Thank you so much for making this video, I'm slowly getting into homesteading but my biggest problem is going to be attachment. I know that I need to set boundaries, especially not naming them, etc. but you really gave some excellent reasons that I hadn't thought about before. Thank you for breaking it down yet still being sensitive for those that may struggle. Instantly subscribed! ❤
Yay!!! I'm so glad. I would also start with something you think is ugly 😂 it helps get practice.
@@LeahLynchBlog 🤣Thank you!!
I love this tracker! I entered in my egg count for 2023 just to see how I did counting by hand and I added wrong for my yearly total!
Thank you for sharing!!!!
I'd like some really soft thin light colored cloth during these freaking HOT and MUGGY summers.
Definitely would love to find some tops like that. They are not easy to find though.
Growing food is definitely not about being cheaper than the grocery store. That will never happen. Your statement makes it sound like you don't grow food. (This is my first time seeing your channel so I don't know your history.) I agree, more people need to go into country living with their eyes wide open. It will cost you more time, money, and energy than you realize, definitely more than living in the city. The full benefits of country living can't be measured in currency or in this life. It is a complete 180 lifestyle change for every member of the family compared to city living. That doesnt mean you have to or will be able to do a 180 overnight. It can take a lifetime, but it's worth the journey.
You're definitely right about not saving money but I do see people who just jump in without budgeting or counting the cost both with time and money. Then they end up so stressed and running in circles. Which is a whole other kind of unhealthy.
Totally get it!!! ❤
Might just be my opinion and don’t mean to be rude but it’s very distracting and rude to do a video while chewing/smacking gum. I had to stop watching which was disappointing since I wanted to learn to learn so much from your video.
Thanks for your input. I'll keep it in mind. The main goal with it was to keep my mouth from getting dry while talking so much 😂 .
I dont know if you will reaspond to this but, I have a bunny and he is losing fur on his chin. Im sure its because of his dewlap being wet because i noticed it being wet. Ive cheacked him and his fur didnt turn green or anything. I made sure to dry the spot but so far im stilll really worried about him. Hes acting normal and everything its just scary. Is there any sort of ointment i can use or do i just make sure the areas dry? Can bunnys lose fur because of a wet dewlap? I came across your channel while trying to find solutions
Hey, so it could be because he is rubbing his chin on things to mark his territory. Or if you know it's because of the water it could be because he's drinking out of a bottle and it's running down his chin as he drinks. This is one reason I use a bowl for water.
@@LeahLynchBlog I cheaked on him this morning and his chins not as wet anymore. Its actually dry now. Later on I did catch him hovering his head over his water bowl though. I went over to see if his chin was wet and it was. Also yeah he has been running around marking things too.
@@randomkeayamain the territory thing I unfortunately isn't something you can stop. But if it's not wet and there are no lumps (abscesses) or funny smells then you should be fine
@@LeahLynchBlog okay thank you. He doing well so far.
What do you mean by the parents name?
Oh pedigrees there needs to be a name for every animal listed on the pedigree. It needs to the full name and stay consistent throughout its life if used for breeding. If one person uses the animal and sells it the animals name still needs to be filled out on it's offsprings pedigree the same way even if the new owners rename it.
great video thanks❤
Glad it was helpful ❤️
My rabbit got pregnant for the second time the first litter didnt survive but this litter shes actually been caring for just dont know if shes feeding them please help they are warm and look healthy but not round like yours
Hey I'm so sorry I just realized my reply to you did go through. Here is a post that has pictures of under-fed babies. leah-lynch.com/are-the-kits-baby-rabbits-getting-fed/
Hello Leah! I sent you an email on your website, please take a look :)
Love your channel...great advise!❤
Awe thank you so much ❤️❤️
I saw one of those annoying youtube shorts with the sappy music and the narration talking about how a guy had been feeding a doe and she showed up one day with her fawn to proudly show it off to him. She isn't showing off her fawn to you, she brought it because you dump out buckets of corn. They like corn, not you.
Oh my gosh. 100% people just don't get animals sometimes.
All i see is two farm dogs looking at a chicken! By the way i see tons of human behaviors in domestic dogs when i visit the parks here with my nephews and im actually paying attention to the animals behavior towards humans.....You sound pissy though. Here's some food for thought muffin, i see dog breeds with way more intelligence outdoors then some humans!
Everyone is welcome to their opinion 🙃
@@LeahLynchBlog Mine is stinky i know
They are trying to hypnotize the chicken to lay an egg. The cow has a beef with the dog. I had a Boarder Collie, he ate a lot; he was a real hog.
Haha love this.
@@LeahLynchBlog Thanks! That's why they call me the Genius.
BORDER = boundary, Boarder = a roomer
It's Gen Z spelling. They also spell the word that means the opposite of win "Loose".
Helpful! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Boarder 🤣
Border
Yes!! Anthropomorphizing animals drives me nuts.
Great advice!! 😊
I've watched the play list and I could use an explanation of how to grow the history with a breeding triplet, ie starting from scratch
So you're saying a video on how to grow your rabbitry with a trio? Definitely will add that to the list.
Yes please. The typical trio is 1 buck and 2 does. But one of my does turned out to be a buck, oh well I love lemonade
I came to rabbit breeding from the show dog world and was shocked to see how easy it is to falsify information on a pedigree. With dogs, there is a central registry that keeps records. With rabbits you are taking the seller's word for everything. Be sure to buy from an established reputable breeder.
Yep. It's crazy and honestly I wish the arba did do that and they kind of do when you register a rabbit. You have to file with them and it takes 6-8 weeks for them to check everything. I've had people contact me to fix pedigrees where they know the rabbits came from me but people just made up the color names. Like blond for what was a fawn
So you don’t have to stitch it up?
No you want it to heal from the inside out. Or you will risk closing infection.
How long after you drain it can you go back in and do it again? My rabbit has a likely infected tooth causing the abscess and jt is huge under his chin. I drained it once but it’s back. They want $1000s for surgery so here I am trying to do it myself. Just not sure how long this cycle can/should go on? I’m hoping the tooth falls out. He is on antibiotics.
@@Pharmy2012 if you can do it earlier in the day and check it again at night. But I often have to get junk out for at least 2-3 days after. It's less and less each time but it's important to keep at it.
@@LeahLynchBlogthank you so much for this information! Do you usually go back into the same spot? Is it possible to have pockets where you have to make two incisions or should they all drain from the same spot?
@@Pharmy2012 usually one spot will do it but if there are two separate infections it's possible you will have to do two spots.
I love baby bunnies, they are so adorable! We have so many wild ones that are born in our backyard. Thank you for sharing, interesting video.
Babies are adorable.
You got to love her she very up to date on all these a woman like her would make her a great wife 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Haha well thanks. My husband hopefully thinks so.
My doe (who's pregnant) has one on her hip (hence why I'm searching this 😢)
Oh bummer. Is it on the upper hip on the outside on her hind quarters. Or under the leg by her belly? You could probably be ok if it was on her outer rump.
My vet drained it and we are doing 4 weeks of antibiotic. I’m at the end of the 4 weeks and it is still there.
Such a bummer. Any time I've had to do it I check every day and almost always have to get more out for a few days after.
what you said about them knowing if they need it is spot on. my bunny is very communicative, and i’ve learned how to read her pretty well. when something is wrong but also when she doesn’t need lavender, she’ll sniff it and be interested. maybe take a nibble, but she just goes back to her hay :) she knew what she needed all along lol
Yep! I don't consider myself a woowoo person but when it comes to reading animals you can fix a lot naturally.
You sound like you are on the verge of tears this whole video.
After 20 years of practicing protecting my heart it may seem cold to some people. But it's not helpful for others if I'm trying to help them cope with a fact of life if I'm showing up as an emotional mess. -- by the way your handle fits well😅
What state are you in
Southwest ohio
Ok thanks
Does this remove the abscess for good? Are you just removing the pus or are you taking out tissue as well? Thanks!
If you get all the infection yes it makes that abscess go away for good as long as your rabbit doesn't scratch itself again. I am only taking out the abscess not the tissue around it.
The chickens aren't safe from predators. That cloth needs to be hardware cloth.
If you are talking about the carpet in front of the stall door the whole barn is closed at night. And they are free range during the day.
Congratulations on your baby & new home. I look forward to see what you will plant in the herb garden.
Thank you!!! I'm really excited for it. I want it to be a blend of cut flowers I can bring inside too. I really need to get lavender in just to get it growing in case I have an issue with the rabbits. It's always been my life saver herb.
@LeahLynchBlog I have a very small yard & have lavender everywhere. You can never have enough lavender.
Great video, thanks!! Im brand new to this. Sorry if this is a stupid question- but what do ear numbers mean? What do they have to be? Are they officially given to the rabbit when its registered or does the breeder decide?
I think you just gave me my next video 😅 so in short they can be anything you want but only letters and numbers. And you come up with the combo. For me I do LL (this is what I call my breeder identifier but not a must you can also have the identifier in the rabbits name on the pedigree) then I take the last character of the bucks ear number and the moms ear number and then they go in sequence after that. But some people just put the rabbits name in their ear.
Happy to see you are back! Congratulations all around. With new baby as well as new home, looks awesome, best of luck!
Thank you! Glad to get back to making videos. I'm excited to make this place our own.
It's nice to see you back on CZcams. Your videos prompted me to open a facebook account and join two rabbit groups. Because of that I now have a waiting list of people who want my rabbits so thank you for that bit of advice.
That's wonderful🎉🎉🎉 I'm so happy for you!!!
what about when the abscess has already burst but not clearing up? can I squeeze puss out & drop lavender into the whole?
Yes treat it just like a pimple and add lavender essential oil into the wound.
Did you just remove pus?
Yes, he had a really small amount maybe the size of a pencil eraser.
Mine are starting to nibble on small nits of hay and pellets and drink some water. They have just turned 2 weeks and 4 days old so obviously they are still nursing. But I feel as though now they're starting to bother her so much every time they see her(unless they're sleeping) and immediately wanting to nurse from her and she seems to be trying to get away from them at times and jump on the box so they can't reach her (yet they can now jump on the box too), especially when all 7 of the babies come at her at once and want to nurse while she's trying to just eat her pellets and relax on her own. I do make sure inlet her out multiple times a day for a couple of hours to simply have some alone/relax time and so she's not being bothered by them every second shes in the cage with them. Do you think it's okay and/or best to separate her from them? Or just continue what I'm doing until they stop needing her milk and are all consistently eating pellets on their own?
She is probably producing a little milk so you could separate them and just put her with them once or twice a day. It's called "shelving". If she lets them nurse then keep doing it until they are 3-4 weeks... They should be able to be on feed without her by then.
How many times have you done this ?
Over the last 20 years probably a total of 10 times or so.
First, thank you so much for this! So many bunny parents are stuck on vet visit being the only answer. I have an adopted trio, adopted at about 1 year, have had the 3 boys for 3 years and they're still so skiddish and don't appreciate affection from us humans unless treats are involved of course! But I believe the stress of the vet doing this over myself would be horrible for my guy with the abscess. Also, they'd likely want to anesthetize him to do it, also terrifying but for me! It seems like a 50/50 chance they'll come out of anesthesia. I've been treating since the day after I noticed it with oral baytril for last 2 weeks and last night he started scratching at it. Its in the cheek/jaw area about marble sized. This afternoon came home to the horrible smell and saw that it ruptured. Freaked out, then found your video and breathed a sigh of relief! Have you ever tried using manuka honey to fill the abscess space? I've gotten it because of reading others stories about using it, but noticed you didn't. Any advice is so appreciated, but just the vid and comments about people doing this successfully have been answered prayers!
So glad it was helpful. I have not heard of the honey but if it works go for it. I've just not had a reason to try something new.
My kits are 11 days and just starting to open...been kinda cold. I was a lil worried because everything I was reading on it was 7 days so this helped! Thanks!
No 7 days is just a bit early and their eyelids are just starting to separate. The cooler weather slows them down a bit too I think.
You spoke of the fact that some people do things Ike dishes the 'old way' and asked why. The reasons are many. As for applying it here, times are changing fast and I'm glad I own a hammer over nail gun a woodstove as well as an electric cookstove a bicycle and a pickup and a life of doing fine with less.
It definitely makes sense in some cases when time is managed well. But when they are so overwhelmed with things that need to be done, doing things "the old way" just for the sake of saying that's how you do it. Is cutting off your nose to spite your face in a sense. But yes if the time is there then go for it.
🙏🏽🙏🏽💯💯
Thank you!
I’m definitely subscribing 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🔥🔥🔥🔥💜❤️💙
Thank you. It was hundreds and multiple visits just to do that. And we are broke now. So here we are. Thank you for showing us.
You're very welcome! I think more people need this stuff but creators are scared to do it because when people screw something up they point fingers if something goes wrong. ( Hens the reason for all the disclaimers😅) but even the budget aside if you can fix it why pay $$$$ to have it done.
Thank you. I've been looking for Evan's software to see what it looks like without having to try the demo. So this is very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
