- Jimmy Page is one of music’s greatest guitarists, innovators and legends-Rolling Stone called him “one of rock’s most important and influential guitar players, writers, and producers” and ranked him number nine on its list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time. He talks about his life and career as the groundbreaking guitarist for one of rock’s most iconic bands in a rare interview with Jeff Koons, widely regarded as one of the most important, influential and controversial artists of the postwar era.
His new book, Jimmy Page, the first ever by a member of Led Zeppelin, is his official autobiography, a photographic essay he personally created to tell his story for the very first time.

I literally came across Mr. Page on a street in London in February. He was all alone. Looking in a furniture window. I tapped his shoulder and said "thank you for all the joy and happiness you've provided me" and walked off. Over my shoulder I heard "hold on". I turned around and he said to me "No. Thank you." Then I walked off.
Terry..
Thank you for this
I can say that they (Led Zep)....really saved my life
On several occasions....Im so grateful
WOW! Half your luck!!
Two words for that story: Outstanding!
This is the most absolute proper way to go about it cheers to you
I wonder why he changed his mind to say something? Remember- Jimmy's a shy person. So humble, maybe he didn't want to risk saying something wrong?
Its 2023 and we still have Jimmy. So thankful to have lived when I lived.
Me to , I agree
He’s such an amazing man. I agree 100 percent. That I lived when he did. I wish I would have been a bit older and really watched them in concerts. During their time. I was a little late. But I learned more about them through music mags. That’s what was amazing 12:44am
Now 2024! I wish he could live into his hundreds!
@@user-hs5qo1pm2xsame here! By the time I became a Zep fan, they had just released “Physical Graffitti”, and lost opportunity to see them live!
And Robert Plant
People can debate which guitarist is the greatest: Jimmy, Jimi, Eric, etc. But when you combine Jimmy's playing, his studio work and the hundreds of songs he played on, his work with the Yardbirds, his song writing contributions, his skills as a producer and recording engineer, his visionary direction as the architect of Led Zeppelin's career path, and his continuing role as the caretaker of their legacy.......it puts Jimmy among the very top of the most important figures in the history of modern music. There are probably only a small handful of people who ever had a bigger impact on modern music....maybe just one or two. We won't see anyone like him again.
Yes. He created amazing riffs that will go down forever in the history of rock music.

You'll never, EVER hear anything like him again. I'm sure Zeppelin will always be on the radio for future generations to hear the way music was really meant to be, but I'm so glad I lived in the time he and Led Zeppelin were walking on earth.

Such beautiful hair jimmy has!
Jimmy becomes quite chatty and charming as he relaxes and warms to his subject. Quite an accomplished man and a giant in his field.
One of my longtime lifelong favorite creative genius, to be sure!
Jimmy Page is one of the greatest guitarist who can only improvise sounds and different chord structures when he played with Robert Plant, John Bonham and John Paul Jones live with Led Zeppelin. He probably played differently every night with passion, imagination and the sounds that he plays is so unexpected. After listening to those recordings from their BBC Sessions to other live performances, it seems he wanted and instinctively played amazingly with his guitar solos, riffs and other chords coming from classical music composers. It was his touch of embedding on his guitar solos. So clever! Being a producer, guitarist and being a part of Led Zeppelin was so incredible! For those Led Zepp fans, and other music lovers who listen to their music - it will be a treat if you listen to their live performance recordings. Every time they play - there are a lot of improvisations, mutations when they play their songs. No one ever does that except Led Zeppelin - they are the only band that does that!
They're not the only band who does that lol you probably haven't watched Queen concerts. Queen didn't just improvise a lot, they frequently did medleys of multiple songs in their live performances. But aside from that, I agree with you. I've watched Led Zeppelin at Danmark TV 1969 and Royal Albert Hall 1970, they're awesome.
Jimmy is the only guitarist that every single song had a different guitar hook. No other can say that
🙏🎧🙏

so love this band, and Jimmy Page just carries himself with such class and intelligence. Not even a shred of arrogance...and given what he has achieved, that speaks volumes as to his character. Jimmy, you deserve an interviewer with intellect. Koons isn't fit to replace your guitar strings. (And you've been on my bucket list since I was a teenage girl!)
Not surprised Koons' creativity was sparked by Zep more than any painter. Page emanates an ineffable force, an understated but kinetic coolness that allowed so many young people to be inspired directly by his musical genius/rythmic energy--and incidentally too, as a presence upon which they could project their own dreams and desires, no matter the medium.

I idolized them. I wore that damn black t-shirt I picked up at their concert for years! Wish I still had it. What a band. Thanks Jimmy for doing the interview, and I also liked the guy doing the interview, he seemed blown away to be on stage with Jimmy Page.
Sounds like we went to many of the same concerts. We are so lucky to have had the experience of this music!
the interviewer is a fabulous visual artist, jeff koons
@@barbaraolson600 Sorry folks--but James Marshall Hendrix was even better!
I’m a Gilmour fan so Pink Floyd’s my band. But what guitarist alive can say Jimmy Paige isn’t a guitar god? Eddie is dead. So.
I knew an older woman who saw Led Zeppelin in Louisville KY at Freedom Hall. She said it was so crowded her feet didn't touch the ground all night + her BF had to hold her on his shoulders half the time. She said their hearing was shot for 2 days + it was the best concert she'd ever seen. This was the 90's after 3 decades of concert experiences.
What a brilliant man! He does look well and his memory is sharp!! Stay healthy and safe, Jimmy!!
What a graceful, artistic genius this man is. Absolutely shaped my younger years. I am a semi professional musician now, thanks to JP.
the fact that jimmy page is the greatest guitarist of all time isn’t really something you can debate, it’s just fact. people who argue otherwise are ignorant. plain and simple. his work speaks for itself.
I find his electric guitar playing sloppy, unmusical, and boring, although I liked some of his acoustic playing. He is WAY overrated, and a satanist.
@@pharmerdavid1432 if sloppy fits, sloppy sits. And just because someone is more interested into the weirder spiritual sides of life doesn’t directly mean they’re satanic. Don’t lie, are you Tipper Gore?
Jimi Hendrix is number one Cmon now
Personally, he’s my favorite guitarist ever but it’s still a matter of opinion. When people are at a certain level at guitar any of them could really be the best. Jimmy Page, Rory Gallagher, Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, SRV, and many others. It’s about whose style moves you the most
@@Oriolesfun Hendrix set such a unique, awesome standard during his brief, 4 years as a Rock superstar. Jimmy Page managed to survive, and therefore, create his own brand of unique musical expression. Two mind-blowing musicians, for sure!
Thank You Jimmy for picking up that guitar.........................i couldn't imagine this world without you or your music
This is the most amazing interview I have ever heard,! I've been listening to Led Zeppelin and Jimmy Page since 1976 when I was like nine years old and I had no idea that he was so talented as a young musician and played on all those famous albums! I appreciate him more than I ever had before. Thank you Jimmy for an amazing life and career! The other thing I never realized is Jimmy was the driving force behind Led Zeppelin and created what they became! Such an amazing person! This interview has taken my listening of Led Zeppelin to a whole new level! I need to buy a new Marantz amplifier! By the way Jimmy's memory is amazing when he's reflecting back on all these songs and situations from many years back. He is the genius behind Led Zeppelin! And I had no idea. I really appreciate this interview.
A funny story .. I met him through a musician friend who played with him on the Plant and Page tour . Two years later I’m in Sainsbury’s doing my food shopping and he’s in the aisle with a little basket . He had moved to my area and we ran into each other many times . At this point he’s maybe close to 70. It was hard to believe when I was talking to this intelligent , soft spoken man , the Jimmy page of the 70’s who was supposedly drug and sex crazed . What struck me the most about him was how intelligent he is and not full of himself . Very nice and down to earth . It was quite an experience
he is so humble after all of his achievements.love him
Yeah but he's right a lot of us learned how to feel by listening to Led Zep and Jimmy is the greatest guitarist ever. Love you Led Zep! Rock on guys!
I adore Jimmy and his music but please greatest guitarist ever?..your having a laugh surely..
andy owen It’s a subjective statement of appreciation, the superlative is just an expression of awe. zep brought a lot of happiness to people
LED Zeppelin we’re part o my youth in the 70s. It was a fantastic time to be a teen with all the great music around. LED Zeppelin were such a iconic talented band. Still listen to their music and love it.
In November of 1969, my Canadian band (Copperpenny) opened for Led Zep in Kitchener Ontario. Our group performed our first album live that night (RCA records) and then had front row seats to watch this GREAT band! My apologies for borrowing Jimmy's pick (which, during our last tune, I broke) but I think his career went on quite well anyway. The best rock band in history was in our home town and I'll always remember.
Where did they play??!
Wow!! What a great story
How cool a story is that ? Thanks for sharing history.
still waiting for that Copperpenny followup album..wtf?
Were Copperpenny a forerunner for Nickleback? It has a similar ring to it.
I loved this, but I'm a little sad. Jimmy tried to tell a story about how he acquired the dragon outfit - he even vocalized something like "can I tell you a story about it?" - but he got cut off and rerouted away. I wanna hear the story! Otherwise great interview, Mr Page is so incredibly entertaining - guitar in hand or not.
Yeah that really annoyed me, I wanted to hear about it
Real musicians reroute when it calls
He tasks n moves the same as he plays
The interviewer is really kind of lame. He's banal.
vixapphire 6:03 yeah yeah yeah
I can listen to Pagey play or speak all day long, and I do listen to his music every day!
The song does NOT remain the same.
Jimmy you are well spoken and gracious. We are blessed to have you. As you are blessed to have been able to have brought the love you have. What a time...
Jeff Koons is so full of himself; I wasn't interested in all his flowery interpretations/opinions of Jimmy's musical genius.I loved everything Jimmy had to say; he's well spoken and communicates incredibly well - so we know who he is and where the music came from within. Aside from Koons wasting so much time, this was a super fine interview.
All the years growing up with the “mystique “ of Jimmy. Turns out he’s just a super sweet, shy, and amazingly humble. I’m so proud that Zep was, is, and will be my all time favorite band. I can’t imagine my life without their music. It has had major influence throughout my life.
scott peitavino - I completely agree & find myself getting a Zep fix everyday ❣️🌟
Are you freakin' kidding? Page is "super sweet, shy, and amazingly humble?" Precisely how many bong hits did you take before you hacked that out? The guy spent the majority of his life being a mean, arrogant SOB.
Tonto Epstein you are dazed and confused. tonto epstein is the arrogant SOB.
....the clintons killed your brother
One of the best guitar players of all time....love any thing he has to say.
the best guitar player of all time
@@rememberingtruth Jimi Hendrix nr. 1
Brian may Jimmy page YES guitarist and Ed king Steve Gaines Gary Rossington and Allen Collins are my favorite guitarists
I'm amazed how humble he truly is! He is Music Deity!
Really enjoyed that. Jimmy is so articulate. And to think, those songs are in his head when they enter the studio.
I actually saw this very interview on Channel 25,WNYE-TV!
Seeing Jimmy Page onstage with Jeff Koons was,to me,
quite a religious experience! Awesome!!!
Listening to this man is such a humbling experience.
I have met him he's not only the greatest gifted guitarists of all time he is the greatest Innovator of all time. He's the most humble person.he let me hold his guitars therman etc! Peace Love and Light.,✌️❤️🎸
Fascinating. Completely fascinating. People who aren’t even a fraction as worthy of praise could take lessons in humility from this gem of a man. Great, great person and great, great interview.
Jimmy gets my vote for most huggable rock star ever.
DUDE! He's a person, talk to him like it! It's just awkward, we get it you like his music but just shut up instead of interrupting him and overwhelming him with complements and philosophical bs
Especially if your a 14 year old girl lol
He looks healthier and happier than he's been for years, bless him. His middle-years (1980s post-Zep) were a bit... uneven, but overall he's been incredibly lucky his whole life.
Well, yeah, he was doing heroin and what not. At the '83 ARMS concert he was quite out there, but still did a nice Chopin piece. Everyone was doing coke in the 80s.
He seems brighter and clearer than even ten years ago.
Yeah, he is looking healthy and cheerier. He had put on more weight a time ago (if you recall is face looking chubbier), but lost it about five years ago. For 70 yrs old he's looking pretty good.
***** uh huh, probably better than Keith Richards anyway, nothing against the latter. I like both. just saying...
***** he looks fantastic!
