Chevrolet Corvette C7 vs C8 Practicality Test! *Is Mid Engine Less Useable?*

- 👋 Lets put these two American icons to the test! We love sportscars and all the performance related to them. But if you own a sportscar like a Corvette, practicality and use-ability is also important. The C7 Corvette has a huge trunk and is actually a hatch back. The C8 Corvette is mid engine and has a while V8 engine taking up whee the trunk used to be! However the C8 Corvette has a trunk behind the engine and a trunk up front. So let's see if a Corvette owner can go on a weekend golf trip and bring two golf bags with luggage in either Corvette model! We also try out some basics like ground clearance, 3 point turn, backing into a parking space and interior storage. We check out the C7 trunk space and see if two sets of golf clubs can fit in the bags. Same for the C8. Cool that the C8 Corvette can fit two golf bags in the trunk. C8 cold start also sounds pretty good! Same for the C7 cold start. Overall I am surprised that Chevy made the new mid engine Corvette just as practical as the C7. Very useable daily drivable sportscar!

Regarding interior storage , you overlooked the hidden storage compartment behind the C7 infotainment screen, which is not available in the C8. My night driving glasses reside there in my V7 during the day, readily accessible by a youch of the screen retraction button on the dash. Also a good hiding place, and relatively secure, for a carry gun should it be necessary to leave one in the car briefly, suvh as hoing in the post office.

Crazy times. I put a deposit on my C7 in August, 2013 and it arrived in October. It was $58K out the door. I think right now I could sell it for $58K...

Nice video! The C5 had the most trunk space of the last 4 generations. I could easily fit two golf bags, even in the convertible. The C6 convertible's trunk got smaller but still good. The C7 convertible trunk was smaller still. I could fit two golf bags, but they had to be the small "carry bags". Same goes for my C8. But the advantage of the C8 is after both golf bags fill the rear trunk, you still have the front trunk if you need it!
It’s pretty cool for golf bags to even fit in sportscars like this!

Great comparison Bros. One add for functionality I find important is security with storage. The C7 fails here with the exposed hatch. The storage in the C8 is hidden and more secure.
I could see that! There are a lot of vehicles with a window above the storage area, but you could cover that if needed!
The C7 offers a two section privacy shade which hides anything in the back from view, not shown in the video (replacements are readily available if missing, all the attaching hardware is in place from the factory). Also, the manual latch release is locked unless the key fob is in close proximity.
In the C8 I'm figuring someone can just click open your trunk or hood storage without a key- or do they need the key nearby to activate the trunk? Idk stupid question. Cool review Guys! 😎 ( No wonder Mike you almost got a C8)
You need the key nearby for it to work. If it’s left unlocked they might open. So there is good security 😅
Great practicality video. What about the sound level? Could I survive a cross-country drive from Ohio to Montana and back, without destroying my hearing or my back?
Honestly either car would be fine. The C8 has more comfortable seats overall. Definitely a step up in comfort and refinement. But the C7 is still plenty nice for long trips. I did an 11 hour trip from NY in my Gallardo and that was fine, so I don[t think a C7 would be a challenge lol
@@BrosFOURRSpeed One of my closest friends died last year and his wife would like me to buy his 2015 C7 Z06 with 7,000 miles.
I’ve driven Porsche’s since 1971, but when the C8 was released I began watching all the reviews and content and can no longer justify the price tag and puzzle of trimming out a new 911.
My friend’s 2015 is like and even smells like a brand new car. It would be a great way to remember him and own an incredible car for $50,000.

Both are pretty practical cars, what model years for both cars?
I believe it was a 14 and 21. Either way all C7 Corvettes are the same. All C8’s are the same

There is a keyfob slot in the steering wheel in the c7 vette and the head unit drops 007 style. These guys missed those

Not sure. But you can Google Corvette ground clearance and convert whatever measurement that pops up to cm

These are cars that people daily drive, so testing out the practicality of them is valid.
@BrosFOURRSpeed But as a whole... neither one of them is really "Practical" . it's tantamount to testing the Indy 500 race worthiness of a couple of mopeds. ;)
Well it's fun to show how practical a car like this can be. Lots of people drive these from the day to day and actually use them for normal things.
I am so conflicted on the practicality between these two. The C7 has much better trunk space and a familiar center shifter, but the visibility is poor and you have to worry about clearance a lot. The C8 has worse trunk space and an unfamiliar shifter, but you can adjust the front clearance for speed bumps/dips, and visibility issues are solved with a brilliant camera display on the rearview mirror. The C8 also has the ability to use the cameras as dashcams with some setup.
Yeah the C8 is very nice car with the cameras! Our video today going live is getting a 2022 C8 dropped off for the week! We have 7 videos coming with that car seeing what it's like to daily drive. Check them out as they go up! If you want a manual tho, the C7 is obviously the way to go
If the C7 has the performance data recorder (PDR) option, it can be used as a dandy dash cam.
If you take the wife out on a weekend trip and want to put the top down, definitely get the convertible. I've tested with the coupe, I was barely able to get both our luggage in front and back, but you can't put the top down because there is no space to put the top in the trunk if you have luggage. Having the convertible solves this issue. However you'll lose sight of that beautiful engine.
Yeah that is a great point. Personally I'd buy the convertible too. I love the rear window you can put down. And it's much more convenient to do the power top
What are those things hanging from the nose in front of the front wheels of the c7? It lowers the ground clearance even more 😢
Probably just an air dam. My Supra has a piece like that but they are flexible and if they hit the ground nothing happens
You forgot to mention the hidden storage behind the radio screen in the C7. I really miss that in my C8. No place to store my pistol.

some people mentioned a cubby on the rear of the corvette C7; can you confirm that? The C8 obviously lacks that.
Europe is getting the C8 corvette but the engine is gonna be slightly detuned.

You are among the few. I bought the car for its design and performance, which are top notch. Having owned multiple Vettes from the C4 through C8, this is easily the best. It's also the biggest head-turner. I didn't buy it for that reason, but now in it's fourth production year, the car is almost like a celebrity. When I stop for gas, I get approached. If I go into a shop or store, someone is walking around it or taking pictures of it when I come out. Then they want to ask a bunch of questions. It's taken some getting used to that didn't happen nearly as much with my other Corvettes.
Neither am I.... just screams "cheap poser car"
Next time, try to test practicality whitout the roof 😬, to see how much stuff you can storage 🧐
