Personally this is the video I’ve learnt from.
All the others have millions odd views but this video done it for me.
Thank you very much.
That is brilliant news Bill, I am glad you found the video helpful 😊
Another excellent video with clear explanation about type of brushes and its pros and cons. Thanks for demonstrating the usage of brushes for various scenarios.
Glad it was helpful!
Many thanks Aubrey for covering something that has caused me grief many times over the years. I will try your technique which I am certain will finally get the beating of this task. BTW very much enjoying your videos.
Thank you for your kind comment. Glad to know that you are finding the video`s helpful. Hope all goes well with your decorating projects 😊
I'm a first time painter and this video has given me confidence that I can do a decent job. Thanks Aubrey. I'll invest in decent brushes i think.
Thanks Lindsay. Yes decent brushes make all the difference. Hope all goes well with your future decorating projects 😊
I was taught that it’s better to unscrew the light switch slightly and emulsion under it (just 1/4” or so) rather than paint around it. Yes, takes 30 seconds longer but produces a much better finish.
I don't think it matters to a professional painter. A good painter will be able to cut in around a fixed switch and it'll look the same as when it'd unscrewed. ✌🏼👍🏻
And Caulk!
@@dh7493 yeah but it matters if you do change the switch at a later date...whole wall has to be repainted to blend if you dont paint behind it..and yes people do upgrade sockets for a modern finish 😉
@@dh7493 don't caulk a light switch cover
@@basketballmaven1454 Easy enough to cut the Caulk with a knife.
it's up to you, if you remove it you won't have brush marks and it will be flawless, if you cut you will have brush marks and it could glue the cover to the wall
Very clear demonstration of cutting in. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! 😊
I'm painting my first place on my own something I've never done before in my life! So thank you truly appreciate it:)
You are very welcome Sarah. I hope all goes well in your new place and enjoy the decorating. 😊

great video ,Thanks!!

Whelp, so much for the "angle brush being a necessity" theory. Great video, Wethanksya.
Glad it was helpful!
That is a great straight line.
Excellent cutting video
Thank you 😊
Brilliant!
Thank you 😊
So greatful, thank you.
Glad it was helpful Julianna 😊
Grateful
Thank you !!!
You're welcome! 😊
Thank you for a great video. By the way what colour paint is that you are using around the switch ?
Glad you found the video helpful. I think the paint was Crown Soft Linen, vinyl matt.
Another great tutorial Aubs! What do you use for getting those really sharp corners? I tend to use a flat lining fitch but would be open to other suggestions. 😘
I use the Aubrey wiggle, works ok most of the time 😊
😂😂
thanks its helpful
Glad it helped 😊
When I finish painting and cleaned the brush I wrap it tightly in some paper and then the bristles keep straight and don’t splay out when you next use it.
Helpful. thank you:)
elastic band half inch from the brush head, keeps it as good as new, then wrap it up
Oh my goodness. I am returning 2 rolls of tape tomorrow. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I cut in over 150 feet in two rooms, including a darker accent wall using this method. Looked like a pro had done it.
That is brilliant news, so glad all went well for you 😊
Two screws to undo on light switch then you can paint underneath the plate screw back when dry and why wipe paint off the brush and mess up kettle when you can just load brush pat each side on inside of kettle then paint
Great videos, I really need to know how to decorate better.
Glad you are finding the video`s helpful and good luck with your future decorating projects Count Cliff 😊
Back in the mid 80s I went to tech for my painting and decorating curse every Tuesday and Thursday I remember doing this to learn how to do straight lines. I think about 1986
He does remind me of the typical tech college teacher. I did welding for one year and the teacher a Welsh guy would actually push your head (with mask on) closer to the weld. "Get in there!"
What’s the trick to paint corners where walls meet ceilings. Always found that tricky! Thanks
I would suggest using decorators caulk for this. I have not yet done a video on this but will do in the future.
Hi.Before painting can i use dawn dish soap and water to clean the walls? If not what can i use to clean before painting? Thanks
Yes, a dash of dish soap in warm water will be fine. If there are any really greasy or dirty areas then you could try sugar soap which is available in DIY and hardware stores.
Do you have a video to show how to paint where the wall meets the ceiling please, as I couldn’t find it ? @Aubrey’s Absolute Decorating 🙏🏼
Hi Jackie, sorry but I don't have a separate video on cutting in along the ceiling line. The method is the same as I show here when painting along the horizontal lines. I hope all goes well with the decorating 😊
thank you
You're welcome Joan 😊
Can you show me another close up video of you pasting wallpaper? I'd like to see what motion you are doing it in thanks.
Why don’t you use the angle brush?
Parts of this video gave me epilepsy, but it's the best I've seen on how to paint a straight line.
What brush is that PLEASE
Hi, I am using a Purdy brush. They are very popular with professional painters and decorators. The are worth paying the extra.
Do you prefer flat brushes over angled sash?
Yes I do but I know many people prefer the angled brushes. For people new to decorating it may be a good idea to try both to see which one is preferable.
@@AubreysAbsoluteDecorating yes I have been thinking of trying the flat brush as I have always used the angled but I some ways I can see the flat being better in some ways
I'm painting my 6 panel doors now (lying flat and thinking if trying a flat for that, especially for the long flat runs
Far better to partially unscrew the light switch or socket and paint behind it. Screw it back when paint is dry. Much neater job that way.
Put an elastic band half way down the brush, straight line is then easy peasy, tricky jobs always use a good quality masking tape
What a lovely man 😊
You are so kind 😊
i trimmed my 2 inch brush to take the splay away .
6:35 plate looks like it's blinking lol
As he says, buy a quality brush. Take your time, don't rush and, like anything, the more you do it, the better you get.
Leave it to the British for painting and decorating 🍯
what are those fat hog pure bristles like compared to hamilton perfection's
I remember the first brushes I bought back in the 70`s when I was at college, 2 shiny new Hamilton Perfections. I have stuck with the Hamiltons for oil based and like many, have tried other types along the way. Some types of the fat hogs are mixed filament and not pure bristle. Looking at decorators forums the reviews are ok but most are sticking with their preferred brushes.
@@AubreysAbsoluteDecorating i only use hamilton perfections pure bristle for near enough everything
Ooh arrr !!!
Paul McCartney changed careers I see.
Is it me of does this look like Paul McCartney?
Great video though. Thanks

Scotty Kilmer of paint?
You look like Paul McCartney.
Hi mate, try to bring nice and professional camera to help people watch clearly.
Please reply to my comments.
Thank you
Just use Frog Tape - much easier
Purdey brushes and trade paint. Go cheap equals crap finish
It's not a nice straight line
@@tonygreen7843 Bearing in mind he's talking as he does the job so not giving it his full attention, it seems a pretty good effort - and he could always go back and refine it. I doubt you can walk and chew gum at the same time.
No, that's not what cutting is.
People, please stop with the painting thing.
Time to stop saying so so much!!!
