  • We approached this Napoleon Prestige 500 gas grill review with years of admiration for Napoleon’s brand, but as always, we had to get under the (literal) hood before making any bold declarations. Chef Tony was more than happy to oblige with his series of tried-and-true tests that get to the bottom of quality, performance, and features. On the quality side, Chef Tony found plenty to love in his Napoleon Prestige 500 review, from leading construction among Practical-class grills to a lifetime warranty on the main components. Every feature was thoughtful and effective, with a ceramic infrared side sear burner and rear rotisserie burner taking things to the next level in terms of cooking versatility. And performance? Well, let’s just say there’s an interesting interplay between the thermocouple experiments and real-world grilling tests that you have to see for yourself. In fact, our entire Napoleon Prestige 500 grill review is something you should see for yourself! We’ve done enough talking, so scroll up, sit back, and enjoy.

    Chef Tony Matassa grew up in the restaurant business, starting in his family’s New Orleans eatery before running one of his own. No wonder he has such vast knowledge of and passion for food science, which he puts to use every day as our jack-of-all-trades (and master of many). Longtime fans of the channel know Tony has been testing grills for more than 10 years, though we’re partial to his performance in our recent Grillabilities℠ series.

    I bought this grill from BBQGuys just over a year ago and it has been absolutely fantastic! I plumbed in the natural gas version, and the convenience has been a game changer. Everything about the grill has exceeded my expectations after 20 years with my trusty Weber, and the real surprise has been how much I've enjoyed the rotisserie (I cooked our past 2 Thanksgiving turkeys on it and it was delicious!).

      My Weber grill, after, 15 years, finally gave in - the cookbox cracked at the hinge to the lid so I can no longer use it. Apparently, the cookbox isn't covered under the 25 year warranty (back in 2007 when I bought the grill). I'm considering this as a replacement, but I'm wondering if this needs to be plugged in or something for those LEDs or other accessories to work other than the rotisserie. I'd understand that you need power for the rotisserie, but for the other parts, it'd be annoying to plug this in just to cook.

    My neighbour and I have had Napoleon 500 RSIB grills (not Prestige but generally the same grill without some leds and such) for about 10 years now. Napoleon stands behind it and the only thing I've changed is the flavour bars. Napoleons do run a bit hot though. It's hard to cook low heat without setting up zones.

    thanks for the info, im in the market for a new grill and while doing the research on all the competition it seems like most other brands dont even really come close to the napoleon grills interms of features and value for the price. i do have 1 question though, are you able to remove the grill head and install it into a built in countertop? Iam in the process of building an outdoor kitchen so i would use the grill cart at first but later on i would like to build it into my kitchen.

    I grill. Literally 3 to 5 days a week and live on the coast. I have watched as my Ducane has outlasted quite a few Webers due to the corrosive environment over the past 15yrs. It's going to be sad to let her go but it's finally getting due to be retired. Can I expect the same longevity from a Nepoleon stainless grill?

    • @BBQGuys
      @BBQGuys  Před 2 lety

      One thing to consider: While this grill is built tough, and backed by a strong warranty, Napoleon Prestige Pro grills are not "all stainless steel", which is what many customers are shopping for nowadays. Along with the stainless steel components on the grill, you will also find cast aluminum and porcelain enameled steel components too, such as cart legs, back panels, etc.

    • @meatcan
      @meatcan Před 2 lety

      weber and napolean offer a bit different cooking styles because of their difference in heat insulation

    • @drzoidberg1
      @drzoidberg1 Před 2 lety +8

      There are some differences. The Weber Genesis does not have a rotisserie burner. The Weber sear station is just a regular extra tube burner and is in the main cook area as opposed to on the side. The Weber has an external tank with a visual shield. This opens up more storage inside the cabinets. The Weber burners are not connected so if one goes out it will not reignite but the gas still flows. The Weber are 3 burners with the 4th burner offset for the sear station so the cooking zones are different/asymmetrical. The Weber does not have a lifetime warranty. The Weber has 9mm stainless steel grills vs 7.5mm on the Napoleon.

    There are some good features, but there is so much smoke it kicks out literally right into your face, it makes it almost impossible to use sometimes. Stop taking money from your brands and shilling an inferior product - actually call out poor design where it's warranted and hold brands to account.

    I really wanted to buy one for a built-in kitchen. But I just don't understand how a freestanding one with the sear station can cost the same as a inset one without additional items? Just boggles my mind and makes me wonder about the company.
