  • Meteora, Thessaly Greece 4K
Meteora is a rock formation located in the regional unit of Trikala, in Thessaly, Greece. The area is home to one of the largest and most precipitously built complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, second largest in Greece only after Mount Athos.
Of the original twenty-four monasteries, only six are open to the public today. During our travel, we were able to explore two of these monasteries and capture footage of seven of them in total: Saint Nicholas of Badova, Saint Nicholas Anapausas, Great Meteoron, Varlaam, Rousanou, Holy Trinity, and Saint Stephen.
Meteora is located near the town of Kalabaka and the village of Kastraki, which are both popular touristic destinations.
The huge rock pillars were formed by weathering by water, wind, and extremes of temperature on the vertical faults 60 millions years ago.
Meteora was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988 because of the outstanding architecture and beauty of the complex, in addition to its religious and artistic significance.
The breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and the awe-inspiring monasteries perched atop the towering rock formations will leave you spellbound. Visiting Meteora is sure to be an unforgettable experience.
