I lived in China for 2 years and trip to Tai Shan was the very first I did. I was invited by my student. We started the hike at around 6:30am. Reached the top few minutes before Sunset! We took cable cars going down. :-) it was a memorable trip. This was 2008.

And I'll manually recommend this video to you(czcams.com/video/-HSkPpU5iWU/video.html ). It's about the Ganzhou City, which is regarded as the city of the Song Dynasty, for it has preserved many things from the Song Dyansty including the city wall, streets and a creative underground drainage system.

The Song Dynasty was born crippled. 16 prefectures along the Great Wall region including Beijing were given to the nomads before the establishment of the Song Dynasty. The North China Plain was facing direct threat from the north. Yet, the Song military power was the weakest throughout history. Three nomadic people (Khitan, Jurchen, Mongols) raided the Song Dynasty. Majority people living the north China plain were massacred. It's very difficult for the Song emperors to get high rating in this background. That's why in the Ming Dynasty, after the Mongols were ousted, the Great Wall was built. A lesson learned from the Song Dynasty.

Our chronicle speak of thousands of step towards the heavens. It's written that leng don sent his sons khon long and khon lai down those steps to rule the earth. This makes our people are the original inhabitants of that place, tai people that is.

When people don't know the history and stories of Mt. Taishan, the name wouldn't make sense to them. That's why I made this video, to bridge the information and culture gap. Thanks for watching the video!
