Awesome review!
This is the boat we are looking at. Nobody local has them on hand right now and the soonest will be late August
Awesome, in depth review. Thanks so much Will!
You're welcome! We love this new hull!!
Fantastic review will! Best review on CZcams for this model, hands down!
Thank you! We have a unique perspecitve on these boats since we typically only review boats we've bought.
Great video thank you! Very helpful for shopping and ownership.
You're welcome
Great Video! I will be picking up the exact same boat in a few weeks. You helped me make the decision!
Awesome glad to help
Excellent! Great on the details!
Thank you!!
Keep up the great work I found you channel with 7k followers and now at 11k I’m subscribing, and glad to do it
Awesome, thanks for the Sub! We love what we do and here lately we've been working super hard on making the content better.
Great in depth video I’m getting mine end of June
Awesome, make sure all recalls are done. Enjoy!
Great video!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
You're welcome
Love the review Will, thank you! Put down a deposit on a 222SD this weekend for a new 2024 with the 1.9 engines, excited to be back in a yamaha after my seadoo switch (which is a great little boat, but just not the same fit/finish or fun)
Awesome enjoy!!!
I have a 2018 FSH Sport and it's a great boat, but do with that Yammy would've have thought of these "upgrades" prior to building mine :)
Hey Will! Waiting for delivery of a 222SD was wondering what the dimensions are of the cooler as I would like to be able to fit my yeti tundra 65 back there but want to know if I’ll need to get a smaller one? Also was wondering if you knew whether or not the SD will have a subwoofer and tower mounted speakers as well or if that’s only on the XD? Thank you for an awesome review and walk through video!
Because of this video - I’m purchasing a 2024 222SD next month… 🤘
Awesome thanks we love our 222XD
hi man, i hate jet boats, and they are illegal in my country.. but after your review i am "about to buy it" :) one of the best reviews ever. u started from stepping on the boat, continue to comfort and seating, mentioning safety and proceeding to details, finishing with storage of the boat. i simply enjoyed watching review on the boat i dont like :) how many try shots of video u made to make it such complete, logical and informative? very well done!
Thank you! It took several days to get the footage and another couple days to edit. Also we own this boat so we have a unique perspective compared to other reviewers.
@@JetBoatPilot he man I just want to know why you cant run dock lights in open water?? im a beginner
@Fresh az I is Fresh az I is it is blinding to others who rely on their eyes being dilated. Boating at night is tough. If I were you I'd have a chart plotter for night navigation.
Great review! Excellent job covering all of the details. Yamaha should have had you review the boat at launch. I love the hinged seats, wireless charging, drive mode, and deeper rear storage.
The one thing we would want over our current 2016 212x is quieter. I see 90 decibels at 6000/6500rpm after some sound deadening. That would be something that would keep us from purchasing another Yamaha.
Thank you, we were asked to review once, back in 2012 at the launch of the first Ever 19 footer and all new 21 footers (at the time). We'd be honored to review at the premier if asked again. We'll work on a noise level video soon. I can tell you this boat is significantly quieter than yours.
Sales at dealerships should start taking notes. This guy sales the boat better than anything I've ever seen. Hopefully I'll be out at shell island the weekend of the meetup. My family was out last year and were the only outboard for probably a 1/4 mile of beach slammed with boats. These guys have got it going on.
Beautiful boat with many features, great design. This is a great in depth review, awesome! What happened to all the storage space from previous 21’?
Wake boat with drive feature consumes much of that storage space.
@@JetBoatPilot seems to me that the new design the way is done eliminated a lost of areas for storage, having less then the 19’. The boat grew quite a bit, which is nice, but became less practical in regards to storage.
@@htenthusiast2897 I agree. Storage was lost and I'm not happy about it
Great review, Will. I had a 2014 SX192 but sold it as it was a bit small for our lake. (I put Thrust Vectors on it and the maneuverability around the dock and launch ramp was great). I am considering a 222 for the additional length and ability to handle a chop. I had the opportunity to sit in one at the Toronto Boat Show. Love the layout, but one drawback I noticed was the grey inserts on all the seatbacks. They stick out and I found them really uncomfortable, putting pressure on a small area of my back.
I'm looking forward to your comparison and review of the noise level that you mentioned in another post. It was annoying on the 192. Thanks!
We'll do our best to do one of those this season.

This is the best review I have seen. Yamaha should be paying you.... with jet boats 😄
I second that!
Love these reviews!
Thank you we have been putting a lot more time and effort into these Productions over the last month.
Any experience with wake surfing/wave quality with the 222xd as of yet?I have the exact boat on order. Excellent review! Thank you
@David Miller we're planning one soon. Water is a bit cool for surfing but we'll look for a warm day and give it a go!
We will be using it in salt water as well.. Chesapeake Bay Area. Any feel of how this will handle chop in the bay? Nothing crazy but 1-3 ft swells? I like the deeper freeboard, should help.
We boat in a coastal environment and have seen average chop between one and three and it has not been an awful ride.
Fantastic Video! Looks like an awesome boat, but the storage is a huge bummer. Especially if you get a surf model.
Surf models do lack storage that's for sure!
Nice review! So how's the wake surfing on it?
It seems like it's open enough and has enough cup holders you could decently do some casual fishing from it, too.
We have not surfed it yet. The water is just now getting warm enough to surf. We'll get that soon.
Great review. I have a 212X and looking to upgrade to the 222X. Looks like they forgot the armrest for the driver and passenger. Big letdown for such a great boat. Hey Riva, please make a custom 222X with superchargers and armrests. Thanks for the video!
I miss the arm rests too!
biuy piçñíc boat
Well done sir
Its possible but not as likely as a video that we shoot in the day time due to lighting. Videos shot at night typically don't show well.
Looking for to the video about the Conext System chartplotter/Navigation system... I saw another video that mentioned it was a Simrad base system... not sure it was in error...
To my knowledge the Yamaha Connext screen is not a simrad. It is another brand and I'm not sure which one you might have. I believe they used a brand called Actia for a while but not 100% sure that's correct.
"and thats fun, but dont do that"🤣
Enjoyed the review and walk-through. I really wish Yamaha would have made a version slotted between the AR220 and the 222S with the 1.8L but not all the luxury items so there was a more affordable way to get the 1.8L engines. I fear the 220 models are underpowered with just the TR-1 engines. People complained the 210s were underpowered and now the boat is even bigger.
I understand that. The 1.8s are definitely the way to go.
@@JetBoatPilot Appreciate your videos. I can't ever find a comparison of the 1.3s vs the 1.8s. I know there is a pretty substantial boost, but I have young daughters and will be on a reservoir so not a long of space for high speed. Struggling to justify the price for 10 mph or so. We are pretty practical people. Love the new 22'.... Oh any my wife loves the bench, not the second captains chair.
@G W if you plan on surfing and you or your surfers weight over 200lbs you'll want to strongly consider the 222. It will have the power to maintain 11.2 mph while loaded down with enough ballast to create a wave tall enough to push your heavier surfer.
wé7ñg
can you swing the surf board racks in with the bimini up? it looks close to the chrome arms.
Yes I believe so
Having X Drive on our new 222SD, if it necessary to add any thrust vectors etc?
Yes 100%! And Lateral Thruster too. The only boats that don't need the fins and LT are the Drive X boats and helm master boats. We had a 222XD a few years ago with Drive tech and it benefitted greatly from adding our steering enhancements.
Why dont you explain more about the engine featires. Id like to know why?
What are the two chrome vents near the swim platform speakers?
Blower exhaust for ventilating the engine room.
Thanks for the review! You said the "clean out ports" are #2 reason people buy the Yamaha Jet boats. What is #1?
In the past it was overall value. The price, in the past, was so much lower than a comparable I/O powered or Outboard powered boat that Yamaha simply outpriced the competition. Today that is not quite the same story, although a Yamaha boat is still considered a value brand in my opinion. I'd say today, the main factors that drive Yamaha Boat sales are the integrated swim platform and the huge amount of storage each boat offers.
I would love to see some videos of the wake this makes. I'm placing an order on one and that's something nobody covers. Size of wave, shape of wave, the process of switching from runabout to wake surfing/boarding. Stuff like that. Nobody has covered or even shown the boat making wake outside of yamahas commercials.
We have when promoting our JetWash Deflectors. We'll do one soon.
@@JetBoatPilot I've watched that one. I haven't seen any for the new 222 hull design though! Keep up the good work! love the videos!
@@natebait88 ok will work on it soon
I am interested tested in this. I ordered one as well but can't seem to find any videos on the wake... then again... it is winter :(
Is the location where the table was mounted on the back deck the only place to mount a mobile grill?
Yes from the factory
Dual jet drives are everything for Yamaha and the Industry from Jet Ski to this at the moment as the pure BEV upends entry level and creates loyal brand followers with immensely higher customer satisfaction true dat as implied here. Pricing is not where the US economy is at at the moment but Yamaha has been commanding premium pricing for so long in this segment...well, only Bombardier seems wholly unimpressed if not oblivious.
I can see my little kids rolling out the center of this boat other wise its a nice boat
Good ass review, thanks. I’m in the market as a first time boater just my fiancé and me. We plan on having kids in the next few years. Would I need this or would the ar195 suffice for years to come?
They say buy your second boat first. Many buy the 195 first and within 2 years upgrade to something larger. I'd suggest you think about the number of people that you'll be taking with you each time and also consider the type of water you'll be boating in regularly. If you're in a small lake without lots of big waves and big boats churning it up then the 195 could be a good choice (5 people or less on a regular occasion). But if you're in a coastal area or boating on big water or boating with more than 5 people regularly I'd suggest a 21 footer at minimum.
@@JetBoatPilot thanks man. I’ll look into that more
buy this boat
Wife and I just bought this boat today. Can’t wait to get it out! Haven’t had much of a spring in New England yet…
Do you know if there’s a cover available already for this boat?
I think there is but not sure of inventory.
Waiting for delivery of mine, this exact boat and color. It'll be my first jet boat. My dock has at best 43" of freshwater, soft bottom but with small pebbles, some leaves and occasional acorn at the dock. Considering the intakes at the bottom of the boat, any concern about idling in and out of a space like that?
You'll be totally fine. You can safely idle at knee deep.

Man I seriously wish they would update the 19 versions with more free board. These 22’s look incredible but too much boat for my 6000 lb tow rated vehicle.
Are thrust vectors available for the XD (Drive) models? If so, would there be any advantage to adding thrust vectors in addition to drive?
Yes we have them on ours and it's a huge help! We also have Lateral Thruster 2.0 too!
@@JetBoatPilot Ok great! I'll grab some from your site this week!
@@rustedfruit9870 awesome thanks!
What made you pick the 22ft model instead of the 25ft being so close in cost? Trying to decide on 222s vs ar250 for lake use. Thanks
We buy the newest model for video purposes every year and usually sell them 12 months later
@JetBoatPilot I see, same question, for that 70k price point, is it worth while to step up to the ar250 or the 222s for fam of 5, lake use.
@@LancerNik13 I think it is. There is no replacement for displacement! Get the bigger boat if you are going to have a crowd of 7 or more on an average outing.
Man I was super jealous of the size gain of the new years. But my first opinion is that my 17 212x looks like it has double the storage. Most of these compartments look smaller and filled with mechanics and electrical.
True, the Wake boat is not really very practical in terms of storage. I wish some of those mechanicals could be stowed in unused space.
@@JetBoatPilot still a really nice boat and good review!

Just salt water here. Will there be problems docking a jet boat in salt water for the season 4 months. Thats my only concern before I buy one. Thank you.
Yes, major problems. Never leave a Yamaha Boat in salt water for more than 3 or 4 days. Barnacles will grow on your hull, jet pumps and even in your engine's internals. Get a lift or store at a dry stack marina.
What's the fuel capacity? What off shore range in miles do you estimate?
75 gallons. Not sure the exact range but we ran it at about 80% rpm (40mph) for over 2.5 hours and still had fuel in the tank.
I just purchase a new Yamaha boat do tower speaker only turn on when boat is on and moving or they suppose to be on constant even with engine off with the other speaker are on? haven't had time to take out in the water to test it.
Should be on as long as you have that zone selected in your speaker settings on the connect screen
@@JetBoatPilot all zones are at 100 no sound tower speakers guess ill have to take it back to my dealer
Are the engines reliable? What is the horsepower per engine? Is the maintenance DIY?
If there is one thing that Yamaha is known for its reliability. They some times run a year or two behind the curve in terms of technology and innovation, but you can be sure of one thing when it comes to a Yamaha. When you turn the key, the engines are going to start. On this boat the engines are 180 each. All maintenance can be done DIY and we teach much of it here on this channel.
3 Yamaha dealers by me and nobody has any boats, lol. Would love to upgrade to this boat from the sx190
Many dealers do. You may have to travel to get the one you want.

Hopefully you guys fix that dumb software problem with the conex screen also I still see there screens and charger just fry in the sun lol
Whats the main difference between this 222sx and the 220 ar
Yamaha makes a 222S, 222SE and 222SD. These are higher horsepower models with $360 HP total power. The AR220 comes equipped with twin TR1 engines which produce a combined total of 230 HP. Also the 222 models have lots of upgrades such as upgraded upholstery, upgraded sound systems, and even some surf tech and drive tech. The AR220 is essentially an entry level 22 foot boat with a tower where the 222 models are higher line.
This makes it even that much harder for me to decide between the 22 FSH or 22 AR series.
We'll review the 222 FSH when it arrives early next year.

Does this have a ballast system for wakeboarding?
No it does not
What? I'm so confused. You literally just talked about the ballasts which can be filled from the touchscreen in the video, and then in this comment you said there are NOT any ballasts. Which is it?@@JetBoatPilot
@Kgflyboy on the 222X there are on board ballast. Any model that is not an X model does not come with ballast. Also it's good to add extra ballast if you want to increase displacement (wave height)
@@JetBoatPilot We are specifically commenting about this video... not other versions of Yamaha boats.
At 22:22 in this video you showed and discussed the ballast bags.
This is the boat in question, and it had ballasts, so I am confused why you responded that there are no ballasts when the other person asked if it had them.
Do you see why I am confused here?
@Kgflyboy there was likely a misunderstanding if I said that this boat did not have ballast. Yamaha makes several versions of the 22 footer, but only the X comes with ballast. Many will add extra ballast using water bags or steel shot.
86k !
The dollar doesn't go as far as it once did!!
will you sold me where and how much !
It's not for sale just yet, lol
I have a 2022 and not even 2 years since I got it the cables gave out and yamaha wants to.do nothing about it.... either cycle spring so real advice don't get this kind a boat is build cheaply and it doesn't ride good on waves small ones.may be 3 feet... or if you get it and have some experience never get the yes warranty, is more like a no os not covered... it lock right under a bridge ,thanks God I maneuver right away and got out.
I might have missed it but does this boat have trim?
No
@@JetBoatPilot Do you ever feel like you need it or wish it had it? The hull kind of has that drooping bow design like sea ray uses and i always see those getting pummeled with waves because of it.
@Xixu in rough seas it would be nice to have. But its costly and requires an expert to install so we've never pursued it.
nice boat,,,, wont think someone would ever have to change the spark plugs,, cars are good for over 100k ,,, boats would never come close to that amount of time i would think
Because of the moisture in the air for Marine engines it is best to change every 100 hours or once per year.
@@JetBoatPilot i hear ya,, ,way to lazy to do that thou lol

I think Drive Boats get the audio upgrade. The Yeti65 will be a bit big for that spot. I think the 35 is a bit small for that spot but the 45 might be a bit long. Is there a version that's a little narrower than the 45 but deeper?
