- This is a slightly different zipper installation technique that I thought I'd try using one piece for the outer fabric, and one for the lining. In this video, I'll give you two more options for the zipper installation using two different sizes.

I do like the one with the binding if I had to make a bag that way. But I much prefer your original bag when I am sewing. I personally have no need for all the extra work. Thank you for sharing. I learn so much from you. 😊

Totally agree with you again Christine! Your tabs are the best looking and easier way to insert. Cannot see any reason for this method except for pockets. Thank you again for taking the time to test different methods. You did, most certainly, improve the look of the original insertion. Looking forward to your next project.

That was genius coming up with the interfacing, but it does look rather fiddly like you say, I think I would rather cut the fabric apart and and use the "tried and true" tab method to make this bag. Thank you so much for showng us all these alternatives. You rock!!
I do something similar. I don't interface with iron on, but sew on. Then, if needed, I either use washable school glue or sticky tape to hold it in place if needed -- which is rare. Typically it folds back just fine and after a bit of ironing stays on the back.

I agree with you. I prefer zipper tabs on both sides of the zipper . But i like the tabs to be without raw edges, like the ones you put in this project.

Although you came up with a brilliant solution with the facings, i still prefer the original way you do them. It might be nice to do one of the other methods if you are attaching the pouch to the outside of a larger bag. Might still be allot though. Whichever way, I love seeing these different method you come up with. Thank you!

I've been making zip bags for some time but i must say i don't like this style at all, the zip shortens too much making the opening too small, I'm glad you tried it so i don't have to lol
That's what I'm here for Lee. To test things out for you. I agree though, the opening is too small😁
I like the idea of hiding it in the lining.
But when I make a tote or zipper pocket, I use a piece of the same fabric instead of interfacing. I do it exactly the same way a traditional zipper pocket or bag would be done. Then fold it in, add the zipper to the lining of the zipper and then stitch it to the outer fabric. I learned that one from Qting Craft Studio.

I think that the best method would depend on the type of fabric used. The insert methods gives the option of positioning the zip towards the front of the bag which would have the advantage of allowing rings to be placed closer to the top of the bag for a handle and thus makes the zip more of a feature. If I buy fancy Italian zips($$) or one that has a special zipper pull it would show more. I like the options for variety in this simple bag. I have to add that I have had trouble using the double stick tape. I hasn't been sticky enough to hold the zip firmly for sewing. Not sure if the tape I bought was old stock or the brand I could get here in California. Getting the plastic strip to come off the side of the tape is fiddly for me and takes too much time. I was wondering why you prefer to box the corners by cutting out a square in the initial fabric layout. Why do you prefer that to not cutting out the square, sewing the seams, then folding the sides on the bottom to a triangle, sewing the triangle, and then cut it?
Hi Carmela. I actually don't prefer to cut out corners first, but do that for viewers as sometimes it's easier for beginners. For all my production sewing, I fold and sew the corners at the machine😀
The box corners need to be cut in 3D view. The tapered edges cut at 90*degrees, otherwise the corners will flop and won't be straight '-)

I’m sticking to your way or the butler method. The zip opening using these two methods is too small and it’s too time consuming…..IMO. Well done you. And thanks.

I think these methods make a more restrictive opening. When I reach into my purse I want to be able to see what I'm digging for and use both hands if necessary.
I'm not sure that explains my dislike very well. I'm getting old and the words aren't as easy to find as they used to be.

Suggestion: when you create the box corners, the side that is angled should have it's cut perpendicular to the cut angle, meaning that you should measure in not from the uncut side, but from the cut side, so that each cut is perpendicular to it's relative side. The reason, is for a professional - well made look. I think having the zipper edges showing, as in the first bag, is cheap, and unprofessional. If I'm going to pay the prices you charge, I don't want to see the zipper like that. Other people sell bags for the same amount or more, btw...I just expect to see good sewing practices, on things I spend my money on...AND the things I put my name on. -- especially, must look well made, and show I care what I put out. After all, my NAME is on it.
Totally agree with you. My name and reputation are important to me. I'll even refuse certain alterations jobs if people won't let me do a job I'll be proud of😁
