It should also be noted that if not building the gnoblar launcher, you should have enough extra gnoblars for a full 20 man unit. So that pushes the box to 1,030 points. You'll need extra 25mm bases but those are pretty cheap to get.

It’s the perfect box for Warcry! There’s also Gnoblars coming with both Ogor foot units and if you don’t mind a little kitbash you could also take the two handed weapons and a head with a helmet from the Mournfang riders, slap them on a Glutton and boom you have an Irongut.
It’s kind of impossible to compare them imo. They share a book, but the Ogors are not really a mixed faction. The start collecting was great value, but only if you absolutely wanted BCR. If you wanted the regular foot ogors, it was absolutely garbage value. The vanguard box is just the opposite, it’s great if you want these ogors but awful if you want BCR. I think it’s a great box BECAUSE it’s focused on a faction, with a little bit of utility options in the cannon/mournfang. The start collecting was great because it was focused too. The only way to make a “bad” box imo would be to include all the different factions like the Gitz box and include everything together that has no synergy or place being together. A fire belly, a unit of yetees, leadbelchers and a gnoblar box for example.
It will be interesting to see how the new battletome pans out. The trend in 3rd edition seems to have been towards integration (for example skaven can now take battleline from each clan based on their heroes, nurgle mixed mortals and demons is far more viable than in 2nd, etc). I think the problem with ogors (hopefully until now) was that the gutbuster units were lousy AND beastclaw raiders had a great starter kit so it was hard to justify playing anything but beastclaw raiders. That said, I totally agree the sets push in very different directions. In my perfect world they would sell both. Would have been cool if they had kept it around as a Beastclaw Raiders bundle of some sort, even if they had to bump the price up a bit.
Despite popular belief - the ogre lead belcher is NOT where the name for the paint came from - dig deep in the past for the original dwarf siege gun with the same name
Very much a downgrade. That they include the 4 decorative Gnoblars in the miniature count is disgusting. EDIT: Ok you've convinced me that the new Vanguard box isn't awful but I still have problems with it.
Yeah the fact they list it as "4 gnoblars" in the description on their website which is confusing, I had to do a fair amount of digging to figure out the second two were tacked on the leadbelchers (the lookout gnoblars are at least more clearly tied to the gluttons in their rules).

@@BudgetWaaagh i got a box of gnoblars recently and got like 25 circle bases and 25 square ones. Guess they want people to base them themselves.
