    Great video, thanks!! Im brand new to this. Sorry if this is a stupid question- but what do ear numbers mean? What do they have to be? Are they officially given to the rabbit when its registered or does the breeder decide?

      I think you just gave me my next video 😅 so in short they can be anything you want but only letters and numbers. And you come up with the combo. For me I do LL (this is what I call my breeder identifier but not a must you can also have the identifier in the rabbits name on the pedigree) then I take the last character of the bucks ear number and the moms ear number and then they go in sequence after that. But some people just put the rabbits name in their ear.

      Yep you can. This video you commented on explains the "what" of starting them but here is my playlist with all the pedigree videos czcams.com/play/PLWpnSAXSX3z1eQqrdsziHHVPVZD6jLYQQ.html

    I often see ads for rabbits that ask one price for a rabbit or a higher price (usually $10-$15) with a pedigree. Why would a breeder ask more for a pedigree?? The pedigree is already there for the litter. How much effort is needed to print a copy for each rabbit being sold?

    • @LeahLynchBlog
      @LeahLynchBlog  Před 2 lety

      This video explains how they work and why you would want them. czcams.com/video/mvostoORj1g/video.html If both parents already have a pedigree they would have to make it for all of the babies individually. The price you mentioned is pretty much the lowest you're going to get for any breed. But if you have a pedigree and even an ID number tattooed in the rabbits ear you immediately increased the value. You could get $25 for the same rabbit. Even more from the right person if the confirmation is good. Pedigrees give the rabbit legitimacy and proof that it is purebred. Assuming that it was filled out correctly.

      @@LeahLynchBlog I think you misunderstood my question. If a breeder is selling a rabbit for $50 with a pedigree why would he be willing to accept $40 for the same rabbit without a pedigree?

    • @LeahLynchBlog
      @LeahLynchBlog  Před 2 lety

      @@zone4garlicfarm ok yes sorry. He shouldn't but if he is then he is trying to make a quick sale. Then he is also opening up the thought process that he is flexible on price. Which leads to dickering and and trying to push for less.

      I sell without a pedigree, for a lower price, for pet only homes. Thats why most breeders would do that. If you want to breed them, you pay more and get the pedigree.

    What if i do all of that with correct information but refuse to get my rabbit tat ?Any ways around it !?

    • @LeahLynchBlog
      @LeahLynchBlog  Před rokem

      You don't have to tattoo them. They only have to have it to show them. So just assign your rabbits a number for that space.

      @@LeahLynchBlog So i just invent a serial number/symbols for my own breeding group even if they are not register officially for show. So i put that invented number in my books/computer to keep track of the lineage ? Wow that more simple that i though if it just that ! so it just to identify just in case and keep track if a client want some information ect .I was about to think that it was illegal to invent a number for my rabbits 😅

    • @LeahLynchBlog
      @LeahLynchBlog  Před rokem +3

      @@funnygaming2672 yep that's it. Just only use capital letters or number. Nothing else. Some people do the rabbits name if it's not to long. I will put my initials then the last character of the sires ID number, then the last character of the Dams, then sequential numbers after that. So I can have a good idea were they came from.

    What do you mean by the parents name?

    • @LeahLynchBlog
      @LeahLynchBlog  Před 3 dny

      Oh pedigrees there needs to be a name for every animal listed on the pedigree. It needs to the full name and stay consistent throughout its life if used for breeding. If one person uses the animal and sells it the animals name still needs to be filled out on it's offsprings pedigree the same way even if the new owners rename it.

    I came to rabbit breeding from the show dog world and was shocked to see how easy it is to falsify information on a pedigree. With dogs, there is a central registry that keeps records. With rabbits you are taking the seller's word for everything. Be sure to buy from an established reputable breeder.

    • @LeahLynchBlog
      @LeahLynchBlog  Před 24 dny

      Yep. It's crazy and honestly I wish the arba did do that and they kind of do when you register a rabbit. You have to file with them and it takes 6-8 weeks for them to check everything. I've had people contact me to fix pedigrees where they know the rabbits came from me but people just made up the color names. Like blond for what was a fawn
