    Hi there. Greetings from South Africa! Tattoo artist here and I rescue bunnies myself (I don’t tattoo them however) BUT I would like to give some tips on the tattooing part if I may.
    Use a tiny bit of Vaseline or ointment on the skin before tattooing. This helps the needle glide into the skin easier and prevents the ink from “running” all over the skin surfaces so you can see the lines more clearer you already did. Also it helps to wipe excess ink off easier with a paper towel afterwards and prevents dust and germs getting into the freshly tattooed parts. Do this everytime after you’ve wiped the area before going back into the skin. Very very thin layer is needed.
    Then the last thing. That tattoo pen is VERY noisy! Please invest in a more quieter one. Even the ones used for PMU (Permanent Make Up) is dead silent and you will most definitely be able to use those to mark the bunnies ears as well. I’m sure the noise is freaking them out more then the actually tattooing. I mean I’m cringing listening to that machine so I can imagine what it must sound like to the poor buns.
    There is a lot of dead quiet machines out there to use that is very affordable.
    Then I would just like to thank you for your very awesome affirmative videos. I’ve learned a lot from them 🤗🌸🐰

    I also love how your bunnies are so calm and don't thrash around at all while you handle them! Is this just the way Silver Foxes are or do you handle all of them alot while they are growing up? We finally got a trio of Silver Foxes a few months ago and they are so calm and sweet! They don't thrash around at all. They seem to enjoy being handled and always want attention the moment they see us(I absolutely love them

    Thank you so much! Please what are the dimensions of your diy velcro wrap...I would love to make one! I tattooed off an old video on CZcams and the rabbit's ear still hangs down like it is damaged. In my defense it jumped several times and even though I had a friend holding it and wasn't beating down on the pen. It's been over 4 months😅 I used the numbing spray. I think we hit a nerve.

    • @TealStoneHomestead

      If you held on tightly to the base of the ear, sometimes you can break the cartilage, which may be what happened! I bought my bunny wraps from All Things Bunnies. It is about 15” long, 12” at the top and 16” at the bottom. I would recommend going slightly bigger if you tattoo breeds similar in size to silver fox!anything 7-8+ weeks old barely fits 😊

    Hi Tiffany! I am buying the tbtatts tattoo pen, im just wondering if i should buy extra replacement needles or not! Cz somebody will be bringing my stuff on hand from the US to Lebanon so I want to make sure i have everything included in my package! How long does each needle last?

    • @TealStoneHomestead
      @TealStoneHomestead  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Mary, I would definitely recommend buying extra replacement needles. I typically replace the needle after 10-15 rabbits.

  • @totallynottedbundy2965

    I Love this so much, I bought the same pen after doing lots of research and found this video perfect to help me. I don't know if you still look at comments, but does the length of needle differ from rabbit sizes? I have Polish and Tans and I'm scared to death im going to go too deep or go though the ear.
    Also I use an old sock I cut to help secure my polish, does that work? I haven't tattooed anyone yet because I'm worried I'm going to do it wrong.

    • @TealStoneHomestead
      @TealStoneHomestead  Před 3 lety

      The length of the needle does not matter 😊 only thickness. For smaller breeds I would use a 3 point needle.
      I would not worry too much about going through the ear. I go a bit heavier handed and I’ve never had that happen! Even if it did, it is common practice for those who use the clamp to go through the ear. It should not do any physical damage to the rabbit. I’ve never thought about using an old sock, but that’s a great idea!
      If you’re scared, practice on a banana peel first!

      @TealStoneHomestead  Před 3 lety +3

    • @TealStoneHomestead
      @TealStoneHomestead  Před 3 lety +4

      If you’re getting a bunny wrap from All Things Bunnies, I would recommend a medium for buns under 8 weeks and a large for anything over that 😊
      An ear tattoo goes in the left ear and is any series of numbers or letters that you want it to be (no symbols or other characters). Tattoos are necessary for showing.
      Registration numbers go in the right ear. Registration is acquired by taking a rabbit to a registrar who looks the rabbit over and confirms it to meet breed standard. Registering is only necessary once you have several show wins with that particular rabbit.
      Hopefully this clears some things up! For 4-H, your daughter’s rabbits just need a tattoo in the left ear 😊

    • @s4ta440
      @s4ta440 Před 3 lety +1

    Hey friend! We acquired some pedigreed bunnies, and their tattoos are really faded, can I go over them again? And I have one buck who’s tattoo is in a really bad spot (the tip of his ear), absolutely tiny and super faded so it can’t be read. Can I move it to the center of his ear or will that be a disqualification in shows?

    • @TealStoneHomestead
      @TealStoneHomestead  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello! Yes if they are faded you can definitely trace over them. As for moving the tattoo, hmm… that is a really good question. You might be able to get away with moving it depending on how noticeable the other one is. At a normal show, most judges really appreciate an easily readable tattoo more than anything. If it was me, I would probably give it a try. As for number systems, I really don’t have one! We’ve just been counting up. But lately I’ve been thinking more and more about creating an actual system.
