  • Fasting has been gaining popularity in recent years to promote weight loss and improve health. Intermittent fasting, in particular, reduces inflammation and improves insulin sensitivity, preventing chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.
In a Nutritarian diet, Dr. Joel Fuhrman is confident that incorporating fasting doesn't only jump start weight loss but also slows down aging.
To maximize these life-saving benefits of fasting, it is important to approach it with knowledge and caution.
And you may start right here.

The importance of information in this podcast is mind blowing! I`m sure glad I watched this video. Over the years my bad eating habits have created many problems to my health. Listening to this man has helped me eliminate many issues including diabetes, high blood pressure, inflammation, poor circulation, reduced respiration function, and the list goes on. He enables us to understand the causation of our medical issues that are directly connected to our diet. I highly recommend to everyone to follow this man. My life is so much better thanks to Dr. Fuhrman. I feel better now at 67 years old than I did 30-40 years ago! God bless this man and his family. Thank you Dr. Fuhrman!

The most important reason that I know Dr Fuhrman is giving the best medical advice is because I can see that it is important to him that we NOT depend/be reliant on him or any doctor. He empowers you and gives you the tools to maintain your own wellbeing.
Most doctors give you pharmaceuticals and regimines that keep you needing them on a regular basis.

I was inspired to try fasting one Thanksgiving because I had learned that in Boston it was originally a day of fasting rather than feasting. Now I do periodic water fasts for the potential longevity benefit. I enjoyed reading Dr. Fuhrman's book on fasting. I also read Herbert Shelton's writings on fasting. The main fasting side effect for me is that time slows down because you do not need to deal with food preparation. I take Dr. Fuhrman's advice about taking it easy during the fast, typically just reading about fasting and listening to music. Cheers!

Thanks, I'd love to see more fasting content from vegans because it's sorely lacking on YT and in general. I'm thinking of starting a channel bc I don't know many vegans/WFPB who fast, but I've been combining WFPB with fasting for 3+ years and it's the perfect combo and amazing! I'm looking forward to learning more here.

Thank you for this excellent video... I have the book here and was reading it this morning, but decided to see if there was a video on water fasting... I have never fasted on water longer than 30 days and my most recent water fast was two years ago and only for 16 days. As I have been experiencing some joint pain and digestive issues recently, I decided it's time for me to do another extended water fast. I do have quite a bit of weight to lose, so I know I will not begin starvation if I do 40 to 50 days of fasting... I want to eliminate inflammation, and detox while losing fat on this fast. I am 77 years old. After my 16 day fast I had lost 15 pounds and I have not gained it back in these two years, so I am hopeful if I do another 40 days I can get down to a normal weight and keep it off.

Whole foods plants based eating is already culturally a huge step for most people. It's no wonder doctors don't feel comfortable adding fasting to that. And I guess many people don't need it to get to basic health.

You can also fast to discover how well your metabolism is working, whether you feel weak, dizzy, or maybe you discover energy. In the process you learn your character strengths.. It's an interesting endeavor that I could do as a teenager every few months for three days or so but these days I can't go more than 8 hours between meals.

Be careful with the fasting. If you are obese you will lose tons and tons of weight and your gallbladder too. When you're fasting your gallbladder does not empty regularly. And your body is using your own body fat for energy, which makes the liver produce a lot more cholesterol in the bile of the gallbladder. But your gallbladder is not being emptied because you are fasting regularly to lose weight. This leads to the formation of gallstones and gallbladder disease. The standard treatment is to remove the gallbladder. Don't say I didn't warn you.
