  • Stop Making This Painting Mistake! (Why Cutting Like a 'Pro' Might Not Be The Best Way To Paint) Don't be tricked by the 'satisfying' viral painting videos you're seeing. Learn a better way to cut in, and paint cleaner straighter lines every time!
We've all seen the videos. Someone grabs a brush and cuts a perfect line in the blink of an eye. Full coverage, straight lines, no mistakes. Seems to good to be true, right? Unfortunately, most of the time... it is.
Today we're showing you how easy it is to trick the eye with simple strategic camera positioning- and why its rarely the right choice to paint like this (especially if you're a beginner). We're also going to show you (again) a better, cleaner way to paint straight lines (without tape) every single time. No tricks. No movie magic. Just good, simple painting technique.
Just to be clear: there ARE professionals who really CAN paint like this, in a clean and effective manner. We are NOT saying that they're doing it wrong (or that they're being dishonest). We're simply trying to remind you that a lot of what you see on social media (or more accurately, NOT seeing) isn't all its cracked up to be.

Nice work! I have watched a lot of cut in videos and your lines are probably some of the cleanest! I'm glad I found it, I think the title kept it low in my search? Thanks

Cutting is easy if you know what it actually is. It's all about letting the bristles conform to the inside corner of whatever surface you're cutting. So you need a quality brush.

I take off all plate covers, cut in as best I can at ceiling then cut ceiling onto wall 1/8 of an inch with caulk and tape, best method for textured walls, which is majority of walls i do.you get laser straight lines everytime.

We take all outlet and switch plates/covers off. Its not appealing to the home owner if they ever want to change those covers. Then they see doo doo green paint from the 70s. I always take them off and before i put them back, i clean them off. And all screws go in the same direction. A freshly painted wall isn't as pretty with dirty covers.

Always start your cutting in a few centimetres below and work the paint up.

Pros do not cut using either one of these methods it only would have taken slightly more effort on the first methods would have been just as good and twice as fast

Anyone capable of painting the way you’re describing should definitely do so. Most people are not, and trying to paint with more “effort” usually doesn’t improve things. We think this is the better method for achieving a cleaner cut. Appreciate your input though 👍

It's not movie Magic you're just not that good at cutting in if you get that much paint on the socket covers

Great video. Out of curiosity… What brush are you using in this video?
