  • First flight without door and window, really liked it and didn't have a lot of wind. Plane is a Preceptor Super Pup, a tube and fabric kit plane built really well and strong. It has a Great Plains VW 2180 70hp 4 stroke motor that is easy to work on and really dependable. Plane is super easy to fly. Just flying around the patch over Trenton, S.C. and Edgefield County Airport 6J6, coolest grass fields around!

Is the Super Pup built stronger than the N3 Pup? Or is the only difference in the engine size? I'm asking because I'm thinking of putting a full VW motor in my J3 Kitten ultralight (and registering it), but I'm concerned the airframe and wings might not be strong enough to safely handle the extra weight, speed, and power. What do you think?

For those reading the comments here... this is “not” an ultralight. It’s too heavy, too fast, and simply falls outside FAR part 103. It’s also correctly N-numbered. This is an experimental amateur built. It must be flown by someone with at least a sport pilot license or greater. And someone with a tailwheel endorsement.

My solo flight in 1980 at 16 years old was in a 1946 Globe Swift with a fuel injected Lycoming 180. When did the tailwheel endorsement come about?

you don't need license for this Super Pup plane you flying in?

a Pup version is an Ultralight, which would require no license. This is a Super Pup with a larger engine and weight and requires a minimum of a Sport Pilot's license. I don't have this plane anymore but it definitely needed some more horsepower, a well built plane wih great characteristics and easy to fly and get in and out of.

Fire Bolt I thought this plane need license. But man out west in Fort Worth by Texas motor speedway, it’s a perfect destination to fly N3. I’m deaf and I wonder if it wil limit my disability

@@jasonjacobs2095 www.deafpilots.org/questions/ wow! I never thought about it til now! Looked it up and your in business. The sound on this video is a nice rumble of a VW 2180 motor cruising throught the air at about 70 knots. If you crank it up you can definitely feel the vibration. We fly powered paragliders now near Townville, S.C. at Tokeena Air Park really need to put up some video's, good luck in persuing your dream!
