up in any business. It seems to me like it would be money well spent, which in turn would save a lot of support costs and avoid alienating your customers who are investing a lot of their hard earned money on what should be a superior product in *every* aspect.

It wasn’t a race and there was a few beers and medicinal adventures during the process lol
I have to mention thought, the sticker for the internal temps is wrong, Cooking Whole Cuts of Pork: USDA has lowered the recommended safe cooking temperature for whole cuts of pork from 160 ºF to 145 ºF with the addition of a three-minute rest time. Cook pork, roasts, and chops to 145 ºF as measured with a food thermometer before removing meat from the heat source, with a three-minute rest time before carving or consuming. This will result in a product that is both safe and at its best quality-juicy and tender.

I found the assembly instuctions and videos less than helpful. Some steps that need clarifying. At 1:30 in the video, the cart bottom and gas cannister slide assembly process should be included. In the video it is already assembled. The pictogram shows 4 bolts securing the slide. I tried every possible front to back location to fit 4 bolts through the slide into the bottom plate. I could only fit 2 bolts in the rear. (Perhaps I was sent the wrong parts, but a video of the assembly would have clarified the situation. At around 6 minutes into the video, the latch/door install process lacks clarity. First of all, the protective film on the doors should be removed at this point since it is nearly impossible to remove it (particularly from the bottom edge) once the doors are installed. (N.B. A starter tab would be a boon!) Second, the hinge assembly needs to be shown - neither the assembler's gloved hand nor the pictogram on the instruction sheet show the release mechanism for the hinge. Some video about aligning the doors once installed would be nice as well. At 9:26 the installation of the side burner needs a side view. It was completely unclear that the top (already installed, stainless) bolts were the items to hang the burner on, rather than bolts to be installed in the unfilled slots immediately below them. It IS clear in the next step (at 10:30 in the video) but by that time I had wasted a 1/2 hr trying to install the black bolts. Ay 11:48 the installation of the heat shield (?) is obscured by the overlay of the pictogram, and it's not clear that this part is simply held in place by gravity ! Finally, at 12:40 you show the grill illuminated, but you never illustrate how to power the grill itself, either in the video or on the quick install sheet. I had to hunt through the un-indexed manual's bi language addendum to find how to plug it in. Hope this saves some other poor soul some time and consternation !

YES! YES! YOU NEED A SIDE VIEW NAPOLEON! The paper instructions are horrible, some people need words in their instructions. Not all of us are engineers who this comes naturally to. As Peter Potthoff states there are several obscured views that you really do not know what is going on. I just put together a Blackstone dual air fryer unit and because they use both diagrams and words, that was significantly easier for me to assemble compared to the Napoleon P500.

It's amazing to me that for over 3 years people have been paying $1000's for these grills and complaining about the assembly instructions and video and nothing has been done by Napoleon to address the complaints. Your only action has been to offer up the toll free help line. Hey Napoleon? What two days of the week are folks most likely to take 3 hrs of their time to assemble a grill and use it!? Answer: the same two days of the week your help line is unavailable! Saturday and Sunday!
Here's a suggestion for you. I'm confident you won't do it, because honestly if you had the sense to think this was a good idea then you would have already done it. But maybe this will be fun for others to read:
    1. Go find 10 random people as volunteers and pay them $1000 each for their time and trouble
    2. Put them in teams of two and have them try to assemble a Prestige Pro with your current assembly instructions
    3. Watch them closely and take notes on steps that cause them frustration
    4. Write up a short addendum to the instructions explaining how to get unstuck for any step that confounds more than 1 team
    5. Include that addendum with all future deliveries
If you did this, you could let the folks answering your phones do more important work because the phone would stop ringing. Heck, maybe you could put them to work writing better instruction manuals. Ones with actual words in them!
How about I save you $8000?! Now that I've built this thing myself, just send me $2000 and I'll write the addendum for you!

The instructions are horrible and this video doesn’t appear to help a lick. Mine came missing significant parts (like the sides of the bottom cabinet). Now that I have them, some portions are bent. Furthermore, the holes don’t line up with the receiving holes for the bolts. I’ve been at this since 30 Sept and I’m on Step 3 of instructions.

Printed instructions are horrible. I thought the video was helpful. My 2 cents. Ship it assembled in 3 boxes. Top, bottom and sides.

Honestly, I have never been more frustrated by a set of instructions than those that came with my BBQ. And these videos only add insult to injury in how awful they are.
I consider myself pretty handy, but the entire kitchen Reno I just did was easier to do than this. It would help if you bothered printing different sets of instructions for each BBQ, and that is at minimum what should be expected from BBQs in this price range.
Do NOT buy a Napoleon BBQ. It is not worth the hassle.
