I was fortunate enough to be at woodstock. When he played 90% of the people had already gone. Personally, I think he would've been something like Clapton and gone back to blues. His idol was Buddy Guy. In the early 90's Buddy's drummer lived in Tulsa and was a friend of mine. His name was George Nicely. I am saying was because he isn't with us anymore.

I personally do not like Robert Plants new band or it's music or his hack job on Led Zeppelin's Music with his fellow noise makers. I think he got too big for his own britches and is not respectful as a work that Led Zeppelin did, but that's my personal opinion.

@@FredBTs They are in thier 70s, so I guess Robert wants to slow down and Mello out. I noticed that he can't hit the high notes like he did when Led Zeppelin was at the top of thier game. There's no crime in liking Robert Plant's new music, but for me, it's too mello, not hard driving and doesn't move me except to turn him off.

goopah, I agree, being from the US I am not familiar with the interviewer but he did do a great job ! Just think of Jimmy Fallon doing a interview with Page , the HORROR ! Pull up the interview of Fallon trying to talk to Roger Waters, on The tonight show , so sad.
One of the things I love about musicians back-in-the-day, as they say, is their depth of intelligence and oft times class. If you listen to many from the epic 70s bands (Floyd, Zep, Queen, ELP, Rush, Genesis, King Crimson, etc.) you often hear very well thought-out analysis and insight, so much of which is lacking today.

Maybe but it is a totally different era now. Back then you had the really big top-tier bands and limited mediums on which to listen to them. So I think that they seemed more larger than life as opposed to today's bands which exist in a more watered-down environment.
Also I don't know if you noticed but every band you listed are British...except for Rush. Maybe the Brits are more well-spoken? A lot of younger Americans don't respect or appreciate the English language and don't sound as insightful as a result.

This is an incredible interview. Finally an interviewer who gets out of the way and let the the guest have his time answering. This is rare. Page is humble despite his towering talent and achievements. His artistry is inspiring.

Zoso is a sigil. Along with the other three symbols, one for each member. A sigil is used in magical workings, mostly black magic. You conjure demons by placing the sigil of the particular demon in front of you and hold the image in your mind and say the incantation; putting it simply and incompletely.
Ahhh, Jimmy Page. No other guitarist ever grabbed hold of my heart and soul like him. From the very first time I ever heard a Led Zeppelin song on the radio as a kid (I won't tell you how long ago *that* was) I was blown away by the power and expression of his playing. Jimmy Page, a genius on so many levels, and always my very favorite guitarist!!
Just another example of how the media does a different job in Europe as opposed to the US where I live. This is a fantastic interview with much respect given to Mr Page.
And the audience. I just tried to watch a similar interview, filmed in the USA but the audience kept whooping, clapping and cheering. It's not a sign of respect, it's just a bit weird.
Britain does it differently from continental Europe, very different style of people mate,.we are so different in mindset on almost every topic, our approach is different , they are far ruder and humourless east of the English Channel,🇬🇧👍🇺🇸

Back in the late 90's bizarrely I found myself sitting next to Jimmy on a grass bank backstage at WOMAD in the UK whilst watching Hossam Ramzi's Egyptian orchestra, just me and him with no one around us realising it was the great man for a good 20-30 mins. Had the pleasure of chatting to him about what would become the Page/Plant phase. He was slightly cagey but polite and friendly. Eventually people started to realise it was him and he could tell he was becoming an attraction so he shuffled off. 10 years later I bumped into Carman Jones ( Plant) whom I 'd got to know loosely , I had my 1 year old son in a baby sling around my front and I looked up to see Robert standing next to her. I joke with my son now that he's met Percy but was too young to know! Just need to bump into Jonesy and contact Bonzo with an Ouija board and it'd be a full set.. Life certainly can be pleasantly strange sometimes!

Well, he has been known to dabble in magic, mysticism, and the black arts. He bought a castle that once belonged to late satanist Aleister Crowley, and was a member of The Golden Dawn ,which was an occultic special interest group.
The magician himself sitting there chatting it up. One of the most interesting musicians of the era. The photo montage lives up to the hype. Everything JIMMY PAGE has a mystique.

He is just a really nice genuine guy with lots of stories. It just makes me smile to see this legend who I look up to so much be so down-to-earth and humble.
Hi. I had a small music shop. I used to sell cassettes. I'm 53 now. They were the most important famous people I met in my life. They were so normal, sincere and gentlemen. No complimants or anything. We talked for about 20-25 minutes and drank tea with Robert.After the concert was finished I tried to learn where do they would stay in.Next day I waited by the hotel.When Robert went out I kissed him and hugged him. He Asked me about the previous day's concert performance.I said time passed so fast like a dream. I said I came about 1000 km from my town to İstanbul for the concert he said please drive carrefully. I took LZ 3 LP and they signed the LP's.While I was waiting for Jimmy, he was shopping at a peddler who sold cheap imitation watches near the hotel street. I talked to him for 5-6 minutes. He was also gentleman, sincere like a normal person. I loved them more because they are the most important band of history (according to me) and so normal people like a teacher or friends. Sorry for my poor english. LZ is the most honorable band of history because when Bonzo died, they finished Led Zeppelin in the most popular period. They could find another drummer but they didn't choose this way because some things are more important than money. I am proud of myself to meet these priceless people I met.Thank god for creating Led Zeppelin and Ahmet Ertegün (the Turkih Manager who discovered them) Hope they will live long and happily I wrote this in about 30-40 minutes. Bye.

This is most likely the best interview I have ever seen in my life. Here we have the single most influential person in rock and roll history (my opinion of course). Telling the most complete history of his professional life. Very few artists get the opportunity to tell a front to back story of their lives. This is fantastic to say the least. We were blessed that Terry Reid had other things to do.
Jimmy Page is a genius! I must say “The Rain Song” is one of my favorites! The artistry of it is absolutely incredible!

I don't know about "best" guitarist ever and truth be told, find that label plain silly! Can't be defined!!! What I DO know is this: Jimmy Page is the TASTIEST guitar player ever! He innately knows how to design riffs(especially-his riffs are complete ear candy and just contain mountains of swagger, attitude, imagination, authority, groove, beauty....) and solos that always completely captivate and show an absolute command, solos that "tell a story", savage one minute, beautifully melodic the next! Listening to his production on Zep's albums.....MASTERFUL! A rainbow of sound drenching the air with exotic chords, notes, rhythms...GUITARCHITECTURE is the term used to describe Jimmy's production method, and it fits! I stand in AWE!

my uncle worshiped the ground that Page! walked on! he was my uncles favorite guitarist! hands down! and my uncle was THE Reason why i chose LED-ZEPPELIN-I(One) as my very first vinyl-record-album and as a six & a-half year old boy listening to that album for the very first time! it just simply blew my little! F'N! Mind!!!.. so much so i asked my uncle for more ZEPPELIN! and the next morning he gave me his old copy of LED-ZEPPELIN-II(Two) also on vinyl-record! as-well! and of course that one blew my F'N! Mind!! too! and so i've been proudly listening to LED-ZEPPELIN!!!.. Ever-Since-Then!!!.. and even though my uncle is no longer around in this life! some strange way ZEPPELIN's Music! keeps me in touch with my uncle every single time that i listen to them no matter what song it is by them!... so nogt only is ZEPPELIN great! awesome! F'N! Music! but it's able to keep me in touch with a dearly loved one who's been deceased for just over! #8-year's! now!... which as sad as it is for me! is also amazing! to me! as-well! at the same time!... Bravo to Jimmy Page. It is so good to hear Jimmy Page doing all these recent interviews and sharing his incredible story of his career through an official autobiography. Amazing little peak at this mysterious legend. I do hope that Jimmy does come back to Los Angeles very often and will do more book signing! Led Zeppelin the greatest Rock Band was truly Jimmy Pages' baby and you can recognize it by the twinkle in his eye whenever he speaks of it. So much groundbreaking done for music and the industry. Pretty much AOR FM Radio was because of them!
Thank you Jimmy Page for giving us so much. I will always love the burst Les Paul because of you!

Saw LZ in 1969. One thing that struck me, there was a organ on stage with the big long pipes like you would see in a church. JPJ used it just to play the beginning of "Your Time is Gonna Come". It was unforgettable.

Probably they want the people actually paying to be there (or got there free as fans) to feel even better about themselves that they got exclusive looks at the pics instead of someone not there seeing them on a video later.

He is the best riff maker not overall guitarist. Players like Roy Buchanan and Hendrix. Were far more impressive on the fret board. And more innovative in technique.
What page had was the ability to craft catchy but SIMPLE riffs that were memorable. Like on Communication breakdown and Whole lotta love.
The whole thing with page is simplistic but unforgettable riffs. Keith Richards had this same ability. An even more basic player. But then you hear riffs like on JUMPING JACK FLASH and START ME UP. And theyre unforgettable.

Jimmy page is my favourite rock guitarist of all time. I can honestly state that I do not like every led zep/yardbird’s songs but have always been in awe of his creativity and integrity along with huge talent. He has inspired countless guitarist to work hard and listen to and learn from the guitar greats from all genres. He is also a perfect advocate to speak with students from the creative arts.
I went a very very long way to go to Live AID (in Boulder, Co Wash DC/MD-& was on TV News (NBC 4 6:30 for that feat, going to get the 4 Tix- I called for final directions, then They must've called NBC 4 'cause a van was there, SAT DISH was up 'n ready as a local Pal & I pulled in- total surprise). I didn't care about that so after I had the 4 Tix to L.AID in hand "Sure, first things're first." They cut out my comment re "I came from Boulder Co for this." to clarify what mattered to Me (Really‽) ARE YOU KIDDING ME [GRRR] A LED ZEPPELIN REUNION‽ I WOULDN'T MISS THIS FOR THE WORLD [👉 🌎] & I repeated myself as I was on a mission. I'd driven MD>>NYC for A.R.M.S. at MSG & I know hindsight is worthless; you could ask the Friends who denied the pleasure & that RUSH of being in a part of that HORDE of Male-to-Male Devotion. AS YOU WATCH THE MSG PAGE SET, IT'S NOT THE FULL APPLAUSE TO JIMMY THAT MADE IT TO THE MIC ON STAGE; ADD, I'D SAY ANOTHER 45secs- 1:00 to whatever you can hear, read 'timed' & it was louder than L.AID, but for Jimmy not to be free to speak openly re phil's plans & indifference beyond his own life - I think it's a slander, defamation thing re BRITISH LAW & He wasn't free to speak clearly on the subject until what - a Decade ago? Jimmy Page: a living legend...
The first time I heard Led Zeppelin, I was 14 years old, and my friend played me his older brother's album. It was the fourth album and hearing Black Dog crank through those speakers changed my life. Best rock band ever! Jimmy, in my opinion is tied Jimi Hendrix for best guitarist of all time. Both are/were masters of their craft and did things never done before, profoundly influencing all subsequent guitarists. Mr. Page, however, created Led Zeppelin by picking Robert, Bonzo, and Jones to creat the band of all bands. Really wish Robert old agree to one last World tour. Jason deserves the opportunity to play for his dad, and Bonzo would expect his friend to do it.

You got it! and then Morrison and Jeff Beck and John Mayal and Alvin Lee and all the bar bands that played so well and never got known. God music was good then. I try and try but just cannot get into the groove of the music of today. Thank God for bluegrass music that is still liberated!
Well, he did look for them, but Zeppelin created themselves. They fed off each other, and none of them could have done it with the other three..
Who in the 20th century is more musically/commercially accomplished? He co-wrote most of the songs, produced all the albums, was the 2nd best rock guitarist of all time, and sold well in excess of 200 million albums. Literally no other person in the 20th century had that kind of musical impact, influence and success from that many aspects. Nobody.
I don't know if members of Led Zeppelin will get to see my comment or not, but if so I want to thank them for the 02 Celebration Day Concert. I bought it on Blue Ray. After the tragic death. After John Bonham died, it was a feeling of unfinished work. So, it was so good to see Led Zeppelin go out on a high note under thier own terms and not being forced to do so. You gave us all 50 years of top notch Rock n Roll. Today's so called Rock Music totally sucks. I can't stand what they are doing. It's noise.

I always read it as zofo. Lots of mystery around rock music in the 70s. Would occasionally see it appearing as painted on somebody's school haversack or graffiti on a wall. Couldn't happen today with the Internet. Then it was mystery now it would be disinformation.

Chris Hyde Well you can keep on wondering because that’s not the only meaning. Jimmy has said that he will not reveal the true meaning of the symbol. To this day nobody knows what it really means to him. Plant has said that Jimmy pulled him aside one day and said something along the lines of “I am going to tell you the meaning of my symbol once and you mustn’t tell anyone” and Robert says that he has since forgotten what jimmy told him and he won’t tell him anymore. Jimmy says that he won’t ever say what the real meaning of the symbol is, at least not for a very very long time.
I so love this man. He's so beautiful, sweet, and humble.
After Jimmy was talking about choosing Plant, you could tell he wanted to continue talking about him getting Jones and Bonham into the group, but the interviewer cut him off. Too bad. I would've really liked to here about that.
Mr. Page, such a class act. He looked pretty uncomfortable doing this but, I think, in his older years, he's figured out that people want a more inside look. Hence the book. He's always been a master at keeping his audience at arms length, so to speak, and 50 years later he can garner a whole concert hall of people just to here him talk! It is refreshing, in this day and age, he doesn't use his fame as a political platform. It's all about the music!

I think listening to Mr Page speak is just as brilliant as his music. He is an all around master, very interesting man.
Awesome watch. Zeppelin is part of music history, and being a teenager when they were in their prime was a privilege few understand. We would argue about Judas Priest being better than Sabbath, Van Halen being better than Boston, but when Zeppelin was mentioned, there was no band close enough to even compare them to. The greatest bands all worshiped these guys, and knew that the level of talent they had could never be recreated......... nor will it ever be. Like Jimmy said.... Devine Intervention.

I have grown to respect the hell out of Page, but there are many big bands from that era that actually think the opposite and think they were hacks. Perhaps it was Jealousy, but these are the facts and they are undisputed and verifiable.

Something that Jimmy touched on or indirectly stated a few times during the course of the interview, and especially towards the end, was that Led Zeppelin's totality was greater than the sum of its parts. What a masterpiece of rock immortality they were and remain!
Not taking away anything from the Stones, but Jimmy is a far more interesting and witty interviewee than Keith Richards, who these days is just a caricature of an image. Jimmy exudes authenticity. Kind of like Mark Knopfler, just aging gracefully.

+John Barry Whoa there! I have to strongly disagree. Jimmy is my hero on guitar (I play guitar) but Keith Richards is one very interesting guy. He doesn't speak quite as well as Jimmy does but there isn't much bullshit or artifice in what he says when he realizes that an interviewer is serious. He's an exceedingly down to earth and honest guy and he seems to have no penchant for blowing his own horn.
Of course, Keith Richards image is one of a drug war survivor, but he's also the straight shooter in the band. He's got a certain realist sort of sincere morality that belies his image.

It is just neat to see how BRILLIANT Mr Page is...... this is real enlightening, and has driven me to explore more or the Led Zeppelin catalog........ seeing more now, why I was so drawn to them........

Well, many people talk about how great Jimmy Page is, for a multitude of reasons. Listening to Whole Lotta Love today, loud, I came to the conclusion that this is the greatest rock song in rock history. It has everything. Totally groundbreaking in terms of style and content. It heralded in a new era in rock music. Lately, I've been watching the DVD Celebration Day. My estimation of him as a guitarist, already very positive, has soared. His soloing is about what guitar solos should be about - the song. There is a looseness, an edginess in his playing style that is far more effective in expressing feelings and emotions than any of the note-perfect, catalogue-of-super-fast-lick playing guitarists that have emerged since the days of Led Zeppelin.
Love to hear him speak!! LOVE YOU JIMMY!!

I was introduced to Led Zeppelin by a friend on a road trip to the pacific ocean back in 1972. I remember it was on an 8 track. We listened to that album non stop to and from the Pacific. I later went on to see them live in the Seattle Kingdome 1977.
if i ever get the chance to use a time machine, i'm going back in time to experience 65--80 so i can see Page in his prime.
Throughout the music of Zeppelin I've often thought that maybe Rob was the genius or JPJ was or Bonzo or Jimmy and now I realise that it was all of them. Thanks for posting....
First time I saw Jimmy Page was in Neil Christian's Crusaders in Barnet (UK), I remember that in between songs he practised Hall of the Mountain King!

Thing that I think is amazing about jimmy page is his level of skill on electric and acoustic guitar there is no drop off usually a person excels on one over the other but not jimmy page

I'm watching this in the time of Corona virus. With so much time on my hands, one of the few pleasures available is listening to Jimmy Page talking about his brilliant career.
The moderator is sharp in keeping the narrative moving nicely. Touches personal and musical and stylistic high points throughout. Just brilliant. Jimmy page really delved into the whole nuts&bolts of the LED ZEPPELIN creative side.

On a quick not: Most people don't realize hope much music influences our society. This was real music made by very talented master craftsmen. A four man band which played in complete harmony. I'm only 41 and clearly the music that spanned that era was soulful and full of emotion and life. Today's music shows us where we are as a society. BROKEN.

Some people say Jimmy sold his soul to the devil to play guitar like a god. I just think it's a god-given talent. Look at Pèle, one of football's greatest players. Pèle didn't sell his soul to the devil to play football that well. He just practiced for endless hours every day. Jimmy did the same. Just because someone is a god at something, it doesn't mean that they sold their soul to the devil to be that great.
I think the legend is that Zeppelin - namely Robert, Jimmy & Bonzo - sold their respective souls for vast mainstream success. It's implied that the talent was already there

I'm glad the interviewer asked about the repeated chord in Good Times, Bad Times. On first listen, I liked it, a lot. And I felt that this would be an album of substance. I subsequently soured on their self-worship/self-hatred, but I've never had that sensation so quickly and throughly since.

He couldn’t carry Hendrix’s guitar case
Hendrix, SRV, Clapton, Walsh, EVH, etc. are all the greatest of greats and Page is right there at the top. Sometimes Page was the greatest, sometimes others. However, Page wrote, arranged, produced and played so yeah one of the best if not the best ever.
This interview is really worth watching, I'm personally glad that we have Jimmy to speak about these years and elucidate on so much relating to some of the most interesting points and questions. One of the best 'sit down' format interviews I've seen with Jimmy Page in decades. Thanks.

Unbelievable making Jimmy turn around to view the pictures on a screen instead of using a monitor put in front of him, how could they be so thoughtless, I wonder if they put the a/c on for Jimmy, I seen him wiping his forehead a few times.
There is an audience that they're letting see the pictures. I do feel the chairs could have been arranged better so he didn't have to turn round each time.
