It truly is amazing how important that shoulder turn is. When you don't turn that shoulder, kick lacks power, intent, no rotation in lead foot, which leaves you somewhat flat footed, which could lead to you being flat on your back lol
sanchai would prove this all wrong
@@sk851097 fighters at high levels can break rules like that. They do it with a purpose to work around checks/blocks and not to telegraph and somewhat hide techniques. This is a video (short) that is meant to help fundamentals. I get what you mean though. Sanchai has done things outside the realm of technical knee throwing in and out of the clinch.
@@windchimesilo9623 pro fighters also have insane range of motion far beyond what most people have. Flexibility is hugely underrated by most people. The reason Saenchai can kick with that kind of ease is because his actual flexibility in his leg is much more than the minimum range of motion required for the kick.
@@user-yi9yb9nt6u dude I'm working on flexibility and losing weight now🤣🤣🤣believe me my high kick is only good enough for hitting someone's head that is 5'9" lol. I haven't done Muay Thai in 12 years and just started up again a couple months ago. N yeah I def agree with you on what u said👍
I have training today I’m going to try this more 💪🏽
I never really understood "Kick through" but saw a video last month stating to make sure your upper body faces the direction of the kick. It clicked for me.
Which video
@@stevethea5250 I think it was this one. I said upper body but shoulder is what I should have said. It was this and the comments.

Bro I literally just shadow boxed and tried pointing the shoulder…
thank you 🙏
lil tip when you rotate your shoulders and hips, the foot your standing on should also rotate about 100-120 degrees, if you understand this it allow you to put much more power into your roundhouse, another tip aim with your knee then release the kick rather than just swinging your leg, both these things beginners forget and if not taught you could injure yourself 😁
No don't release the kick, the whole point of muay thai kick is to drive the whole leg through like a baseball bat, this ain't TKD bro
@@user-ji7vn1ps8j it looks like he did aim wiht the knee and release the kick that last kick
lol thanks, now i understand what to do. I trained karate my whole childhood and techniques are 2nd nature to me in my adulthood after not training anymore, but want to learn the muay thai kicks for street fights without shooting high but disabling my opponent at the liver. I keep snapping my legs and I hear this analogy that in Muay thai, you have to" crush through" paired up with boxing techniques, I can dominate@@user-ji7vn1ps8j
@@SuperThesavageOne thing I noticed is that despite their claims Muay Thai guys do chamber and release their kicks like every other martial arts. The only difference is they don't release their legs completely.
@@o0...957 no lol, it only looks like that to you cuz u didn't kick the bag enough, depending on your style and body, some Thai fighters do the "keeping the leg straight kick" which generates more power at the price of speed (think long and short check hooks), others chamber but don't release (knee prevention maybe), by releasing your knee you disrupt momentum transfer, basically both kinda kicks use the same body mechanics when training MT, HOWEVER that's modern MT golden kicks are less readable cuz they started with a knee rise while rotating the other foot (shortest path to a target, straight line)to then release the knee, still MT way, swing through, what is really a big nono in term of technic is doing tkd/karate "snap-back", you literally swing your shin through them, then get your leg back to position, not by snapping it back but pushing your leg back against ribs/arms/quads, so yh despite your claim these MT artists know their art better :)
I'm a Muay Thai in training, thanks for the tip man!
I want to watch it over and over again but THE FREAKING MUSIC IS IRRITATING! Thanks for the tips, keep 'em coming!
100%
Luckily he put it all in text so you can turn it down lmao.
@@Alcatraz509 right! That's the way ;)
Noted!
Mute. 😁
The pivot is everything. Heel should almost point at your opponent, or else your hips are robbing power off the kick.
Every MMA fighter is a natural born physicist in my opinion. It's just wonderful how they've become master in calculating mechanic physics laws in a fraction of a second to deliver the highest force or speed depending on the situation.
Wonderful. Thanks for this tutorial
Stay safe
I agree lol I see things differently especially since I started training.
I needed this! Not even my coach showed me this yet
my tip is just think of your arms and legs as powerful springs. When you punch or kick, the spring jolts forward with power (depending on how strong you are but thats not the point), and when it makes contact it bounces back into position, not lazily, not forcefully, but like a recoil.
Thanks for the tip!
Also gotta remember half the speed of ur kick is getting to the target and the other half is putting it back so you can actually make this faster by improving your retraction and reset
Great video but could you have picked a better audio?
These are cool, straight to the point and critical knowledge. Tanks
My issue is my lazy retraction and that’s for everything I gotta work on it.
Ty
I swear it’s your hips that you turn and not the shoulder, the shoulder just kinda turns when u do the kick
I think the reason why is because if you turn your shoulder, your hips rotate into the kick generating extra power, but maintains balance. I totally get what you mean though and the two coincide with one another. Doing it properly is most important.
Yeah that's what I was thinking. I think the shoulders come with the hips in my opinion
@@windchimesilo9623 but usually just swinging the hand down as u turn ur hip, that pretty much turns the shoulder🤷🏻♂️
@@windchimesilo9623 and it’s the hips that turn, you turn your hips into the kick
Like you can turn the shoulder too but doing one doesn’t do the other
I was thinking the same thing, turning your hips
The lead leg kick is so f*cking difficult for me 😂😂
You are good trainer
Thanks Sean ! 💪
You bet!
Yeah!🙌 When I started, that was my problem. Rotating my shoulder to go with my hip, and bringing my arm back. I was bringing my shoulder and arm back😂🤷🏻♂️
Thanks
No problem
I love the way he looks like Alxander Volkanovski
OOWEE!! 🙏🏻
Alex Pereira 🗿
Kicks are my problem. I cant kick smooth. How should a "proper and clean* kick feel? I feel like the tin woodsman when I kick.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's all in the back foot.
You da man, Sean. Get it son!
Appreciate it!
What is the best book to learn on my own? What’s the difference between the not swinging your shoulder one and the correct one?
Awesome can you do a video on getting better at throwing knees and elbows ?
I’ll add it to the list! Thanks 👊🙏
Cool, only tried this for half a year and still can't get it right 👍
You're doing it but not mentioning pivoting your grounded foot too
Thanks volk
👊🙏
Alex Pereira has entered the chat..... 😅
Thank god, I haven’t been turning my shoulder as much. Felt like I was missing something
I struggle retracting quickly. How do you fix it?
I need that bag, where’s the link brotha
I don’t have them for sale unfortunately
I'm gonna try something
U forget to protect your head
So plant the foot for a low kick and rotate the ball of the foot when it high?
Yes
I m struggling with shoulder rotation. Can someone help me with some advice or a link to a video
I have a lazy retraction 😅
Honestly you'll know by the way the bag sounds when you kick it just right
I really liked how the Never Back Down movies put what you are saying into perspective. In the first movie the instructor tries to emphasize breathing and following through with your power. He throws a round house on the bag and it slides all the way to the end of the rail. Then in the second movie when the instructor kicks the bag it doesn't move at all but he put a hole in it and the sand started pouring out of it. It's about how you concentrate your power. Both were strong and effective kicks but I'd rather get thrown across the room than have my insides falling out 😂🤣
👍👍👍Right!!
SMH CZcams labels are covering the captions 😭
🙏🙏🙏
So the lead foot on tip toes and you rotate your entire body from shoulders to hips to shin almost like a rotate at full speed you simultaneously turn the lead foot while springing the rear foot up and force the kick through the target and retract back into stance
If you miss your definitly spining around exposing your back to your opponent
Can u help me perfect the kick please???❤
I keep trying but I can’t get the perfect one😂
It's in the ankle😊
What does the man in the video mean by retraction? I don't really get it.
Thanks seanfagan for the tips btw.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🔥🔥🔥
what did you put in the Bag?
I wish people would focus on the correct way instead of a cacophony of mistakes blurring the message out
Hola ,cuando sueltas el aire para golpear ,contraes o expandes el estómago? Saludos
What if ur someone who is flat footed which is me 😂
Bro put your foot flat on the ground 😊
Pivot from your hips not your ankles, try it out, big difference.
Make the technique your own
It’s like they say (turn your hips)
Aunque también es importante la dinamica para patear
This isn't perfect because you are dropping your lead hand, instead u should have hand (same side as leg that is kicking) extended to help hide the chin.
*turning the hip over*
Bring your hips onto the kick.
I cant get my leg up high and I always nearly slip
This requires supplementary work, not just practicing the kicks. Hip mobility and flexibility is huge.
Put all your power to your legs turn your hips as you kick turn your shoulder 90°not the same as your hips because after you kick grab the shoulders or your enemy's arms make him bend forward and proceed to knee his solar plexus trust me I'm trained for 5 years and trust you'll win every fight
When kicking I prefer to swing my arm, that's just me though.
Always full commit your roundhouse or it loses speed and power
Could this be the reason why my shins bleed? I wasn't sure it it's my technique or the bag
Maybe?
I just started muay thai a few months ago and am struggling with rotating the standing foot, feels like im stuck to the mat. Is it just sweaty feet can i fix it?
Im the same pal. Think its a right of passage im told. Keep practicing and keep correcting. Il told it will come eventually when the muscle memory sets
Hmmm 🤔, you might wanna try adding just a little teeny hop to your pivoting foot.
Or practice doing Karate SLIDE Side Kicks. These may help train your Pivoting foot to Pivot better.
Boxing with babish
I struggle turning my shoulder with the kick
Just keep practicing!
@@seanfagan certainly
Why shouldn't i be flat footed?
it's a kick based on the rotation of your hips, if u r flat footed u can't full rotate your hips and upper body which enables you to kick through with full power.
@@rabbitshady499 oh i thought he was talkin bout the other leg kicking with top of the foot
i've been training for 13yrs and i still can't get full return to stance from my rear roundhouse...
isn't that awesome? always room for improvement...at the gym in an hour drilling this...
Always ways to get better!
Keep your elbows bent and your arms up it doesn’t matter how perfect your kick is if someone destroys your head because you have a massive opening like this guy
If you watch 99% of all time great Muay Thai fighters you would understand that this is the proper technique 👊🙏
Are you supposed to protect your head while doing the kick or do you keep your head up@@seanfagan
I think that’ll put rod tang out
I get heat for this, but i never used real technique in sparing, i hit back as hard as i was hit tho, cos i never did hit hard in sparing i was taught its for practice to learn to find your spots work on defense ques offensive ques not fight, so i probably look like all the wrong ones, but my coach use to say i had this thing where i was meh in the gym it came to fight i was serious and dangerous it was like i wasn't listening in the gym he said, it was my adhd my sensory overload i was paying attention i was just glitching out 😅, but one thing he always drilled into us was sparing wasn't a fight it was a slow dance, but thos bags you brake it
Music ruins it
👍👍👍
🙏🙏🙏🇹🇭😊
Temach? What are you doing here 😅
100th comments 💯
i hate these kind of videos, it gives the muay thai keyboard warriors a chance to see how a muay thai strike is properly done, and then they'll find a non mua thai martial art video and brags about how they threw a strike wrong because it doesnt look like muay thai to them.
Not sure about the "avoid flat-footed" part. Seems like a detriment to stability and transfer of force to me.
Not just gonna quote my own teachers, but e.g. JC Skarbowsky advocates (and displayed in his fights) a flat foot with focus on straightening the support leg to give the kick from a more grounded support base.
But the hip turn is the key to the power of this kick anyway.
Each to their own
@@seanfagan That's fair 👌 Not saying you're wrong, just sharing my pov. Keep on with the great content though!
With 2-4 punches in your face, you can do...
You need to keep your right arm and shoulder kept by your face not thrown downwards with your kick

Thank you! Always great content. But that music has got to go!
K so chamber your round kick and turn your leg over like karate.
What happened to the straight baseball bat kick with the inside of the shin to collide with bone 🦴 that made Muay Thai different?
It hurts if u mess up lol
@@19382q not sure what your getting at
I was born with flat foot, so I cant do muai thai?
đó chỉ là 1 cách để sử dụng cú đá
No Hard hits 😂 you Need to curve it
What the difference 😂
You lost ala lot of muscle man! Everything alright?
Questo puoi dirlo a chi fa la prima lezione
Fun fact ,there is no such thing a 100 % or perfect as it leaves no room for improvement.
Didn’t explain how
Still TOO difficult ngl, I prefer straight kicks
Roundhouses are a lot more powerful
No veo mucha diferencia
Shouldn’t the heel be pointed at ur opponent
