- If you have an Epson printer, you may find the printer is stuck in Recovery Mode. This message is displayed on the product’s LCD screen and you will be unable to perform any actions until this issue is resolved.
This error occurs if the firmware update procedure is interrupted, e.g. accidental powering off the product, cables being removed or the installation is canceled. To recover from this error, Epson would instruct customers to update their printer with the latest version of the firmware. However, this method does not always work. I tried the steps for the 3700 series but it did not work

My printer won’t turn off at all to try the second mode unless I unplug it. So it’s hard to hold down all these things any thoughts?

Thank you so much for this remedy! Also, I found that the first method actually worked for me. The shutdown on the printer doesn't happen automatically after the computer completes its update. The power button on the printer started to flicker a bunch of times and I just let it sit for like 5 minutes and it then shutdown on its own. When I turned the printer back on it started up! Kevin, I have the new Epson ET-4760 with ink tanks. It does not have an "orange" button on the front of the printer in order to do the "4-finger" second method you described. How do I fix this new printer stuck in Recovery Mode?

Hey Kevin, I have WF 4740, and my printer is stuck on the boot screen. Firmware upgrade doesnt work and it doesnt have a reset button except the power button. are you familiar with how to fix this? is there a hard reset of the software on this printer somehow?

This also worked for my ET-4750! You do have to wait 5-10 minutes for it to automatically shut down after the firmware update, it won't change immediately.
Will this work for Epson Et-15000? Or what button to press on the Epson15000 printer. Its only has power, home, and help button on it.

Hello, I have a Epson Artisan 835. The unit will power on and start the startup sequence, however stops about 15 seconds into the start up and shuts down. The menu, display/crop, back button and home button flashes. I’m not sure what that means and was hoping you can help. Epson tech support was useless.

A friend of mine has the Epson L6570 printer and it is stuck on update mode but there are no firmware update files on Epson for this printer. Would you happen to know where he could download a firmware file to get out of this mode and fix his printer?

I figured out myself how to solve this, but starting here. The printer I have is a EPSON L475, the pattern to reach Update Mode was different. There is 3 patterns in total for different models. For me was Cancel+Left+Home+Power. I succeded at installing Firmware but nothing changed. After a lot of experimenting I tried something specific. I picked up an old machine with Windows 7, then I ran the Adjust Program for my printer with compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3 and finally I applied a "Initial Config". After all of that the printer is usable again 😁👍
I accidently turned off the printer while it was on firmware update.
now its not detecting through cable nor wifi.
upon connecting ti iWIC its says Epson MFP-IPL (Service Mode).

Hey Kevin. I’m trying to use the second method now with my WF7720 but the computer can’t find the printer (connected by the same cord they were 10 mins ago which caused recovery mode incident). Now the screen only says "Printer Mode" and will not connect. When I start back up using the method described, the screen says "Program Update" and will not budge. I just installed a new main board and feel like there is no programming on it...I was able to update the firmware though. Any thoughts?

Hey, Kevin what should be the problem if the recovery firmware doesn't recognize the machine connected to USB? My Epson ET 4750 is in printer inspection mode and the recovery firmware doesn't recognize it as connected. When I connect an another working ET 4750 via the same USB, the recovery firmware recognizes it and it appears as available for downgrade.

Let me start by thanking Kevin, if it wasn't for him, I'd probably just buy another printer. I have an Epson WF 2660 and I ran through "method two", three times before it worked. This is the second time I've had to fix my firmware update for Epson. Just like Kevin said in another video regarding Epson firmware updates, DO NOT UPDATE YOUR FIRMWARE, nothing good can come out of it. I've learn my lesson for good now, no more updates. In fact, I will not install any of their software, I'll let Windows manager my printer instead, or try the chipless printing method (Kevin has another video on that, czcams.com/video/eyGS7BnJozo/video.html. Thank you again for all you do, Kevin!

EPSON WorkForce Pro WF-C5790 key combination: 4 + 7 + Job/Status(i) + Power button. Then run the update from a PC. After the update is done, the printer will light up like a Cristmas tree (all lights blinking). Thank you very much for your video.

I did the firmware upgrade and the printer automatically turned off like the instruction said for XP-446. I waited after it powered off and nothing. I tried powering it on, but only the power button light comes on, not the little screen that controls everything. The screen remains blacked out. Prior to upgrade from Epson website, it was working aka letting me know it's stuck in recovery mode. Please advise.

Any idea what it means when an Epson ET-2550/C462R starts up saying "Printer Mode" on the display, and eventually says, "Flag check Inspection: ON Initial Charge: OFF Push [Power] BT" ? Mine somehow ended up doing this after I cleaned the print heads with alcohol and water and then let the firmware updater run. I've been trying find a service manual for the printer, but I can't find any reference to this model's tech manuals online.
I have the same issue with L4160. That Updater is so annoying and will eventually brick every single epson printer. so bad
if you manage to get to service menu (power+home buttons works for L4160) you will see that first menu is Printer Mode, second is Mecha Mode, third SP Mode. I went through them all (Printer Mode needed a "Jig" which somehow worked when I lifted the lid with scanner), after power cycle (no need to remove cable, I started start normally using only power button) and it went to Mecha Mode. I did all the self tests there and did another power cycle. Now the printer starts in SP Mode and so far after doing all the tests (last is ROM check) it still boots up to SP Mode. So the question is how to pass the SP Mode to remove the "Inspection: ON" to go to Normal Mode automatically. I hope to solve this as I passed all the test in SP Mode. There is also Develop Mode which I am checking now.
@@desortp Can you be a little more specific about the "jig" you mentioned? Mine comes up in PRINTER MODE when I press the power button, and the only other thing I can get it to do is give me the red screen with "Inspection Mode: ON" when I press power again.
@@desortp On my ET-2550, I found that holding Power, Home, Stop (red inverted triangle), and the Down arrow on the printer panel while powering it on gets me into the menu you described.
@@Culturedropout unfortunately I don't know what exactly is "Jig" in the printer but I suppose something mechanical or an object in the printer. I opened the lid and looked inside while I pressed OK for "Jig" somehow it accepted and did a test of the "jig"

yes hello... there is no way to get my printer out of the recovery mode..i dont know how it got into recovery mode.. it was fine and working the only thing it would not do is scan anythiong but it did recieve the pictures from the scan disk thing when i put it in..ive plugged it and unplugged it. left it off for 15 minutes and iut does nohng still
