- The Chevrolet Corvette has been an American sports car icon for over half a century. Historically the Corvette has always been one of the more affordable and usable sports cars on the road, and that appeal has helped make it one of the most popular performance cars in the world. If you've always dreamed of cruising down the highway in your very own Vette but worried it would break your bank account, the experts at Edmunds are here to help. Travis Langness and Elana Scherr take a closer look at two of the most recent Corvette variants to help you decide which one fits best in your budget and lifestyle.
The two Corvettes reviewed in this video are the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. Even though these two Corvettes are only a year apart, the differences are significant. Redesigned for 2020, the Corvette Stingray (often referred to as the Corvette C8) has a completely different look and feel from the 2019 Corvette Z06 (known as the C7). But the biggest difference between these two sports cars is the engine. While the 2019 Corvette followed the classic under-the-hood front-engine layout, Chevrolet decided it needed to move to a mid-engine layout to enhance the car's performance for 2020 and beyond. The new engine location - now behind the cabin - enhances the 2020 Corvette's performance but does limit the rear visibility.
Shoppers looking for high-performance sports cars have been flocking to the Chevy Corvette for decades. It's an American automotive institution that has aged like fine wine. Which Corvette is the right choice for you? We'll help you answer that question and more in our review of the 2019 and 2020 Chevrolet Corvette.

C8
c7z over a base c8. but it all depends on price
The 7 just looks so much better
I've owned a 1988 Z51 Corvette, a 1991 ZR-1 Corvette, went to Cadillac with a 2011 CTS-V, and am now back in Corvette with a 2016 Z06, 3LZ, convertible in Daytona Sunrise Orange Metallic. What a car. Thanks for the video!
Excellent video, narrated, filmed and edited by professional people! I currently own a 2019 C7 Z06 and I absolutely love it. I love the design, power, handling etc. I will always pick a Corvette over any other sport’s car. Porsche are good sport’s cars, but when I look at them, I must agree with Jeremy Clarkson (formally of Top Gear) when he said that Porsche designers have to be the laziest people in the world. There is one that I like, The GT3. To each their own. In the end Corvette will always have a special place in my heart. Chevy runs deep!
The C7Z isn’t quite as quick as a base C8? Is this guy insane? Def a driver thing
At the test track - with weather correction and ideal conditions - the Z51 C8 went from 0-60 mph faster and completed the quarter-mile faster. The trap speed for the Z06 was much higher so a 1/2-mile drag race would yield different results but it sure is harder to launch a Z06 and get it all right.
@@tlang001 the host is making this statement while driving on a TRACK, not on a quarter mile.
Agreed …..👍🏼
I own a 19 GS Heritage with a manual transmission and LOVE it on track and on the street.
The c8 has grown on new. But after test driving both. The c7z is more exciting and faster after 5sec. The only c8 I would consider would be the z06.
Great video! Well done!
Why thumbs down? Nice video.
I’m currently a c7 owner, so c7 my selection.
I have a C7 and would not trade up for C8
What are you talking about dude saying you’re in the slower car? The c7 z06 is way faster than a base c8 😆. Maybe for the first 5 seconds and then it’s over for the c8.
Good work guys! C7 is a must have classic especially w a 7MT. If you can also add a C8 to the garage, great. Just wait for the rumored C8Z06 with a flat-plane-crankshaft 32v DOHC 5.5l V8 screaming it's lungs out in an Italian-like crescendo @ 9,000 rpm. Oh and Buh-Bye Porsche, believe me you won't look back.
I agree about keeping the C7,but wait for the ZORA!!
For some odd reason the C7 market has gone thru the roof. C7Z's are now $80K to $100k, while you can buy a C8 @ MSRP if you place your order with the right dealer and wait about a year. My allocation is coming up soon. 2021 C8 1LT Z51 w/mag ride for $69k. Couldn't find a C7Z for anywhere near that price, and we are talking brand new fresh from the factory vs used. Funny thing is any review I've seen from a former C7 Z06 reviewer who bought a C8 says they much prefer the C8.
The reason is the C8 is extraordinarily ugly.
@@iowa61 LOL, yeah that's why there is such a demand for them that it takes over a year to get one because the waiting list is so long, and people are paying 30-40k over MSRP just to own one. Your opinion is extraordinarily asinine
@@kevinbreese5739 I think it's a beautiful car all around, more ferrari like whereas the c7 is an evolution from the 5 and 6 gen.
@@kevinbreese5739 I think it's a beautiful car all around, more ferrari like whereas the c7 is an evolution from the 5 and 6 gen.
@@iowa61 right, glad I am not the only one
Well you guys are off a little. The Z in the video is a lot more powerful and has a lot more torque than the C8. It’s also faster around a racetrack. The Z also feels faster all around, except on launch because the weight distribution of the C8 allows for better traction.
For the premium feeling you talked about when comparing both cars with Porsches, you talked about materials like Alcantara and how you don’t get that with corvettes, that’s also false. My 19Z’s interior is wrapped in it and carbon fiber. It just depends how much $ you’re willing to put into it. The options are available.
Did they mention the bending rims, the cylinder deactivation that blows engines,gm doesn't back there customers on bending rims hmmm, common thing hmmmm and yes I have owned a c5 a c7 grandsport and c7 zo6...love them but can't ignore.
Ummmm ….i have a C7 Z06 and i have driven a C8 more than once and the difference in power is very noticeable …..the C8 will jump off the line quicker due to lack of wheel spin that u get from the Z06 ……after that the Z06 eats it up ….and from a roll at any speed there is no comparison ….I’m waiting for the C8 Z06 ….the Z 51 C8 just is not a performance upgrade ….of course only my opinion …but i have driven both hard ….so if by quicker they mean the first 150 feet off the line i guess i would have to agree
given the market right now, c7z 650hp for $50k or so. while the c8 has a huge mark up outside of the dealership of $20k or more. i like the c8 style a lot, but the c7z (it has to be the z06) is a great choice to me for getting your moneys worth. regardless, youre driving a corvette.
While I agree. You won’t find a C7 Z for 50k anywhere.
@@raynavarra Yes, it's in the 70's range which is still an excellent buy considering the c 8 is going anywhere between 20-30 grand over sticker which is insane!
@@Ravaniscool or wait and get the c8 at MSRP
No the C7 Z06 is NOT as quick as a Base C8 0-60 but get the launch correct and the automatic version IS a hair quicker in the 1/4 mile as they can run right under 11 seconds bone stock wheras the C8 is right over 11 seconds...however line them up from a 60 roll and the C8 will see the C7's taillights
My C7 ZO6 eats regular C8’s up. Also the new C8 ZO6 can’t pull on me as I have much more torque. The C7 is really a front, mid engine.
Zo6 way better looking car by far
I haven't driven a sports car with automatic trans but manual c7 is the sheyat
Look at Carmax stepping like Motortrend 😂
Love my C8 killer car with good technology, not sure I can add anything…. Can’t loose with either car but if you want technology get the 8
C7

owns Vettes since 1966, a 64 Vert 365 HP, 79, 81, 93, 98, 07, and now a 14 Z51. What do about it. Trade up to Z06 and hold out for the C8 E Ray or Hot Rod the old 2014 Z51 with 9,000 miles??? The Car guy in me says Hot Rod the 14, its beautiful. But the road trip maniac in me days go Green and get the E-Ray with all weather tires for AWD fun year around. I know traction in a problem, the 07 Z06 would walk out it rear end at WOT until 45 mph. That was scary. This LT1 2014 will light em up at light. My wifes Volvo S60 T5 with Polestar and AWD can pull me for 20 feet or so !!!!!!!!! E Ray is looking better but the trade??? How should i have stashed away in my Go The Hell account, $50K and my 2014??
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE compare cars of similar prices. If price was no factor we'd all be driving 2M Ferraris or Lambos
C8 is ok but Corvette c7 is looking beter and i think the high package C7 2019 manuel is a collector car i just saying 🤘😎
Now is the worst time to buy a used C7. Year over year rise has been around 25% according to car gurus price trends, absolutely ridiculous for a used car. Wait till there are more C8s sitting on lots. You’d be an idiot to buy a C7 now unless you find a killer deal.
glad i bought 2 years ago
I bought 17 z06 3lz with z07 package for 80k. Am i an idiot? 😅
@@TanNguyen-vg9og “unless you find a killer deal”
@@TanNguyen-vg9og how many miles? Picked up the same but a 2016 for 73k.
@@dubba07 it has 25k miles on it. How about your?
That Z06 spec is pretty wet
C7 all the way…
that guy looks so tiny lol
5'9" and 210lbs? Wow, nobody has ever called me tiny before, thanks!
The "exotic looks!" The C8 is an engineering triumph and a design DISASTER. The ugliest GM car since the Aztek. The only Corvette in history to actually be called "ugly" by numerous automotive press. Lines and angles to nowhere. Minimal shape that looks like lines etched into a brick. A huge gaping mouth cut off with a giant meat cleaver.
Still the best all round car in the world but now an ugly one too.
Reminds of those ugly cars in 90s, gt 3000 smdh
I like the look of the c8
@@davidlepoidevin4239 No problem. You are certainly entitled to. But from an objective design standpoint, it is chaotic in the extreme. Lines and angles to nowhere. Colliding shapes and style lines. A massive, chopped off front, and a rear that literally looks like it was designed by a blind committee. It’s inconceivable this thing got approved. Frankly, I bet there were many alternatives you would have liked more.
Her voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard.
The z06 is not slower then c8 they both are 0 to 60 2.9 ish and the z06 is faster in the quarter mile. I would expect better info from car people, just sayin.
Only the c8 zo6 is faster than base c8. This one is not.My friend has a c8, and it pulls on c7 z06 even in roll races i witnessed myself!
