I bought a brand new epson wf 7720. I installed everything by the instructions. Then I uploaded inkchip firmware and program for universal ink. It was installed until I installed the program then my printer started flashing and went into recovery mode. I can get it into program update but it goes back to recovery mode. Is there anything I can do?
The file to download the correction no longer exists. I guess Epson had someone take it down.
By any chance do you have this information for the EPSON WF-4720. Yours seems to be the only I can download. But I don't have a 7710 or 3720.
what did the printer do (or not do) before this fix. I get a mild grinding sound at startup, followed by a printer 000031 error and a scanner 100016 error
I couldn't find the 7720 or 7710 printer so I purchased an Epson WF-3720 Chipless Sublimation Printer, is this a good printer?
I have a 7720 mine hangs up and wont power off and reset. If I try with utility mode it says "rom not writable" no matter what firmware I try and use. I tried to downgrade and tried no chip firmware. I can recover it back to the most recent firmware only. I just bought it last week. Maybe new ones can't be updated. Any help would be appreciated. The problem I'm having is it recognizes the cartridges but it doesn't print yellow at all. It's brand new so it can't be a clog but I did a manual purge anyway. It didn't do anything. I got it to work for a minute by putting the initial yellow cartridge and then the sublimation cartridge. then it quit printing yellow completely again. I tried three different cartridges; nothing. These printers are showing up at some office depots but I don't think you'll be able to convert them. I think Epson has locked them somehow. This is the second one I bought in a month and the other one wouldn't work with magenta. Buyer beware.
I have an epson SX445W and i cant find the firmware i need anywhere will this work for mine? If no could you please make a tutorial on the SX445W??
Thank you for your information. I have a WF7720 and I was able to fix the firmware that Epson sent. Now I can use my refillable cartridges again. I did hook up the USB cord but I don't think that I needed because it had the option of downloading via by the cord or by the internet. Anyway thanks so much. I print tons of stuff, I sell patterns. So being able to use the refillable cartridges is very important to me.
I just asked him if it worked on a WF 7720. I updated the firmware straight out of the box brand new. I haven't tried converting it yet because of this. So according to your comment it worked on the 7720? And you did it via Wifi?
@@ginagarcia6695 Yes I have both the 7710 and the 7720. My 7720 got blocked after an update that I did and his fix worked for me. I will never do another update with my printers again, now that I know this.
@@ginagarcia6695 Have you seen one company called INK CHIP selling a firmware that just considers the ink level FULL all the time without checking the chip status? (a real chipless firmware).. they sell 5 keys for 35 USD.. anyone wants to split?

@@GuilhermeGomes2 Theirs doesn't work! My printer is stuck in recovery mode trying to InkChip's firmware! I'm trying to get it resolved but the customer support sucks! They respond "it should work" super upset!

I converted my Epson wf 7710 to sublimation and when I received the firmware notice, I updated. I tried your method, but I don't have a PC I have a macbook pro and I received an error message that this only works on PC's. Do you have anything for MAC. Also, before doing this should I remove the sublimation cartridges and put the cartridges that it came with back it?
Unfortunately, there is no mac version. You will need to get a PC to do this. You can leave the cartridges in when you do.

Here are the steps I followed, on a Mac but I think it would be almost the same on a PC…
1. Download older Epson firmware updater software for the WF7710. I found it on one of Epson's support sites.
2. With the WF7110 powered off, hold down the buttons 4, 7, and Job/Status at the same time while pressing the power button. This will power up the WF7710 into recovery mode.
3. Connect the WF7710 to your computer with a USB cable (if not already connected).
4. Run the Epson firmware updater software as normal (since the WF7710 is in recovery mode, the updater won’t complain about newer firmware already being installed).
5. Wait several minutes for the update to finish. When done the screen of the WF7710 should say "Completed" or "Finished" etc. (the firmware updater software said the WF7710 would power off when done but this didn't happen).
6. Unplug the WF7710 power cable, wait a few seconds, connect it again and power it on.
Note that this didn't remove or change any presets etc. I already had set up on the WF7710. But I wouldn't rely on that always being the case with every update.

This downgrade (or rollback) actually works. Thank you Manny! As Pam Unruh states, these instructions solve the problem on the WF-7720 as well. I tried about three times (as shown in the video) and eventually got a message on the printer's control screen that it did not recognize the cartridges but, actually, the previous problem using third-party cartridges was reversed. During that period following and Epson update, the three colours printed well but black type was broken and streaky. After you apply this fix, be sure to go to the Epson Software Updater screen and set future updates to "NEVER." I had actually scrapped an earlier (but not old) model of an Epson WorkForce thinking that it was unfixable, But probably, it too, had been rendered ineffective because of an Epson firmware update. I think that this is very unethical of Epson. Sure, they say that the printer works better with their ink but to "block" (it means to "damage" the performance) third-party cartridges without warning is sneaky. Perhaps, Epson should try to price their cartridges closer to what third-party suppliers are able to provide.
