- Rage Against the Machine name drop Mount Tai - that's how important it is! A UNESCO World Heritage Site and the highest point of Shandong Province, Mount Tai, or Taishan is the Great Eastern Mountain. 72 Emperors paid a visit to this mountain and as a result, it is full of temples and stone inscriptions - an amazing place to explore!
Today it is still a place of pilgrimage for millions of people, one of the most visited places in China - This is Mount Tai...

You mention in the description Rage against the Machine name dropping Mount Tai. Neil Peart the drummer and lyricist of Rush literally wrote a song called Tai Shan. It's on their Hold Your Fire album and it sparked my love and appreciation for ancient Chinese culture. Love your video. Thanks for posting !!

Dates to the Shang Dynasty? That's a long time. Been to Shandong but only Qingdao and the beer street. Limited time on L tourist visas means multiple trips over many years to get to even a small fraction of everything in China. An entire lifetime may not be enough.
Yep, i think on a tourist visa it is best to just pick a region/province and really explore it. A month in one province is a lot of fun in China

Climbed it Autumn of 1986. No crowds, no bus or cable car options, no lattes. Still plenty of folks made it to the summit for sunrise as pilgrims have done for 2,000 years or more.

@@nickinchina2552 Simply someone who got the China Bug earlier than most. I spent a year teaching in Beijing in the late 1980s. I like hiking so I climbed Tai and Hua Mtns. I visited the WuTai Shan area late winter 1987. I wanted to climb Emei Shan but got sick the first day I arrived so I only made it half way. Now you are more likely to find me in Japan as I met a beautiful Japanese woman while in China who I eventually married. Cheers. I just found your channel and it's wonderful.

Thank you for your detailed explanation of Mount Tai. This is a very important cultural landscape. In the long history of the kingdom, outstanding kings always hope to climb to the top of the mountain to enshrine Zen, so as to demonstrate the rights and merits of the monarch. Not far from Mount Tai, there is the former residence of Confucius.
I will save Qufu for another trip. Maybe outside of summer holidays...i imagine Confucius' hometown will get rather busy during summer...haha. Thanks for you lovely comments!

I climbed Emei mountain a long time ago (before i started making videos) - i will go back at some point for sure. The Yellow Mountain is also on the list!
How long did it take you to climb up and down.
Not that long, about 3 or 4 hours to the top i seem to remember. Brutally hot though!

For such a sacred mountain, it looks a bit… hell-ish
Super busy. it is easily the most visited of these 5 mountains - pretty wild!
I was there so shortly after you and I climbed it in a similar time. Intense humidity! But I loved the experience. The “weirdness” (surreal experience to me) improved it.
So weird having shops all the way and being so busy, but I can’t say I didn’t benefit from having some cold sugary drinks to give me energy.
The litter was the worst part, that said with that many people it’s sort of what I expect. There were loads of bins full and I think a fair bit of waste must just overflow. It is a shame though. A better system than the poor guys and gals who carry all the litter up on down on their shoulders on bamboo sticks would be nice. They are the most impressive people on that mountain!
The reward of the stunning views at the top goes without saying.
I had a really wonderful time in China, I am definitely going to go back.
