- After waiting all last year, Nick and I finally made it here. This unit was donated and installed in the 2000's to Stewartsville.
Im unsure where it came from. I gotta give personal thanks to Alderman Byron (Whos running for mayor in town) for setting the unit off.
Enjoy!!!!!!
This particular unit is manually hit by the Alderman for tests and tornado warnings.

Normal Test time- First Monday at 10AM Weather permitting.
Location- Next to Highway 36 - Věda a technologie
Probably the most well preserved 500-SH out there (no rust, no chip paint loss no nothing) all it's original paint intact besides it being dry yellow
3:24 looks like the rotator has a couple problems
Belt become loose overtime
Yeah thats quite common with 500's
Awesome! That's a happy sounding siren!
You and Showmesirens should go film this unit sometime!!! It’s definitely worth it
These suckers keep getting rarer. Nice video
I know!!!! That’s why Nick and I recorded the unit. And Thank you!!!!
And I have never seen one yet
Nice to see a Federal Signal 500
I feel like this is one of Topeka’s old 500’s.
Great video!
Pretty sure those were all dual tone
Oh yeah, lol
I can’t think of much places that have/had single tone 500’s. There’s a couple in rural Minnesota, but that’s about it
I’m not really sure where it came from to be honest and Byron (the Alderman who set it off for us and sets it off normally) didn’t know either.
Awesome video! These things are so rare nowadays, and it’s great to see one in such excellent shape.
I know right!!!! It’s really well taken care of.
It was having rotation issues when the mount was bent so they straightened it up and it rotates much better ever since.
Ultra rare siren. Nice catch!
Glad to see a video of such a cool siren. thanks for uploading
Your so welcome!!!! It was worth the wait for the drill
I’ve seen this one a few times, I pass it when I go up to Iowa. I would have never known that it was single toned if I didn’t see this video.
Now that I listened to it in more detail it sounds like it as a single phase capacitor start/run motor driving it. The way it winds up sounds somewhat suspect, since it starts off at a moderate speed and jumps in speed just before peaking.
IMO that setup would be more than likely its due to having a delta-star starting system?
It's not single phase unless the motor's been replaced, 500 series sirens were only available in three phase according to Federal's documentation. Single phase likely wouldn't be able to handle the load of both the rotor and the rotator mechanism.
The tag says it is 3 phase
The 2000's... HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
*Siren has been linked in with Cameron, so it gets tested on the first Wednesday of the month*
“Federsl Signal”? I’ve never heard of that brand
Cool! So rare
Great video!
Thank you!!!!!
I love the single tone ones
Sounds a lot like an STH-10 and a Model 5/7
Whats the difference in this siren and 500AT and 500DHTT?
How come the power seemed to increase mid-way through windup
Beautiful!
It was even more amazing being there!!!!
I could see why, heh.
0:01 EAS Pager 📟 Tone
So, a 500at that sounds like an sd10, then one that sounds like a 2t22/3t22, now this one that sounds like a 2001, model 5 and sth-10.
Damn
Seems like the rotator is also wearing off
is it made of tin
I’m guessing that they are just controlling it with a light switch judging by that off cycle timing. Ran for 4m13s
It’s actually activated via a Key 🔑
Oh so a manual key switch. Smart idea so some kid can't just go up to a light switch and turn on the siren randomly.
ThatRandomguy02 yup!!!!
@@AmericanSirenProductions Maybe Cruz should hook 'em up with an AR timer at some point.
ThatRandomguy02 well, I work for TRAS and we are (Pending the City) gonna get them upgraded to current such as radio activation of this unit as well as a secondary unit we quoted them.
Hey are the single toned versions of the 500 rare just wandering.
Yes
Sounds like a rsh thunderbeam
SINGLE TONE!? 😱
Yup 😁
Rotating model five
I rhink this is from marshfield wi
10 port or 12 port?
I don't care if this comment has 1 year old of posting. It's 12 port
Jeez, very early drill
It used to be at 1:30 🕜 but they changed it to 10AM
It’s just a rotating Model 5 lmao
But the raspiness oh my christ
