Over the years Ms. Eva has turned out to be quite the adventurer and documentarian. She has worked herself into a excellent story teller for the board home body's like myself. A real modern day Ernest Hemingway. The fact that she's charming and cute adds a little endearment to her endeavors. Keep up the excellent work Eva. I just might break open my Piggy Bank and become another of your many Pateron supporter.

I once vacationed alone at a cabin for about a week -- sometimes hiking, sometimes boating, but mostly just sitting on the porch reading the books that I'd brought to keep my mind occupied. Ultimately, I realized that I hadn't actually felt truly relaxed until the afternoon hour toward the end of my last day when I put the books down and just absorbed my natural surroundings. I wished I'd done it sooner.

I think that maybe, you where not ready to really relax until you did at the end of your stay. It take some time to completely forget all the stress and rhythm of our daily life. Reading books and the other activities you have done where probably necessary to attain the state of mind that you reached on your last day.

Eva, as a local from Cold Bay I’m so glad you went with this route to travel the Aleutians! I always always recommend this trip to anyone who wants to really experience Alaska. The history and connecting to the water is so rich! I’ve made this trip several times, in a tent, on a bench and in a cabin. All such a great adventure. My only edit to point out is Cold Bay is not actually an Island :) it’s the last town on the “mainland” 😄. Although it feels as remote as an island. Thanks again for the great footage!

In the early 1970's my mother lived on Unalaska, Aleutian Islands for a couple years when the population was just a couple hundred. She moved there by herself at 22 yrs old with a job lined up doing daycare for a little church. She lived in a one-room apartment that was made from a converted WWII army cabin and spent a season working at a clam cannery. I heard lots of stories growing up including the husky puppy she adopted that she swore was half wolf because of how massive it's paws were, haha. I'm looking forward to seeing this island through your eyes. :)

Many years ago, my dad made this trip . It was work related. He worked as a merchant marine. He was there for six months. During his nights of leisure, he would collect old burned-out match sticks from other mariners and literally make all sorts of things out of them. To this day, we still have a coffee table that he made from old match sticks. He was a storyteller . Thank you for

@evazubeck I have watched your videos for quite awhile. When I was young I had a very adventurous drive and travelled all over the U.S. and Mexico. Those are still some of my fondest memories. I don't think the average person can understand the freedom you experience on some of the adventures, and also a whole lot of fear lol. For me it was the excitement of the unknown. Tomorrow I turn 53 and am unfortunately home bound. I became very ill after my wife passed away in 2019 and I sunk into a deep deep depression and completely let myself get into seriously bad health. I am now on the tremendously long road to recovery and hopefully within a couple years I will be able to be out and about once again. I am living and re-living my life through your camera lens. I am so grateful to you for sharing your life and adventures with us. There was a video I watched of yours recently where you went to that town Jarbidge. It was in those places similar to that I grew to love my adventures away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities. I fortunately now live in a very rural and small town now about 35 miles from the nearest major town. Thank you so much for sharing and your video creation is 2nd to none. Please keep going and never lose that spirit you have. You make me smile every day. Thank you again and safe and happy travels. You have a real fan for life.

Hi Eva, thanks for showing us the Aleutian Islands! I live in the Appalachian forests of New England [in a secluded log kit home with my wife, daughter & our golden retriever & a black kitty], so I don't explore the US as much as I'd like to. Those mountains that you're seeing are volcanoes since the Aleutians are an island "Arc" formed by the Pacific Oceanic Plate subducting beneath the North American Plate. The magma that is uplifted to form the islands is generated by the heat of friction of the basaltic [mafic] oceanic plate moving beneath the North American Plate, which has more rock layers containing silicon dioxide [like quartzite & granite, the minerals of which glass is composed]. The western Pacific volcanoes of the Americas are similarly formed by this subduction of the Pacific Oceanic Plate. You are our favorite, most comely, travel hostess. I'm so glad that you are showing us these wild places, it's so much fun to watch your excellent videography & to enjoy your cara linda!

I'm astounded at how well you conveyed a 5-day ferry crossing, where the chief element was boredom, without the video itself being boring at all, Eva. In particular, now that you bring it up, I can't remember the last time where I had whole days of "nothing" to do. As I sit at my desk at home right now, I'm surrounded by stacks of a dozen projects I hope to get to, but aren't done yet. All those projects are completely exclusive of my professional life. Even on vacation, I can't seem to manage more than an hour or two lying on the beach, for example. No idea how life got to be that way, but I think it's something I should fix before anything bad comes of it. Thanks for the perspective. 👍

Actually I just recently watched another CZcamsr go on a ferry to Alaska, much like the one Eva is on, and there were many tents up in the tent area. I was so shocked to see that. It appears to be a common thing. But this particular CZcamsr had his own cabin, he had just stumbled upon that area as he walked around. So I found it interesting to see Eva's new video where she is actually staying in her tent on the ferry...getting a whole other perspective.

unironically of all the things you've done, this is the top of the list for me, I LOVE Alaska! I've been looking into buying land up there in the Kenai peninsula, the sheer ruggedness and majestic beauty is too much. and I love rough weather. honestly, it isnt the daily rain or the cold or the snow that bugs me, its the humidity. Im from the high desert, I never knew what real humidity was until I was up there, oh, and the damn mosquitos. but, besides that, I cant wait until I can start building up there.

A few years ago, I checked out the Alaska Ferries, Carnival, and Princess cruise lines... Found out that I could find a better price by sharing an inside cabin with the cruise lines!!! Had interment, WiFi, great food, heated pools & hot tubs, even someone to clean my room and even make up my bed every day, and the best of everything, even an in-room WC!!! Shared a cabin with a "Back Paker" from New Zealand with a tent, that had the same idea as I... The first Alaskan Cruise was so much FUN, that I did FIVE more cruises over the years!!! Cheers

Eva, FYI the very first winter, large scale, commercial fishing expedition to the Bering Sea occurred during the winter 1979/1980....and it was a polish fleet from ODRA company, Swinoujscie consisting of a few large, deep sea factory trawlers which dared to take risks with the violent, nasty storms and blazed the trail for the future american deep sea fishing industry.
The polish fishermen /crews flew in by a commercial airline to our vessels ( I was a student- trainee on the Otol) moored in Vancouver, BC,
a few days before Christmas ,1979.
I recall vividly that we left the harbor on Christmas Eve in the late evening. We left the protection of the Vancouver Island by the early morning, on Christmas Day and then it became very rough and stormy for the next 10 days while the vessels were slowly steaming through the Northwest Passage until we arrived near Kodiak, Gulf of Alaska.
First, we fished for 2 months in the Gulf, through January-February 1980. It was amazingly calm weather In the Gulf, with the seas as flat as a lake with many sunny, beautiful days to boot.
But the conditions changed dramatically when we went into the Bering Sea, in March 1980. The numerous, nasty storms were scary and life threatening...but we all survived without any mishaps and after 6 months of fishing/ work we returned to Vancouver, BC in May 1980 (never touched the land during those 6 months as we were offloading frozen fish/ fish meal to and were supplied / fueled by Soviet ships at sea) Ahoy!

Thank You So Much! I did that trip back a long time ago. We lost three tents the first day, (not mine, HA). Met cool people from all over the world on that ferry, some of which I still talk to today. That is one of the most memorable trips I ever took. Once I got to my port, I fell in love with AK, and stayed for seven years. Got hooked into the commercial fishing world. What a blast. Skippered a bit in the end, but it was time to go home. Defining period of my life, it was...

Eva, Welcome to the Aleutian Islands of Alaska! You have no idea how fortunate you were to have had good sailing weather as the weather and the seas in that part of the Pacific Ocean/Bearing Sea can be the worse! I was excited to see that you were heading out into the Aleutian Islands as I lived and worked on the Aleutian Island of Amchitka for 9 months. It's much farther out in the Aleutian Island chain, was and is still uninhabited. (I worked there as a Department of Defense contractor.) Yes, the Aleutians do have mountainous peaks and some have dormant volcano's on them. As you're finding out, there is a lot of history in the islands. You're fortunate to be visiting during the "summer month" of August since the weather will begin to cool off more as the months progress. It's not unusual for Anchorage to have it's first major snow in October. Have fun, stay safe, and stay warm! Oh, and don't go walking through the tundra grass as iron barbs were buried during the war as a defense against Japanese troops. They're basically an iron bar bent with a circle in the middle and stuck half way into the ground up to the circle and well hidden in the tall tundra grass. The ends of the bar are pointed. If you step close to one, the other end may impale your leg as that was the intent. One can never be sure that they were all found and removed. So, please be careful hiking through the tundra!

My son applied to work on a fishing boat last year and had to fly from Florida to Adak Island to pick up the vessel. They offloaded the catch in Dutch Harbor. He said it was the most amazing scenery he’s ever seen. Adak Island, he said, was hauntingly beautiful and the scenery from the fishing vessel making its way into Dutch Harbor looked like something out of Jurassic Park.

Dutch Harbor was the focal point of a struggle between the US and Japan in WW2. At first, Japan thought the Dutch Harbor operation would draw US forces away from the South Pacific (it didn't) and then Japan thought that they would hold on to the area as a spring board in case they ever mounted a North American invasion. It was for that reason that the US ended up putting on an operation to get Japan out of Alaska, period, to keep them from being a future annoyance.

Landing in Haynes, Alaska, I then took off (in the snow) through the Yukon Territory (which included Destruction Bay…. Ominous) and (unbelievably) made in through the deep snow on uncleared highways and arrived in Anchorage. I was young and crazy then…. At least you’re in the Aleutionsin te summer, my trip was. I worked for the Alaska Marine Highway for 20 years in the administrative department here in Juneau. In all that time I never got the chance to travel this particular route. I have been on board the Tustumena for familiarity tours when it made calls here to Juneau. It is probably the most spartan of the fleet as far a luxury is concerned. In the Southeast part of the system the ships are a little more lavishly appointed.

But, I brought for my kids and me. Plus at various ports, I bought food ie BBQ whole chickens in markets, fruit, veggies as we camped for 3 weeks with dog and canoe and 3 kids. Great vacation
