    Acura makes a bold move and kills off two of its best-selling nameplates, the TL and TSX. Hoping to blend the two sedans together, the all-new 2015 Acura TLX promises to offer the sporty driving dynamics of the TSX, with the interior space of the larger TL. All with a significant uptick in premium feel and technology within the cabin. Can one sedan take the place of two? Let's find out...

    Whoever leads product development at Acura needs to be fired. Hiding the exhaust tips because it looks environmentally friendly? And this is supposed to be a semi-premium sports sedan? Why not get rid of the wood trim too?

    • @Arcamea
      @Arcamea Před 10 lety +18

      Agreed, you can't be a supposed "sporty" sedan when the exhaust tips are hidden.

      Aaron Mah Hiding exhaust tips is only acceptable on cheap economy cars and hybrids, there's no excuse for doing it on a car like this other than pure stupidity. How I miss the Acura of yore!

    This car looks good. I'm glad Acura kept the sharp, squinty headlight appearance well into its jewel-eye design. With the continuation/ evolution of the sharp,sleek squinty headlight designs, there's no mistaking Acuras with any other cars on the road.

    I don't think we'll sometimes that acura/honda is lost I just think they are testing new routes to see where they want to be they always want to be "different" and some people love that fact. I love that the acura doesn't scream LOOK AT ME! It has a relaxed but outstanding attitude. Plus it's one of the cheaper luxury cars which it doesn't show.

    I just drove this car couple days ago and I'm coming from a TSX I really like how it drives, the seats are very comfy I just wish it had a turbo so It can be rated over 300hp or maybe 350hp I'm sure if Acura give us more hp we were gonna be more exited about this car but at the end of the day the TLX still at a good price especially for what your getting like LED headlights heater seats, push start, keyless entry, etc etc.

    I'm really shocked you think Acura "nailed" the design of this car. I can honestly admit this should be embarrassing for Acura to produce and rant a car so boring and bland as this one. This car looks like a downgrade. I mean look at the 3rd gen tl. It looks so much more new, and stylish and has a distinctive shape from your average sedan. Type-s had quad exhaust and brembo brakes. And the nerve Acura stresses a sport sedan and has no shown exhaust and ride height like an airplane. It has the same recycled engine from 10 years ago. And yet this simplistic car is going to be a game changer for Acura..I cant wait till their bad sales catch up with them then they realize how complete bullshit Acura management is. Ever since Acura/Honda has been centrally established now in the US, its gone completely downhill. PLEASE ACURA GET A NEW TEAM!

    • @sal1nger
      @sal1nger Před 10 lety +11

      i agree that the 3rd gen TL is a beauty (i used to own an 08 TL Type-S), but you're wrong about a few things here. this is the first direct injected V6 not only in acura's line up but also honda's. it has never been used before. also, acura sales are up because the new MDX and RDX are selling like hotcakes, which is why the company is focusing on their sedans now, since the 3rd gen TL used to be their top seller. the new TLX is getting unanimously rave reviews by the automotive press. they can't all be wrong. this car is going to sell very well.

    • @sal1nger
      @sal1nger Před 10 lety +1

      ***** i think it has to do with value compared with other cars that the RDX competes with, such as the X3, the Q5 and the GLK, which are quite a bit more expensive once you start adding options. the great thing about acura is how simple their packages are: there is a tech package and an advance package, and even with both added on this car undercuts its competitors by at least 5K, and that's with a 274hp engine with AWD. i've had a chance to sit in the RDX a few times and i was surprised by how much room and cargo capacity it has. i agree with you that i'd definitely pay a bit more and get a basic MDX over a loaded RDX, as you get much more car for your money, but i can see why there is room in acura's line up for both. also, the 2nd gen RDX was only released a year ago, so most of the tech should be the same as what you find in the MDX.

    It's interesting that Acura opted for a transmission made by someone else. I can't think of a time in Honda/Acura history when they've done that. This car looks nice, but I agree with your take on the interior. The design, materials, and graining of plastics look a notch below Audi and others. The latest Accord was a huge leap forward in interior quality compared to the previous generation, so a similar jump with the TLX would have made sense.

      ZF’s 9-speed is not really considered the best, even compared to their 6-speed or 8-speed transmissions. The main issue is the violent shifts and that the car lurches during acceleration, and the response is not the best.

    Just did a test drive, dealer let me drive all by myself (awesome) so I had the opportunity to beat it like a good horse. After owning a 2010 TL V6 SH-AWD for four years, it only makes sens to upgrade into a TLX, however, I must admit theres very good competition out there for the same range (IS350, wow) However, the TLX is more price competitve and I just love driving an Acura for some reason (understated luxury). So my conclusion is a sportier drive, more lightweight, very agile, punchy BUT definitely less of a beast... Hoping to see a Type-S resurface in 2-3 years and trade-in for that... But honestly, great car, and a great bang for the buck. PS: Copper black and red pearls looked awesome. Special Dealer Package (19 inch rims + aero kit) kinda sounded like a rip off considering I could get way nicer aftermarkets (and the aero really isnt that awesome)... also gotta say BIG BIG disapointment to lose the pipes... So... Anyways, good review all-around. Looking to read more comments from others on the ride. cheers

    2theRedline, THANK GOD somebody FINALLY mentioned the FUGLY hiding of the exhaust on this new Acura! From the front it looks premium but that back without any exhausts sticking out makes it look like a cheap econobox! WTH were they THINKING?! Acura at one time actually aspired to compete with BMW. Now a FREAKIN Hyundai looks sportier from the back end?! What a shame. I previously owned a 2006 TL with manual and that car was a BLAST to drive and had great handling for a Front driver and looked the part of a sport sedan. ;-)

    • @theredline
      @theredline  Před 10 lety +3

      You aren't comparing the right class of vehicle. The Sonata compares with the Accord. The TLX is a class above both vehicles. Just as Sofyan said in the review, this new Acura has a much more premium feel than the TSX and TL. The feeling of solidity and refinement is higher than your average family sedan. That being said, the Acura isn't up to the snuff of a Mercedes or BMW, but it also cost significantly less as well.

    • @monsterzx6rr85
      @monsterzx6rr85 Před 10 lety +2

      I understand I'm not comparing the right class, I'm just asking or a personal perspective as I'm stuck on wanting to buy one of these two vehicles, as they are similar in pricing.. I think there is more technology and standard features in the Sonata but more luxury status class in the Acura. That being said, I guess I answered by own question haha.

      If I were you, I would definetly choose the new Hyundai Sonata 2.0T. It has more advanced features than the base TLX, Its way roomier than the TLX, it looks better than the TLX, especially from the back where the TLX hides their exhaust and the Sonata shows a quad exhaust. The trunk is bigger in the Sonata, it also has more HP than the base TLX, The chassis in the Sonata is 76% stiffer than before, making it safer than the TLX and very capable on twisty roads. The Sonata 2.0t also has a huge panoramic sunroof, it also comes with heated & cooling front seats and rear heated seats with heated steering wheel, etc. To sum it all up, The new Sonata 2.0t is the most refined midsize in its class right now and that makes it a better car than a below average premium midsize that is this Acura TLX. If there are people out there that still believe that Acura are among the best luxury cars, then lets compare this TLX against its rival, The new Hyundai Genesis or maybe the RLX against the "soon to be redesign" EQUUS and lets all see how far has Acura fallen. Lets face it, Honda/Acura and even Toyota/Lexus have lost their ways and now are playing catch up with the rest.

    I'm a long time Honda fan and I have an 3d gen TL, but IMO Acura needs to fire their entire product development team. They're clearly incapable of both listening to customer feedback, and actually coming up with a concise design direction for a car. Yeah let's keep the universally hated chrome beak grille for another generation. Yeah, we're gonna make this car super sporty, but we're also gonna hide the exhausts and give it crappy tires, because eco-friendlines.
    My 6MT TL is way sportier than this as it has an actual sport suspension, Brembo brakes, a limited slip differential, and wider, lower profile tires. It has dual exhausts with actual exposed tips too. Gasp, I must be some sort of eco thug. Also, would it be too much to ask for you to give us an exterior paint palette consisting of more than black, grey and a handful of dull earth tones?

    Tech package is nice but read vehicle description carefully.....make sure it specifies V6. For the price point I got mine at the tech package was pretty well equipped. I might miss the heated steering wheel in the winter but that’s what gloves are for right?

      That's what will happen in the long run of the car, then how much will it cost to get replaced. They must have forgotten that humans need fluids to function and a large percentage of drinks have sugar in them.

      It probably won't need to be replaced but it will probably cost a nice chunk of change to take it to the shop for them to clean it up.

    I had a 2005 acura TL, I LOVED it. But they kept getting it wrong over and over and over after that. This current model shoulda been out 4 years ago. Its too late now. They should have never changed the 05 model so drastically. If its not broken, don't fix it. I wanted to love this car but for nearly the same price I bought a 2015 lexus is f sport.

    Nobody really likes the TLX and I'm a Chrysler man myself. But this is the First Acura I've ever just genuinely wanted. At first this car just looked like every other Acura to me. But over time it has grown on me honestly. I Really like the Push Botton Transmission, it's very Modern and High tech. Something different That's sure to surprise friends and family that ride in it. The paddle shifters look nice, they are tucked away and not jumping out at you like the ones on my charger. Overall this is a nice elegant little ride to me. Front wheel drive burnouts would be cool in this. I Like it.

    Acura, what happened to you? You're turning into the Lincoln of Japan. Boring, uninspired designs. The beak thing has gotta go, it's hideous. This car should be 2 inches wider and at least an inch lower. It's like driving a pair of your dad's khakis.
