    This is about my experience figuring out storytelling. I find it difficult looking at a lot of my old work but it’s what got me to where I am.
    I don’t believe there is any single “correct” way to tell stories, but I’ve noticed a few patterns that lace through the work of many of the best artists out there and this is my best attempt at understanding that and sharing it with you.

      In Indian culture Stories are used by Grandparents to pass on information, ideas, morals to children. it's so subtly genius. The kids do not have to be forced to learn through textbooks but rather they would keenly listen to every words of their parants. I remember all the restless children around the house would turn into a class of silent and highly keen students. goodold days......miss my grandparants

    3 *TIPS* to great storytelling:
    *1. AVOID* filler words. “Like, um, yea, so, I guess”
    *2.* Give the *MAIN* points of the story. Not every detail.
    *3.* Show *EMOTION* and sound effects.

      Flint Try to speak about something you find passionate about. There are certain areas in your stories that you can emphasize in tone, sound, and expressive face moments and hand gestures. “I would RATHER go to a crappy place than experience HORRIBLE airport service.” Imagine yourself speaking this story and emphasizing the certain words like rather, crappy, experience, horrible, and etc.

    @johnespino886 Pƙed 5 lety +162

    To learn how to make stories is also how you reinforce your concept of yourself, and the world that you live in. For someone who also grew up being called "intense" and would need a "chill pill" or that "you don't have to think about everything as a problem waiting to be solved", I could very much relate to the call of discovering a story-the story-only to find out that it's not definite until at least, when you die.
    That said, it's actually quite good for you that you put yourself out there (I mean, here on CZcams) all those years ago in pursuit of learning how to make video content. It gives you a good benchmark of where you are now, and reminds you how different or alike you were from the beginning to where you are now. It's like reading a page from a journal (if you journal, even very intermittently), only its published online.
    Thank you for being intentional, and striving to be more intentional. We need more of that in our saturated world. 🍃

    I am a documentary film graduate and started a CZcams channel a few months ago. I'm not uploading documentaries, but educational videos on mindfulness/self improvement. I was curious of what you were gonna tell in this video and what I would learn from it. But I think it had a great influence... I saw my documentary work and my youtube videos as something completely different... but for some reason after watching this video I feel like I know better how to implement the things I've learned from making films into making my youtube videos. I specifically resonated with your point about 'treat your audience as your most intelligent friend'. I *love* getting my audience to think about something after watching my documentaries. Making educational videos now, I kinda lost that. Thank you for reminding me of this.

    I think it's wonderful that you've held onto these old videos of yourself. I know I'm a sentimentalist at heart but I really believe there is an incredible amount of value in having the ability to reflect on old creative projects. There is, of course, the more obvious benefits in seeing where you came from and thinking about how you would improve them, but these projects also give you a window to your past self. They allow you the opportunity to remember the drive, passion, and curiosity you brought to your first creative pursuits which I have found never fails to invigorate me in my current projects. I make a point in saving the first paper I ever wrote in my field. It's grandiose introduction paired with awkward, choppy sentences make me laugh and cringe in equal amounts. More importantly, I remember the joy I had in writing it which reminds me however often I question it, past me knew what she was doing.

So, I am very energetic and intense in some things and topics. And “it throughs me nuts” that people told me “I should chill out” because I can’t . But some people don’t think so much about it and you need to respect it but it is difficult. Watching people who think similar and make videos like this is interesting. Okay so the clips of your very first video and hearing you say you had no idea what to expect from your channel and that you didnt know how to use a camera BUT you were here to *learn* = heartwarming. I absolutely adore that you were ready to learn and willing to throw yourself out there. Look how far you've come and how talented you've become. That's rad.

    I adore how you made this video. The structure was so fascinating but also so touching with what you said and showed. I think it is so easy to throw around quotes (remembering instagram pics a few years ago XD) but yours where absolutely perfect and so open! So thanks for this openness, this art and work

    i''ve seen a couple of your videos but this one really hit home for me! i'm a musician and my way of telling stories is through song and sounds, i feel you on how this process is something that is ongoing and there's always more to expand upon and dig deeper into. Anyways, you're awesome dude! Stay intense homie!!

    Watching videos of myself talking about photography or looking at old work always makes me so happy in the fact that I have come so far. I think a major inspiration should be yourself & that the only person you should ever compare yourself to is your past self. It's cringey but plain awesome bc think about how far you can go from here.

    You are so good at the art of story telling and teaching what you have learned over your whole 21 years on this earth ! Amazing...
    Someone mentioned a podcast...I think that's a great idea! I know you love the video aspect, but this way you can pump out lessons even quicker... for us older folks (I am 60) that wished they learned these lessons earlier in their lives.. I believe you are going to go real far. Thank you so much!
