What to expect from the Camino Portuguese: A Documentary

    In the video I say I would talk about a time we almost didn't find an Albergue - this was in Pontevedra, a point where the 3 paths of the Camino Portuguese meet up and it becomes really busy just before you his Santiago. We planned to camp so didn't call ahead, then decided later in the hike we wanted a comfy bed, so decided to try our luck and go into town. We got turned away from two places, then the 3rd place the lady pulled some strings and found us a bed in the back. Lesson learned: Call ahead!

    I can really recommend the 3 day trip from Santiago to Fisterra. Best way to finish off the Camino, watching the sunset into the ocean by the Fisterra lighthouse.

    I did the Portugues (Litoral > Central > Spiritual) in September. The only place I had a problem finding a bed was Almenteira because it had only one albergue with few beds and it's privately run so it accepts reservations. I had no problems getting a bed elsewhere because I always stayed at municipal albergues which don't allow reservations and I was usually one of the first to arrive.

      Hey, we were covering between 20 and 30km every day, so it depends on your fitness level and what you can do. We also took 2 rest days within these 15 days, so that we could enjoy the places we were passing through as well. So we took 13 hiking days to complete this Camino. This worked for us, as we didn't get any injuries or blisters and we felt great every day.

      We loved Galicia! Sorry we didn't cover enough in this video for you - our drone broke so we weren't able to film it as much as Portugal. Compared to the Camino Frances in Spain, the Camino Portuguese is hopeless. Not enough Abergues, albergues not sign posted or anywhere near the Camino. If I hadnt had the number of a taxi, I am convinced that I would have been seriously ill trying to find the albergue. The infrastructure is totally inadequate. Don't bother.

      @wgl2 Před rokem +1

      @@SojournWithUs I have had only negative experiences with drones, seeing them unexpectedly invading spaces that were once natural, tranquil, or awe inspiring. while I can understand the interest from a camera/film hobbyist point of view, they are incredibly disruptive to any scenic place for basically everyone except the drone operator. i am not even touching on what they invoke outside this disruption - war, surveillance, the grip of tech, etc.

    • @SojournWithUs
      @SojournWithUs  Před rokem +2

      @@wgl2 Yeah I hear you. There's an increased number of "No Drone Zones" popping up, and we're definitely on board with it for some of the reasons you mentioned. There is definitely a downside to recreational drone usage, including the disruption of wildlife. When we use our little DJI mini, we do so away from people, because we know how we would feel if we hiked up a mountain for peace, only to be hearing an annoying buzzing sound. We also only fly for under 10 minutes as to minimize our impact; we try to be responsible and respect the No-fly zones. We hope that other drone-users are flying responsibly, but that's not always the case, so we are 100% on board with increase of no-fly zones, especially in nationalprovincial parks.
