EXPLORING China's Western Xia Dynasty!
The Western Xia is a mysterious part of China's history. Lasting from 1038-1227, the Tangut people created a new dynasty to rival the Song, Liao and Jin dynasties and eventually went toe-to-toe with the Mongols.
In this video we will explore some of the remains of this dynasty, from emperor's tombs to pagodas deep in the mountains! Enjoy!

Thank you for this video. It is a really interesting documentary. In this increasingly complicated world, it's interesting to note that there have been other imperialist societies than those of the Western Europeans that have done some pretty awful things. The "ethnic cleansing" of the Western Xia undoubtedly meant the murder of millions of people and the enslavement of millions of others. The Mongols reach was long throughout medieval history, eventually extending to the subjugation and enslavement of India, before the Portuguese, French, Dutch and British.

The Mongols hunted down the Xia people for a hundred years to avenge Genghis Khan’s death. The Xia people ran and hid for a hundred years until they crossed the Himalayas and settled in Nepal. The sherpas are the descendants of the Xia royalty. Till this day they don’t give their last names, last names are only shared when a marriage is arranged. I was at the tombs some years ago, it was the saddest page in Chinese history.
