    I did not realize GO was owned by Swatch - that totally put my service concerns at ease here in Canada. I'd simply drive it up to Swatch Group in Toronto and call it a day. Agree with your comparisons to the Cellini or De Ville... I would take the GO over either every day. The fact this GO retails for only $1700 more than a steel Datejust 36 in Canada is mind blowing.

    You should add "Original" at the end of the video's title, as the brand's name is "Glashütte Original". There are currently around 10 watch brands located in the town of Glashütte. Some of which also have "Glashütte" in their brand name. Many people seem to get confused by this. Glashütte Original is the manufactory from Glashütte with the longest history. Even the historical A. Lange & Söhne became part of what is Glashütte Original today.

    Fine review, thank you. I think this is a beautiful watch. The quality is evident through pictures but handling it proves it beyond doubt. I actually like the font used for Glashutte and it's probably wise for them to leave it as it is as it has become a recognisable and integral part of the marque. I think the font is both elegant and strong. The hardship here is deciding on the dial colour best suited to the moonphase complication. I would have the watch in white with the power reserve but the blue I think for the moonphase. The movement is beautiful, could distract for hours.

    Glashütte Original stands on its own as a Manufacturer. Their watches are on par with Lange. A. Lange & Söhne watches are priced as they are due to the use of precious metals for their cases. That is until the ODYSSEUS. Of course the Lange brand has been established as a high cost luxury brand and can now use steel and hold pricing. People who suggest or state that G.O. quality is not up to Lange's is purely driven by the Veblen effect.

    • @riagra
      @riagra Před 4 lety +4

      AL&S was founded in 1845 by F.A. Lange and was nationalized post WWII into VEB Glashütter Uhrenfabrik (what remains Glashütte Original). Upon German reunification, it was reformed by Walter Lange and Günther Blümlein in 1990 and has since become one of the finest watch manufactures in the world. F.A. Lange single handedly transformed Glashütte from a poor village into a specialized watchmaking centre so it’s actually the other Glashütte brands that owe Lange a debt of gratitude i.e GO, Laco, Wempe, Stowa etc...

      @@riagra No, the current Lange is a totally new brand that just talks about history.
      Richemont simply bought the name and got FP Journe to setup the workshop. GO is the true Lange as it stays where it is from Lange formed with few other Glashutte brands. GO owes nothing from Lange cause GO IS THE LANGE.
      And Tim Mosso agrees with me
      czcams.com/video/o-zhZfotLZE/video.html

    • @riagra
      @riagra Před 4 lety

      Tippy Kaffu Lange (as we know it) was reformed in 1990 and launched their new collection in 1994 (Lange 1, Saxonia, 1815). In 2000, Richemont acquired Les Manufactures Horlogères SA (LMH) which owned JLC, IWC, and Lange. While you could argue that Lange is a “new” company after reforming some 40 years since the doors were shuttered under East German nationalization, it’s perhaps even more impressive that they have established themselves as one of the world’s best watch manufactures in such a short time.
      Your link to Tim’s video does not seem to further this discussion but check out this interview with Ben Clymer where he states “Lange is the finest serially produced watch in the world”

    • @tippykaffu4047
      @tippykaffu4047 Před 4 lety +1

      @@riagra Yes, I am not questioning the quality.
      I am talking about the 'heritage'. The original Lange is now part of GO.The thing about the new Lange is it is helped by many great watchmakers like Philippe Dufour, FP Journe, Felix Habring and many other great unknown watchmakers. The current Lange is just not the 'since 1845' Lange is what I am arguing about, not the quality.
      And perhaps, what you don't know is both GO and Lange are both equally capable in watchmaking. The only difference is the range and quality of finishing.
      And the other thing I could argue is how Nomos has their own amazing manufactured reliable movement really quickly and also praised by the legendary Dufour.
      My statement in the comment is "GO is the historical Lange," not "GO is better than Lange." And the reason GO has Original in the name is the reason I explained.

    Glashutte Original is an underrated brand, but the Panomatic series is widely derided as the "poor man's Lange 1." You cannot fairly call the Glashutte a "ripoff" or "homage" of the Lange 1, there are enough differences to avoid those labels, but you cannot deny the design similarities between the two. For a premium luxury watch at this price point, I'd want a design that is not so derivative of an earlier (and much more famous) watch by a competitor. Lange had this design about 15 years before Glashutte adopted it. For my money, I'd stick with pieces like the Glashutte Senator Sixties and others that have a design unique to the brand and that can be traced back decades as part of the brand's history.
