    I find it humorous when Chris states that 5FPS is too slow a frame rate for sports and action. I spent my entire pro career shooting no faster than 5FPS on Canon EOS-1. To be able to get that rate out of a MF sensor is pretty amazing. No, it wouldn’t work for modern “spray and pray” shooters who are used to 10-15 FPS but it would certainly be doable.

    For large prints at A4 or US letter size 24 MP are by far enough. However more pixels are always welcomed.
    With a sharp lens more MP offer the ability of crop which is tremendously important to composition.

      24 megapixels typically gets you somewhere between a 4x6 and 8x10, though to comfortably handle an 8x10 crop, 50 megapixels is accessible. 100 megapixels can get you 16 inch range for a print.

      Razor2048 Correct. Also it is very important the sharpness of the lenses. Without a sharp lens the more MP are futile. This is very obvious with smartphones that offer 24 MP or even 40 MP with unavoidably mediocre lenses. For example in 2013 I bough the Nokia Lumia 1020 with 41 MP camera with Zeiss lens. The Zeiss lens isn't bad but can't deliver a very sharp 41 MP photo. However even today the photos from my Nokia Lumia 1020 are better than the photos of my iPhone X.

      A4 prints are pretty small, only really belonging in the sketchbook. You won't find much difference between this and an a7s @ 12mp on A4 with Sony's sharpest lenses. Large suggests at life size reproduction - bigger than A0. And really 2A0+ is when the benefits of the resolution of this will show and it'll come into its own.

      Because it is an E-ink display, it remains viewable even if there is no battery power. The problem is that it is a slow refresh compared to LCD. Much more viewable in bright light though. A really smart application for that tech, and a great feature on that camera (and XH1).

    Question for Jordan - With the full sensor readout for video on the GFX100, would the dynamic range be significantly better than smaller sensor cameras in the M4/3, APS-C, and full frame range? There has been much written about the GFX's ability to maintain DR and tonality in still images, would this translate to video as well?

I'll bet you could post images in any review from any camera, and nobody would be know the difference. At the sizes presented in reviews, it just doesn't make any difference. Can't really compare medium format to any full frame camera cos medium format blows 35 mm to shreds in image fidelity. This was true in the film days and it remains the same to day. A true comparison can only be made to other medium format cameras which we all know are far more expensive and with less features to boot. Well done Fujifilm, a great medium camera for $9995.

  • @funtrain23
    @funtrain23 Před 5 lety

    I think this is a hard uphill battle for Fuji.
    They've been selling the idea that APS-C is about as good as full frame, unless you're really particular. I don't believe that is true, but agree that APS-C can do a great job and lenses are cheaper. So now we are naturally going to ask, just how much better is this over full frame? The only substantial upside you mentioned was dynamic range; yeah, bigger sensor, more dynamic range, laws of physics at work. But is it so good that you no longer need to do exposure stacking for landscapes? Or, you can properly expose your model without blowing the highlights, nor needing to use flash? I don't think it's THAT good, at least not right now. So the question is, does it have the potential to be (say, make a A7S2 type camera using this sensor size, reduce resolution down to 50 megapixels but have unicorn level of dynamic range, per what I just wrote)?
    As for the image quality, of course it's good, but do you think Hassekbled X1D is better? I think so.... And, I don't think anyone interested in this product will care about film simulation modes?
    As for the lens, that's yet another challenge. Given the price of the system, as well as size and weight, people will expect the lens to be perfect. Perfect sharpness, color rendering bokeh balls, and buttery smooth background. However, the cost of the lens, a lot of it are going into the mere essentials to make them work, more optical elements, more powerful yet quiet motors, and etc....

    Fuji on the other hand seem to be listening intently to their clientele. I wouldn't hesitate to spend 10k on this promising peice of kit, where I would hesitate to spend a quarter of that on a Canon for the above mentioned reasons.

      The sensor readout technology has two optimization targets. Already on X-T3 - below ISO 800 it reads out the sensor optimized for maximum dynamic range, beginning at ISO 800 it optimizes for sensitivity (less noise). This results in the strange effect, that ISO 640 Noise on XT-3 is slightly higher, than ISO 800.

    I´m trying to find out how much is the DLA (Diffraction Limited Aperture) for this camera, as no one is talking about that. I believe that with a pixel pitch of 3.76um (even with a BSI sensor) the DLA will be considerably low, wich can reduce the full potential (and the image quality) of this sensor in lower aperture. What is your opinion about this, and also how the sensors tech will overcome the physics?
