Stroumboulas Mountain is located in north Crete, about 20 km west of Heraklion. It’s 758 m high hill that got it’s name thanks to its shape that from east side reminds a volcano. Under the Stroumboulas Mountain on the south there is Stroumboulas Plateau from where starts one of two paths that are leading to the peak of Stroumboulas Mountain. The other path starts from the north side of the mountain and is steeper. On Stroumboulas Plateau there is a church of Agios Georgios and about 200 m behind it starts the dirt road that after about 500 m ends and there begins the hiking path. To reach the peak takes about 45 minutes hiking. Along the way you can enjoy stunning views firstly of the southern landscape and later of the northern side, from the peak then there is a view allround. Church of Timios Stavros - Holy Cross is on the top of Stroumboulas Mountain and celebrates on 14th of September.
