I do not make any money from my videos I post on my CZcams channel.
Video taken on 3/4/14. Yearly test of the Chester County Emergency Warning siren system. This siren is tested every Severe Awareness Week. This siren is LLLOOUUDD as CCRRAAPP! This siren is the LOUDEST siren I ever heard! And it was COLD here around 25F° Well, I didn't have a weather radio nor my scanner with me to use for catching the EAS tones, but you can hear the someone's EAS radio going off before this siren blast. Sorry about the wind gusts heard in this video, it was so windy there and I didn't bring an umbrella.
Info about this siren: It was originally installed somewhere in York County, South Carolina in the mid 1980s. Somewhere in the 1990s, it was removed and replaced by a Federal Signal 2001-SRN-AC. Then this siren was sold to Chester County. It was refurbished by the technical school. It is currently controlled by the fire department for now. I know about this siren starting up in this video. The circuits were blowing up and resetting. The county will install a new radio box to it soon and it will get controlled by Chester County Emergency Management. I know about this siren's pitch changes. It has a single phase motor. Not exactly sure why this siren has pitch changes. The fire station sounds this siren every year.
This siren is located in Great Falls, South Carolina at Great falls fire department off of Chester Avenue.
Also, behind the fire department, there's a Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1000B Siren Graveyard. The county is not selling any of them, they are being refurbished.
Location of this siren: goo.gl/maps/cMw0j (Note about that placemark: I know about the placemark title saying "Thunderbolt 1000T". That map is an old one before my friend discovered that this siren is single toned and that map is not mine, it isn't being updated anytime soon. Reason why I linked it because it's the only map that this siren is marked in.)

"Refurbished"....
Sounds like a freakin' trainwreck to me...
lolololololololololol
Because, 1000 is high Pitched.
well leave it up to a bunch of high schoolers where the refurbishing project was probably run by a teacher who also had know idea how to fix one of these things.... he was probably a painter....
*no
Brendan Williamson they just painted it! They didn’t re make it.
"Refurbished." Yeah, right. If it were refurbished, it wouldn't sound like that!
I know right , what kind of start up is that , it sounds like the chopper motor is wavering
Refurbished means a new paint job
It's a refurbished single tone
@@Jooshcabob66 because it was really cold out on the day of this test
This siren does sound slightly sick, but it is still very healthy.
Rtrydf
Since this is from the Siren Graveyard, the tech school must have put the original motor in it without inspecting it. Could also be the collector rings.
I love that wail on this one!
Egad, that thing needs TLC. Makes the Silverstreet 1003 sound great in comparison. I like the unusual startup, though. Great video!
Lesson of the day, never let a technical school fix a siren.
sounds like a vacuum
🤣🤣🤣🤣
this siren is single tone that's why it sounds like a vacuum
Kumquat kookmju6yygfrc Trump fguhjuh IIRC. - / - - -
True
Or a dryer
refurbished meaning a new paint job and thats it

@@khcngmountha2999 ?
sounds like my microwave and starts up like one and gets lower pitched but its higher pitched xD
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I've wondered if Chester Co. was ever going to use our old sirens. I remember when these were being put up around town, here in Rock Hill. That was around 1983, two years before the Catawba Nuclear Project was commissioned. For tests, the sirens ran in alert mode, for three mins. For warnings, they were sounded in attack. The last time I heard a Thunderbolt in attack, was during a tornado warning in 1994. It was the same day an EF3 struck Lexington, SC. I remember when they were replaced, and what a difference it was. There is an older 2001 (the one with the narrower cone-shaped motor cover?) not far from my house. It's lower pitched than the newer ones, and I can clearly hear it from inside the house. Still, nothing like the old T-bolt system .
Very interesting
Do you recall which locations were dual tone and which were single tone?
@@Memerino-ly7yrI think all of Catawba NPP's thunderbolts were single tones.

Call me crazy but I actually really like the way this Thunderbolt sounds.
“Refurbished” ......
I don’t hear no *HI IM DAISEY!!!!!!”*
You can hear EAS tones in the beginning of this video.
sounds great
Also when the Emergency Alert stops I thought I heard sirens in the backround like a 2001 or something
Sounds like a mix of a federal signal 2001 and a thunderbolt
Hmm... Oh deer. That motor must be fixed as soon as possible!
Yeah. Which is weird because it was refurbished not too long ago.
That is mounted like 15 ft!
This siren sounds horrible. Says it is refurbished but Thunderbolt Sirens from 50 years ago that haven't had a even a paint job sounds better than this.
It's a 1000. A single tone model
Sorry late reply:
This siren has a few problems:
1. Bad brushes
2. Warbling pitch
3. Delayed rotator start up and blower shut off
4. Steadily dropping pitch
+Alex Vierzba ik it is single tone but it still sound like shit. not like a thunderbolt 1000 should. it is wavering a lot in the chopper sounds like.
Josh Mckinnley the rotator and blower are on a delay timer the agistat which delays the rotator and blower from shutting down when the chopper does, it lets the chopper coast for up to 30 seconds. instead it has a delayed start and a delayed shut down.
If you listen closely, you can hear a faint chugging sound, which sounds like either an A1 or early A2 blower, hinting that this siren was installed sometime in the 50's or early 60's
Uh, no. The description clearly says it was originally installed in the 80's, so that makes it a C-Series.
Screwed up Agastat? That's what I'm guessing because the siren starts sounding before it starts rotating.
it has no controller so it was manually set off so nothing wrong with the agastat
Oh. Ok
Siren starts at 0:51.
I would love it if My city refurbished a thunderbolt siren. Although we still have a 1000
These are a common site in Cincinnati, Ohio where I live along with the Federal SD-10, but a great number of them have been decommissioned and replaced by the ACA T-128 and the Federal 2001. Ironically the old sirens have notbeen taken down. They're just becoming eyesores like an abandoned old car left to rot away in a rural field.
T-128s are made by American Signal Corporation (ASC) not ACA.
Clorox Bleach oh.
its probably wavering to say that it is cold out here
Pitch issues.
MAJOR pitch issues.
Ikr
Louder than any dual tone Thunderbolt
you've heard from the same distance?
FS claimed that the 1000 is 127DB at 100 feet and the 1000t/1003 is 126DB at 100 feet.
Refurbished thunderbolt 1000? It don't look like one and it sounds like a dying cow.
The chopper reaches full speed before rotator turns on.
I live in the state above it!
This thing should get looked at because sirens are not supposed to Sound like vacuums.
When a Thunderbolt Consumes a 2001 siren
I wonder what it would sound like in the attack signal
If it was refurbished let me guess a 2001 replaced it
Ray Pavon If you mean this Thunderbolt was replaced before it was refurbished, yes. It was replaced with a 2001-SRN (as said in this video's description).
+TrainsAndSirens1 it looks like they thought they thought no one would tell the difference between the 2001 and the TBolt.
True. Older people because of the CD during the wars?
*CD Sirens
sounds like my prototype R1-2FS
Blimey, a blue blower box!
tornado sirens ruin the fun of a surprise tornado
looking to buy a 2 one for a back up for our fire hall . looking for the choper unit..

If I'm not wrong aren't single tone Thunderbolt's a model 2 chopper in a different housing?
all thunderbolts are basically model 2s.... with an air pipe rammed up its ass
! ObamaTookMyCat ! Lol that a beautiful representation XD
Siren start in 0:51
I think these sirens sound better when the tone is "Hi-Lo", instead of just, "one" tone.
Cdog inth'house only the Thunderbolt 1003 can do the high low signal.
Sounds like a 2001 when winding up
it pitch waivers just like the 2001 130 sirens do
That is a good
@@FedEx-754 no that’s bad
Yes I heard the EAS
Honestly, someone needs to get that blower timing right.
looks like the one at West Shore Services
The blower started up late
oh wowsers.... thats one healthy out door warning system.... is it bad if i cant even tell if the blower is working? i can hear a hum, one from the struggling rotator, and maybe the chopper motor>? lol
Nice single tone thunderbolt I actually like single tone Thunderbolts better than I like the dual tone Thunderbolts
the blower had a late start
Sounds nice, blower started a bit late.
Seems like it was just a rotation delay and no blower delay
@@BRISTOLFORCE2009 yes, there was blower delay. Listen closely.
It does not sound like a thunderbolt
It's single tone
Sounds like a cat with the runs to me

nice sound
There it is!! Where is the graveyard?!!?!?
Anyone hear the eas in the background in the beginning?
Yes
Yes
Yes
The video of the siren was a tornado drill
Yes
Siren Starts at 0:52
I think it’s really loud cuz mount is on a short pole.
"BTOLT IS THAT U?!"
Am I only hear at 0:02 US nuclear attack warning on the background (on very low volume)?
Thats a EAS not a nuke warning
In my opinion (or fact) tornado sirens can be like a fire alarm
for wildfires
They can be used for practically any sort of emergency.
Nuclear fallout, fires, medical emergencies, tornados, wildfires, etc.
Dude This Thing Compared to the alertor. The thunderbolt is a tiny toy 😂
A or C series. A or B
this honestly doesn't really sound like an actual Thunderbolt 1000
weird. usually a 2001 130
At the beginning it sounds like a drill
Is it still there
Yes
that is a lil sick
25°? That's NOT Cold. It gets down to -30° here in Minnesota
mn_sirens and I have to experience it XD
That siren is'nt refurbished is it
I can hear an EAS going off in the backround.
It is the siren head sound
@@chara9201no it’s not
@chara9201 that's not siren head, that's the Eas sound
Nice
I hear EAS
nice
Sounds much different than older thunderbolts
The thunderbolt 1000 is the oldest model...
@@Ikesandknifes Not necessarily, the 1000s were offered from 1952 all the way to discontinuation in 1990. This siren was made in the early 80s. Thus this could sound different from older ones simply because it's newer and has been refurbished.
@@Ikesandknifes yeah but since this is refurbished it probably is using a 4m blower. since most 1000s were ordered at earlier dates they came with 5m or 6m blowers which make the sound of the thunderbolt different. its also probably cause the motor is a bit sick on this thunderbolt.
Note:Its possible hear the ativaction tone in the start on the background what means that a real tornado its coming.
Those are SAME tones for the drill. it shows up as a Practice/Demo.
did anyone else heard emergency alert system at the beginning of this video?
refurbished my ass, that thing sounds very sick
ExtremeQuakeGaming Sorry, but I am correcting you, no offense, lol, *You're right sir.*
you beat me to it
Sounds like 2001 siren
Andy Ostwalt save the sirens!
Looks good but the chopper motor sound horrible
the paint on this went bye bye
Painting a siren but not doing anything else = refurbished. Wow.
Just to know: refurbished is painted recentely
Siren stats! 0:48
is a sound just like a blender or a machine robot
0:53 goes off
why was it toned that way
Ray Pavon It's Single Tone.
AH EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM 0:02
I love thunderbolt
The siren has some issues
I don't know why it's on a low poll at Fire station
I refuse to believe that is refurbished
The only thing they did to it is repaint it, nothing else was done on it
Oooooooooh a Snow White thunderbolt
25f isn't cold, lol, -30f is cold
Wow, it don't sound too good. I think the "refurbishment" was just a coat of paint.
I think you would do a better job.
@@gio11138 agreed
only the siren head was refurb'd
this doesn't sound like a thunderbolt at all, it sounds more like a 2001 130 siren
Nope, not at all, it sounds like a level 5 1000
@@BRISTOLFORCE2009 lol yes i know that now, this comment was from when i didn’t know much abt sirens 😅
Refurbished my ass.
That sounds like shit.
OMG Shut the f*** up!
