I remember the day Bonzo died, i was 19, living in N. Orleans, and it came over
The radio. I was in complete shock. And then a few weeks later it was announced that Jason was going to be the next drummer. And then next
It was announced that they had decided to retire instead, and leave the
Body of work as a memorial to John. About four weeks or so later, the beginning of june that yr, on the classic rock station, B-97, they played
Led Zeppelin A to Z, starting at 5 pm
Friday. And then Sunday A.M they aired a BBC Interview with the band AND Jason. they were asked the ? Of
Why they had decided to retire and
Where. Robert answered and said that
The four of them got together at their
Rehearsal studio in London with a Bottle of Scotch and proceeded to get
Drunk and reminisce about cry. And during that time the decision was made to retire. And i remember that everyone, the public, that jason was the reason for the breakup. But Robert
Was adamant that was not the case. And everyone of them seconded that
Sentiment. And was how Jason started his tribute band with him on the drums. And i watched the Kennedy Center Honors, with his band
Playing Stairway to Heaven, with Ann Wilson of Heart on Vocals. Emotional

If you watched this in its entirety, you're obviously a Zeppelin fan. Four great musicians growing, forming, and peaking as a unit. Rarely do you find a band where all members are playing to their equals. With that being said, WE would not have had Zeppelin for as long as we have if it wasn't for Peter Grant. The usual cut was 33% of the gross for the managers. Grant was one of the first to realize that it was the band that HE worked FOR not the other way around. Twenty percent was the cut Grant charged Led Zeppelin. That percentage also covered the overhead costs as well as his salary. But it was Grant that rented the venues, printed the tickets and provided the merch. The band's money would own the concessioners for that night. He didn't just rent MSG he was the one that got paid for the parking fees. Everything that was made, 80% went BACK to the band. That's unheard of!! Groups like Grand Funk Railroad, Ted Nugent, Foghat, etc....all got royally screwed by their management and record companies. NOT Led Zeppelin. What I find heartwarming is know that the Bohnam Family still receives John's share as if John himself was still alive.
How comforting it must be to have total trust in your manager, where you are free to focus on YOUR work. When Peter Grants had the "boys" sign here and initial there, it was the BEST deal they were getting.

I don't remember how old I was when I first heard any of their songs but when I was like 18 stair way to heaven if not number one on the billboard chart it was close to it!!! You could tell when it came on the radio because every car in my home town was blaring it!!! I was thinking to myself that they sung other songs that were just as good!!!

At the age of 10 in 1969 I bought Zeps first album and the rest was history. I had every album they made. I still have a mint condition unopened album of their first album. Bonham helped inspire me to become a drummer and now at age 63 I'm still drumming and rocking out to LZ. I'll always be a Led Head. FYI, it's Jon Bonham not John.
