i have ALL the questions!! haha!!! breed I have NO idea!! they have been living under my sisters house for a year or so... full story is on our vlog! lol we brought them home not knowing she was pregnant and found 11 dead babies a couple mornings after :( I am thinking either she didn't feel safe in the makeshift set up or pappa killed them... they are currently living in the horse trailer! she has food water and straw bedding... also put a bucket in there sideways to nest if needed... this seem semi ok?? lol ~Trish
I thought I heard her gunting and her breathing was off the charts poor baby was probably crazy out of her mind. I have 18 buns currently and alot look alike and I was looking for ways to identify them but this is just barbaric. I had a rabbit get clawed in the ear by my cat which in turn caused a hematoma had it drained by a vet and it got infected and he died from it. I would never intentionally cause trauma to a animals ear.
Enjoyed this video. TRYING to make the quantum leap from clamp tattooing to pens! Which brand of tattoo pen did you use for this video? The skin-marking pencil is a nice addition.
Oh my gosh, I love you! Your enthusiasm is so infectious! I’m preparing to tattoo some of my rabbits for the first time. I’m all nerves. Even though I have 26 tattoos myself. 😅😬
Do you have a preference of the clamp vs the pen? I showed as a kid and we did the clamp now as an adult getting bck into rabbits, I'm questioning what to get.
Dude... you have way more patience than I do to be able to so calmly and rationally engage with the trolls. Kudos to you for being able to do that, and do it well. Also, great video. It's nice to see the tattoo pen in action. I'm trying to decide between the clamp or a pen for my litters as well as finalizing a numbering system. (I like yours. Especially since I find myself naming my breeders.) I am absolutely amazed at how calm your rabbits are. My Silver Foxes are pretty docile but I can't picture them sitting for that. Keep up the videos!
This is an awesome video - I truly appreciate your enthusiasm and excitement to teach others! I have been looking for a great video to share with my 4-H'ers, and this one is amazing to explain the process of pen tattooing. Thank you!
How old are your rabbits when you tattoo them? I have New Zealands kits on the way and wanted to show them next year, but I don't know what age they have to be to tattoo them. I'm guessing it has to be early, but how early? Also, where would I get a tattoo pen/kit? Both the mother and father of my kits are already tattooed from their breeder, so I didn't have to tattoo them, thus I don't own one.
Elu Niabi they can be tattooed at any time. You can usually find some one at the show that has a tattoo pen the day of the show if needed. Here is the link to where I purchased my pen. www.grizlygiant.com/store/c5/Grooming_Aids.html
Thank you so much. It would probably be easier for me to tattoo at a younger age. And thank you for the link to where you purchased your tattoo kit at.
there are pros and cons with each age. The younger rabbit is easier to handle but sometimes their ears are not as thick which can cause them feel the tattooing a little more. each rabbit is different.
I love the video and I like the simplicity of your numbering system. What do you do if your pair made 7 kits and 5 were female? Does your system distinguish between different litters?
Rocket Xavier yes my system has evolved over time. After the 1st litter the litter will have 4 digits. Dad-mom-litter number-kit number. As for is I have 5 of 7 being female it happens and I have felt wit it in a number of different ways. Nothing has settled as a perfect solution I just make sure I keep good records.
Loved this! In Australia we get issued ear numbers or we can purchase BRC leg rings. Leg rings are preferred. The first number is the year they were born, letter is for their ring size and there’s two more numbers for ID. Example: 21E04
Silas Borck, well thank you. I do spend a lot of time with my rabbits and they have gotten to know me quite well, but they are also breed to be very gentle rabbits as well.
I used to use the clamp tattoos for goats and looking at it it's just utterly painful I would just so much rather use a tattoo pen the vibration of the pen helps with the pain idk
Thanks for the video. I find it helpful. Haven't started my rabbitry yet, but doing all the research needed to put things in place. Appreciate this Benjamin.
TATTOOING RABBITS IS COMPLETLY FINE!!! you people are saying how they don’t want it, but they don’t care! And we’ve developed the pens to be as hygienic as POSSIBLE!! And it’s to tell rabbits apart! Which really could help with health- I do have a rabbitry and I wil not be responding to any hate BECAUSE I ACTUALLY KNOW ABOUT THIS KIND OF STUFF
We were also told to put a divider between them at day 15( they live side by side in separate cages) cause if she can see the buck she will kill the babies ...any info on this ?
@@matthewpirrone3801 not in a sanctioned show. In county fairs they would probably allow for a sharpie but if points are scored in a real show towards grand championship the ratio would have to to be permanent.
I subscribed to your channel based solely on the way you are tactfully and politely replying to trolls. Thanks for the great the video, getting ready to tattoo my first litter.
If you find a rabbit breeder near you they will tattoo your rabbit for you! Trust me I was really scared to tattoo my rabbits but it turned out it didn't hurt them at all! They didn't even move. But if your rabbits are skiddish or if they are pets and you are not going to use them for breeding I would not recommend you tattooing them
I first do a two digit number to show gender then the first two letters of their name then the last two numbers of the year that they were born example: 21CH18
Can't agree with tattooing any animal but it's your choice, not the rabbits of course, but then I think the best place for a rabbit tattoo is on your own body.
MELexi-Marie Wilson-Davies we are part of the food chain. You can choose to not eat meat but you can no more make humans not eat meat than you can make a Fox not eat meat.
Elfie W I find your comment interesting. Not sure what to think about it. Are you saying that it is cruel to tattoo an animal because they are not choosing to be tattooed but a human is making the choice to get a tattoo so it is not cruel? By that logic anything that a person or animal is subject to that is unpleasant and they do not choose for them self is cruel, right? I don't think I need to give examples to show how quickly this logic would fall apart? It is my guess that most people would not consider giving a child or a animal medication, (even with them fighting it) cruel. My guess is you will say there is a huge benefit with giving them medication and so it is different. To that I say maybe I should explain the huge benefit that tattooing has for rabbits. This video was not designed to explain why tattooing is crucial for rabbits. My purpose in this video was to show how it is done. Designed more for those people that already know the need for tattooing but just don't know how to do it.
MELexi-Marie Wilson-Davies my bunnies do deserve the best. I am not saying that my rabbits couldn’t do better than me but I do put a lot of time and energy into them. Obviously there is something you don’t agree with. Please explain what causes you to say this.
Tattooing them is not right. And skinning is disgusting. I am with my friend and we're both rabbit lovers and we find this horrible. I came here cause I clicked on baby rabbits open their eyes and I looked at your channel to see if you had any more baby rabbits vids and found this horrible and disgusting behaviour. Hope someone does it you and you see how it feels. 😩😩😩
I am truly sorry that I have offended you. I raise rabbits first for show rabbits, and next for meat rabbits. I know that rabbits can make wonderful pets but that is not why we raise rabbits. Rabbit meat is one of the healthiest meats you can get. Rabbits are cute and if you have a pet rabbit I can understand how the thought of eating your pet would be offensive.
I'm sorry if I'm coming across horrible but I'm highly against anything to do with rabbits other than having them as a pet. And yes I have 2 rabbits.. 1 of them is only 19 weeks tomorrow. BTW you have offended me.
She didn't seem to mind the tattoo process too much it seemed! We are about to have our first litter!! Any suggestions???

DoubleKnott I really like the pen much better but that is because I am more used to it. I have used both and both work.
How do you manage if the name of mom or dad start with the same letter?
This helped me a lot! Thank you so much for this video :)
quick question: iv seen people use numbing sprays, do you and if so what do you recommend?
How often do you change the needle? How do you clean the gun?

if you putting that in the ear doesn't that hurt the ears because of the sound?
Thank you. I'm trying to work out a way to identify my pet rats. This popped up. Thanks for the ideas.

thanks for your comment
When and how should we check to see if our doe is pregnant..we had 3 fall offs upon breeding 9 days ago ..when should I put a nest box in for her
Melissa Melton you can check for pregnancy at 10-15 day after breed. I put nesting boxes in 28 days after breed.
We were also told to put a divider between them at day 15( they live side by side in separate cages) cause if she can see the buck she will kill the babies ...any info on this ?
Melissa Melton that is not true. She should not kill the babies because she can see the buck

You could use a numbing spray or cream to make the Bunnie more docile while you tattoo her
I was going to put rabbit in a show but the I found out you have to tattoo them and I think I’ve decided against it
You can draw in their ear with a sharpie for the day too.

what kind of ink did you used??🤔🤔🤔
omega 18 it is tattoo ink that came with the tattoo pen.
It says fine pigment black tattoo ink

I think it's better than a clamp
Definitely is

No numbing😪

Benjamin Goodson hi do you live in utah?
That’s not a tattoo pen loool
