As for a monster truck I would build, I would probably go with a run-down looking 70s to mid 80s tow truck for the body and give it the name "Junkyard Dog" or "T-Wrex".
You reminded me of junkyard dog from Twisted Metal Black
There was a monster tow-truck back in the day, could really tow trucks too.
"Bob Chandler, was soupin' up his 4x4, and he created a monster like never before...."
Another functional tow monster truck was the big tow and later renamed evil force. It was a 1979 red ford.
I had the VHS tape with that song you’re quoting :)
The part about the crowd roaring when he first did his stunt almost made me drop a tear
One of my fondest childhood memories is when Bigfoot came to our local Fairgrounds. He-Man and Skeletor were there too. For an 80s kid it couldn't get any better than that.
I'd name mine "The Iron Chode" and have a Chevy Cavalier put on 15 foot tires.
15 foot tires don’t exist
And if you had them specially made it would be
Over $60,000 each and you’d need electric generators on each one
To move it
And you’d need the parts to fit them
Reality sucks I know
Why does everyone hate the Cavalier? There have been FAR worse compacts.

Let’s see the history of past 80s trucks, and how they started and ended, or are currently
My buddy is building a square body on leaf springs. All 80s tech. Things badass. I think he said 64 inch tires? I felt like a kid again climbing up the thread to hop in the back.
Modern Marvels had an episode way back when that went through the history of a majority of the bigfoot stuff. Like how bigfoot 5 was built and all that. Would recommend checking it out if you can find it.
Me and my best friend always played with monster trucks back and watched monster jam back in kindergarten and preschool and now I’m 17 and I still love messing with my old toys thanks for the memories donut

Is it weird that I got a little choked up watching this? Been a fan since I was 5 and saw my first War of the Monster Trucks VHS and those old monster jam clips really took me back!
When I went to UTI, they once brought Grave Digger to the campus to let us check it out. It was roped off in the parking lot but it was still a cool sight to see up close and in person. Had never seen a real monster truck before then, let alone all the way up close like that.

Excellent work Nolan, definitely one of my favorite episodes.
Of course, we can never forget Bigfoot's appearance in the 1981 movie, "Take This Job And Shove It." That was my first exposure to monster trucks.
Waiting to see the comment of a guy saying
My Ford ranger could do that 😤
WhistlinDiesel proved that he can't

well Bob Chandler in 85 did build Ms. Bigfoot later Big Foot Ranger, first appeared as Ms Bigfoot and originally raced by the sports first female driver and Bob's wife Marilyn. Since I was a big Bigfoot fan in the 80s, on a couple family trips we stopped at the BigFoot HQ near St. Louis, remember seeing Ranger there along Bigfoot 5 and others they were working on in the shop

I remember being a huge Bigfoot fan back in 1988, I got to see a competition in 1991. I remember the trucks being unbelievably loud, I had to cover my ears even though I didn't want to.
I remember monster trucks in America being a big thing in Australia even in the late 80's. BigFoot was known by every kid, we used to draw pictures and buy hotwheels to play with at school. It had a huge impact globally, I think monster trucks speak to our inner child in a very visceral way.
I liked the format of this, going back and ending where we started was super satisfying!

I was at that show in Jax in 2010. Was absolutely crazy to see when no one was expecting it.
So was I. I remember 70,000+ people coming UNGLUED !! I was yelling "HOLY SHIT !!!" when Cam pulled it off.
Bigfoot of course, I was a kid during the early years and dreamed about having an RC truck that looked like it
Traxxas makes them now.
I have one...
I broke the wheel >.
I saw my first Monster Jam show within the past years and I loved it. Despite being an adult.
My father, much like James' father, did not take me to Monster jam despite endless empty promises. And I am legitimately surprised that it took up til 2010/17 for the first back/front flip to be landed respectively as the show I watched in '19 all the trucks seemed to be doing that to some degree
This was such a great idea for an episode. Thanks for following through, doing the research, as it was very well paced and edited.
I'm not a huge fan, but I was born in '78, absolutely loved Stompers toy trucks as a kid, and I did live in the pacific NW for a few yrs... IMPOSSIBLE to avoid Mud Bog races and Monster Trucks.
Snakebite was awesome. As a 13yo aussie kid in 1997, the Monster truck madness game on the PC was HUGE. The coolest truck was the one with two big fangs in green and yellow. Snakebite just sold me. Bigfoot and gravedigger were a close second, but nothing had the menacing looks or body lines of Snakebite.
I want a peugeot 205 monster truck. I would call it "the little Rascal"
If i owned one i would call it "Lazy kid" as beck - loser as it's theme song.
YES!!!! THIS IS MY EPISODE!!!!
My crawler project is definitely Bigfoot inspired.
We call it Mongo, named after the blazing saddles character. My original plan was to use 40s for cost effective crawling, but the 54" Maxxis tires are pretty tempting.
You don't know how cool these are until you actually visit a show. Even if don't really care about trucks, they're still crazy awesome. One reason they're cool is because of the noises they make.
The body snatcher. Every time the body is destroyed grab a different one and paint on the name.

Monster trucks was introduced in my country in the early 90's. Back then we only knew them as 'Bigfoot'. It doesn't matter what it's name, if it's a big truck with enormous wheels, it's a 'Bigfoot'. That's how strong the impression that 'Bigfoot' gave to kids like me in the 90's.
Dude, you making me remember things I saw on TV in South Africa when I was 9 years old in 1986....

Thank you for acknowledging Bigfoot! To many people have never heard of the team because Monster Jam won't let them run in their events.
Who hasn't heard of Bigfoot?! I grew up with Bigfoot, they made the sport. All my friends thought Bigfoot was synonymous with monster truck.
Well, when Hot Wheels launched their own series; called Monster Trucks Live, they added Bigfoot as their second flagship truck alongside Boneshaker.
amazing story telling
I’m from Missouri, when I grew up I saw big foot or a copy by the highway on display in hazelwood. Most people don’t know there is also little foot, about the size of a regular truck lol
They moved them down to Pacific a couple years ago. They parked the copy of Bigfoot 5 in the parking lot of our local grocery store

When I was a kid Snakebite and GraveDigger were my favorites. GraveDigger is still a favorite along with SonuvaDigger. Kinda surprised you didn't mention Dennis Anderson and the legacy of his sons in the sport, specially considering he drives/owns one of the most well known and oldest still driving truck names in the business GraveDigger.
If I was gonna build my own truck I would probably try to do a D&D themed truck and base it on a well known creature like a beholder or the tarrasque. Or maybe turn the idea I had for a 70's mural van into a monster truck, the side would have a mural of Slave Leia laying at Conan the Barbarian's feet while he points his sword at Saruman who is playing a pinball machine labeled "Middle Earth" and the back glass of pinball machine has Frodo and Sam climbing Mt. Doom with the Witch king in the air on his fellbeast. Might just call it Nerdom.
This is definitely been one if my fav Donut videos. My dad took me to monster truck shows when i was Two and I ate it up.

I can't afford to build a monster truck, but I still wanna jump stuff. That's why I got my raptor lol
Hey donut, thanks for the video but there are some mistakes aside from calling ,Mike vaters from black stallion, the wrong name. As for the 1st bigfoot car crush, that was 1981, the one in the field. A few months later it was done in Columbus Missouri and the one that launch bigfoot was january of 82 in the silverdome. But bigfoot was started officially in 74. Also the first man to be photographed while on top of cars was jeff dane with a mid 70s ford called later king kong. Jeff did the car crush prior to bigfoot and bob but bob capitalized on it first. Bob’s truck was the one called a monster truck 1st, therefore it IS the original monster truck
I also question that 92 was the first year MT racing was televised. Due to the fact I was watching them race on TV in the mid 80s
