  • Join me in this video as I walk you through how I make choices in which bucks to keep for breeding in the rabbitry.
It can be hard to let go of animals on your homestead but if you want to reach your homesteading goals you need to have a standard that every animal needs to meet.
If you are raising animals to produce a product what is the level they need to meet? If you are raising chickens for eggs how well do they need to produce to at least earn their keep? Make sure your livestock is the best it can be to measure up to the show standard for their breed. Use this video to help you set standards in your homestead.

Temperaments are funny. I got a very skiddish doe from a lady, and unfortunately her son is the same way. She has a lot of other good qualities so I will have to work it out, I decided. Then I went to a show and met the guy who bred my doe’s dam, and he told me “This breed is so hard to work with! I had one jump out of my hand off the table and ran away into the forest, gone forever.”
Apparently I have my work cut out for me! Luckily my other line is friendly.

Oh man, that is not easy for sure. How is the confirmation on the lines that are jumpy?

Her strengths are her shoulders and hindquarters and her compactness. She’s also an attentive mother. Downsides are she’s too fine boned and small, and nervous. I’m still learning when it comes to how sticky traits are, but I will at least wait and see what the third generation will be like.
